Accountability Ratings
Dripping Springs ISD received high marks on the Texas Education Agency (TEA) Academic Accountability Ratings for the 2009-10 school year.
The district, Dripping Springs High School, Rooster Springs Elementary and Walnut Springs Elementary were rated Exemplary. It is the first time
under the current accountability system that the high school and district have been Exemplary. Dripping Springs Middle School and Dripping
Springs Elementary are rated Recognized. In addition to TAKS passing rates, TEA also looks at a district’s completion rate and annual dropout rate
in determining an overall district rating. DSISD’s completion rate for the class of 2009 was 99% and its annual dropout rate for 2009 was 0%.
Dripping Springs High School On Newsweek’s List of Top US Schools
Newsweek magazine’s annual list of “America’s Best High Schools” once again included Dripping Springs High School. The list ranks US public
high schools according to a “Challenge Index”, which is based on a school’s total number of AP (Advanced Placement) or IB (International
Baccalaureate) tests taken in 2009 divided by the number of graduating seniors that year. Schools with an index number of at least 1.0 qualify for
the “best schools” designation. Dripping Springs High School has an index of 1.777 and is ranked 829. 127 Texas high schools made the list, and
of those, only 23 are Comprehensive (as opposed to Magnet or Charter) 4A schools like Dripping Springs.
Dripping Springs High School Named One of Area’s Top High Schools
Dripping Springs High School was named number 8 among central Texas high schools in terms of how well it is preparing students for success
after graduation. A study by Houston-based nonprofit Children at Risk based the rankings on 14 indicators, including four-year graduation rates,
participation in advanced coursework, performance on college entrance exams, commended scores on TAKS assessments, and attendance.
Tiger Band Class AAAA State Champion Marching Band
The Dripping Springs High School Tiger Band took top honors at the 2009 state marching contest. The Tiger Band competed against the 26 best
class AAAA bands in Texas at the Alamodome this past fall. Ten bands advanced to finals, including two other Area D bands, Hays High School
and Hendrickson High School. The state contest capped off a very successful marching season for the Tiger Band.
Dripping Springs High School Finishes in Top 10 in UIL Lone Star Cup Standings
Dripping Springs High School finished the 2009-2010 school year in a tie for 7th place among 4A schools in the UIL Texas Lone Star Cup
standings. Each year the UIL Lone Star Cup is awarded to one school in each UIL classification based on points accumulated in sports, academic
UIL competition, one act play, and state and area marching band.
Dripping Springs Students Qualify For Duke Talent Search
During the 2009-2010 school year, 235 students from DSISD qualified for the Duke University’s Talent identification Program. Duke established
the talent search in 1980 to identify bright students and to help them develop their abilities. To qualify, students in grades 4, 5, and 7 must have
scored at or above the 95th percentile on the verbal or mathematical sections of anationally-normed test, such as the TAKS. Thirteen DSMS 7th
graders qualified for the State Recognition from Duke TIP, scoring better than 50% of college-bound seniors who took the test. In addition, four of
these students qualified for Grand Recognition from Duke TIP, scoring better than 90% of the college bound seniors who took the same test.
