What is The Junior Fair Livestock Sale? Raising an animal as a livestock project is a valuable experience for any FFA or 4-H member. Projects are the foundation of these youth programs and teach new agricultural practices and sound business principles. Through projects, these young people gain the work experience necessary to acquire useful knowledge, skills, and attitudes. When you purchase an animal at the Junior Fair Livestock Sale, you are buying prize livestock raised by the Sandusky County FFA and 4-H members. Your purchase helps support the important educational programs of these two youth groups. It also brings you beef, pork, lamb, goat, turkey, chicken and rabbit for your dining pleasure. You can also support dairy and goat exhibitors by purchasing a gallon of cow’s milk or quart of goat’s milk. Each project is run like a business. Accurate records are kept listing production costs, labor and management practices. But raising these animals on a small scale can be expensive; often their costs are higher than commercial producers. At market price, it’s hard to break even. The Junior Fair Livestock Sale gives these young people a chance to show a profit for their hours of hard work. The success of the sale is up to you. You can help these FFA and 4-H members; and at the same time, buy quality meat at a reasonable price. How Can You Participate? New supporters must register with a clerk at the registration table at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the sale. You will be given a bidder number to be used during the sale for livestock purchases. The sale is conducted as an auction and animals will be sold to the highest bidder. After a successful bid, you will be identified by your buyer number and recognized by name by the announcer. All PREVIOUS supporters received a buyer card through the mail. Please verify the information on your buyer card - if all the information is correct you are ready to bid. However, if the information needs to be corrected, please let the clerks know at the registration table. This should be done at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the sale! This buyer card will need to be presented at the gate to enter the fairgrounds FREE of charge. • All buyers of the Sandusky County Junior Fair Livestock Sale MUST have a buyer number for bidding. • All animals will go to the base bidder (processor) for processing. If you wish to purchase the animal for home consumption, you will need to complete a Destination Change Form at the registration table immediately after the purchase of the animal. BUYERS MUST MAKE ARRANGEMENTS WITH A PROCESSOR PRIOR TO THE DAY OF THE SALE. • All splits will be considered equal (i.e. 50/50) unless you notify a clerk and complete a Buyer Split Form immediately following the purchase of the animal. THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF BUYERS PER ANIMAL SALE IS TEN (10). * Announcing will be limited to the top 4 Names of advertisers per animal sale (buyers over 4 will still be added to purchase), with the exception of the Sale of Champions. • The Minimum Bid Per Buyer Per Animal Sale Is Twenty Dollars ($20). You DO NOT have to be present to support or participate in the Junior Fair Livestock Sale. If you wish to support the sale,a Sale Committee Member will represent you and act on your behalf. You can either complete an Absentee Bid Form found online at www.sanduskycountyfair.com or contact: Add on Premiums are another way to support the Junior Fair Livestock Sale if you cannot be present or do not wish to ‘advertise’ during the sale. If you wish to support exhibitors through additional contributions (i.e. $20 towards multiple supporters), you can do so by adding on premiums after the sale by completing either an Absentee Bid Form or an Add-On Premium Sheet through the Junior Fair office. You will then be billed for only the amount you choose to add on to one or multiple exhibitors. BAKER BONNIGSON 419-547-7777 or THE JUNIOR FAIR OFFICE - 419-332-1972 METHODS OF PURCHASE Premium Bid — All livestock is sold by the head, NOT by the pound. When the bidding is complete the buyer has purchased the animal at the price called by the auctioneer. You have the option of purchasing for advertising or home consumption. The 4-H and FFA exhibitors will receive base market price plus your premium bid. There are several ways for individuals and businesses to purchase livestock and support the 4-H and FFA members. 1. PURCHASE FOR ADVERTISING ONLY. You or your authorized representative purchase an animal and release it to be sold at market price to the processor. You or your business are then billed for the premium price. For example: you bid $100.00 for an animal, you will be billed $100.00. So $100.00 is the tax-deductible cost to you or your business. YOU DO NOT TAKE POSSESSION OF THE ANIMAL. 2. PURCHASE FOR HOME CONSUMPTION. You or your authorized representative purchase an animal for your freezer. Buyers purchasing for home consumption should make prior arrangements with a processor of their choice. You pay the premium price (i.e. $100) plus the base market price (i.e. $140). Therefore, you will be billed $240.00 for your purchase. 3. MULTIPLE BUYERS OF AN ANIMAL. Purchases by more than 1 buyer will be considered an even split (i.e. 50/50). There is a maximum of 10 splits/buyers per animal sale. The Lead Buyer on a split animal sale will be responsible for any outstanding auction statements after 30 days. For the purpose of time only 4 names will be announced. All others will still be added towards the total purchase. Processing your Prize Meat There are meat processing plants in the area that will process your animal for your freezer or for your business. Buyers need to make arrangements with the processor prior to the sale. The hauler will need to check with the committee in charge of the barn to get a release slip for the animal. Area meat processors are: Hasselbach Meats, Inc. 4637 Oak Harbor Road • Fremont, Ohio 419-332-1747 Bellevue Meats 616 Southwest • Bellevue, Ohio 419-483-7884 A list of possible animals being sold by junior fair exhibitors is included in this packet. A complete sale list will be available the day of the sale at the registration table. If you have any questions, please contact the Junior Fair office at 419-332-1972. After The SALE Buyers are encouraged to pay the day of the sale in the Junior Fair Office. Cash, checks or money orders will be accepted. Please make checks payable to: Sandusky County Jr. Fair Livestock Sale. Sale Invoices will be available approximately 30 minutes after the end of each sale. Buyers are encouraged to pick up and review their invoices for purchases made at each sale. All unpaid bills will be mailed Monday following the sale. Terms of the sale are net/10. All bills must be paid in full prior to Thursday, September 8, 2016. After 30 days, outstanding accounts will be assessed interest at 2% per month. AFTER 60 DAYS, ALL OUTSTANDING BILLS WILL BE TURNED IN FOR COLLECTION. *EXHIBITORS WILL NOT RECEIVE YOUR SPONSORSHIP UNTIL YOUR BILL IS PAID. Back to the Farm Beef And dairy beef Feeder Sale Back to the farm purchases must be paid for immediately following the sale in the Junior Fair Office. You will receive an invoice and release forms. No livestock will be released without a release form. Livestock may be removed any time after 8:00 PM on Sunday, August 28th. No Livestock will be permitted to be removed prior to this time.
