2 Torque Measuring Tools
This type of tool can also be used in a
production environment to apply torque and
check the tightness of fasteners
What types are there?
Torque measuring tools usually have a scale,
either a dial or digital readout. They can
be a screwdriver or torque wrench design.
They enable the operator to read directly from
the scale as the torque is applied
The torque can be measured as it is applied
(Track mode) or the maximum torque
value can be recorded (Peak mode)
The first of the three tests is the marking test.
The marking test is used to verify the torque
of a previously tightened fastener. This is
done by making a clear mark on the surface
of the nut, bolt or screw and continuing the
mark onto the surface being clamped. This
acts as a reference point. The fastener may
then be untightend and then retightened until
the marks are again in line. The torque
value can then be read from the torque
tool display
The second of the tests is the just move
test. Again this test is used to determine the
torque setting of a previously tightened
fastener. Using a torque measuring tool,
a tightening torque is applied to the fastener
until movement is just seen or felt. This
torque is deemed to be a good indication of
the original torque applied to the fastener
The third and last test is the break loose test.
The break loose test is another method of
checking the torque applied to a previously
tightened fastener. Torque is applied in the
direction that loosens the fastener, at the
point the fastener breaks loose, the torque is
recorded. This value is an indication of the
torque at which the fastener was originally
tightened

What are the three types of
test that utilise torque
measuring tools?
All models are capable of measuring torque in
either Peak or Track modes. Ideal for
establishing torque tightening specifications
Robust construction utilising stainless steel,
glass filled nylons and anodised aluminium
making this tool suitable for most industrial
environments
These tools are designed and manufactured to
exceed the requirements of ISO 6789:2003

What are they used for?
There are two main groups of torque applying
tool - tools that are preset and those that are
adjustable by the user
Torque applying tools are used to apply a
set torque to a fastener. The tool will slip,
break or click to signal to the operator
when the set torque is reached
The angle measurement function is ideal for
use in high precision manufacturing and
quality control
What types are there?
Preset tool are ideal in environments that require
the same torque to be applied to a fastener time
after time. These types of tool are tamper proof
so are ideal for use by staff who are not
highly skilled
A visual, acoustic and sensory signal confirms
the preset torque or angle has been achieved
The second type of applying tool has a visible scale
that allow the user to adjust the tools to their
desired torque setting. This tool is ideal for use
in areas where a range of different torque settings
need to be applied
The memory can store up to 2000 values,
detailing date, time, measured value, nominal
value units and angle
User modes available include, Track, Peak and
Preset, including multiple units of measurement
What is slipping technology?
RS232 communication with PC software
At the heart of the Torqueleader range is slipping
technology. When the preset torque is reached
the tool slips free eliminating the possibility of
over tightening fasteners. This technology offers
the user reliable, accurate and repeatable torque
control, by removing the responsibility from the
operator and placing it in the hands of a reliable,
repeatable mechanism

powered torque tester for small hand and
power tools, ideal for calibration laboratories

The ET-cal microprocessor controlled torque
analysers for calibrating and presetting
medium to large torque wrenches (up to
3150 N.m)
Features a large display and built in
transducer
User modes include, Peak, First Peak and
Final Peak. Multiple units of measure
include N.m, cN.m, lbf.ft and lbf.in
A detachable display enables the user to
position the screen for better visibility when
calibrating longer torque wrenches
Non-impact Power tool testing feature,
including four low pass filter selections and
three rundown adaptors to allow simulation of
‘actual’ joints
User modes include Track or Peak with
multiple units of measurement
Robust design, can be mounted in horizontal
and vertical planes. Wrenches can be calibrated
in both clockwise and anti clockwise directions
RS232 interface provided to download
readings for easy SPC analysis
Modular design offers a variety of options to
