Nansulate(R) was applied via airless sprayer to the underside of
the home’s roof deck (underside of roof in attic area, and ceiling
of rooms where attic could not be reached) on January 14th
and 15th of 2008. Application was the recommended coverage
of three coats (each coat applied at 3-5 wet mils (72-127
microns), for an overall dry film thickness of approximately 7 mils
(177.8 microns, 0.007 inch).
Amount Used: 25 gallons of Nansulate(R) HomeProtect Clear
Coat.
Size of living area: 2772 S.F. (257.53 sq. meters)
RESULTS:
Customer achieved a 42% reduction in energy use (see
charts on next page) and increased his home’s thermal
efficiency, and reduced his carbon emissions related to
energy use.
Customer quote:
“The study would be based on the savings of electric useage
during the cooling season, which would be April thur Sept.
We have the previous owner's electric bills for the last 2 1/2
years and compared to my KWH useage we did about 40% better.
The neat thing about having hard numbers is that I was able to
take out the figures for the avg. electric useage during the
winter months (gas heat) and come up with the savings for just
the AC compressor, which if I did the math right is more like a
savings of 57%.”

The first device is an air conditioned / heated massaging mattress
cover, which can be used for bed ridden patients, controlling the
temperature of the mattress, providing comfort and preventing bed
sores. It is scheduled for clinical testing in November 2008 and
offshoots of this successful technology are now destined to target
the general consumer market.
Edward Moore, President, describes the projects further,
“Nansulate has been specified into the main cooling and heating
system for this design. Nansulate added to the mattress cover
system was found to reduce cooling temperature at a rate of
1.8 degrees per minute, as compared to the foam insulation alone
which reduced temperature at a rate of 1.1 degrees per minute.
All test were performed under identical conditions cooling one
gallon of fluid.
By speeding up the cooling process, substantial energy savings
were achieved. In addition, Nansulate prevented sweating during
the cooling process and also prevents growth of unwanted
substances on the surface of the system.

The same carefully researched cooling and heating system
specifying NANSULATE will be incorporated into a new machine
to form x-ray invisible casts with perfectly even pressure over the
entire area of a broken limb. The casts can be worn while
swimming or bathing and re-formed, again with perfectly even
pressure, when swelling reduces. Thanks to Nansulate the time to
form a perfectly even pressure cast will be approximately three
minutes.
An additional portable machine specifying Nansulate in the unique
heating and cooling system, is to heat and or cool with adjustable
massage any area of the body for sports medicine and general
physiotherapy needs. This machine will free up the doctor or
technician to perform other tasks. The portability of the battery
operated machine is due in large part to the energy savings
realized with Nansulate insulating coatings.”

Attention: Chad Smith
“all research & development matters”
Dear Mr. Smith
I would like to thank you for your help and guidance specifically relating to your NANSULATE
insulating paint.
We are a research and development laboratory established since 1972.
In our main business, we work with many corporations such as Lockheed Martin, Sikorsky,
various militaries around the world as well as commercial aircraft manufacturers in the
development of tools and systems for the repair and maintenance of both military and
commercial aircraft. Snap on Tool Corporation is one of our aviation tools and systems
distributors.
We also develop a number of specialized products for other markets each year and one of
our current projects is an air conditioned and/or heated massage mattress cover.
Developing the system to generate and control the temperatures to within .1 degree Celsius
proved to be a particular challenge as relates to insulation in very confined areas.
We originally utilized blue construction insulating foam and documented all test results over a
series of 50 half hour test cycles. Temperature fluctuations were noted every 60 seconds as
were power consumption levels.
In our tests, the foam was removed and four coats of NANSULATE were applied to both
sides of cast and machined aluminum plates containing a conditioned glycol mixture. The
NANSULATE was allowed to cure for 30 days, the foam was re-installed and the identical
tests were re-performed.
The difference in the performance of our system was substantial with the NANSULATE
insulated system providing slightly less than double the original performance. To be more
specific, the NANSULATE coated plates allowed our system to reduce temperature at a rate
of 1.8 degrees per minute. With the foam insulation alone we reduced temperature at a rate
of 1.1 degrees per minute. All tests were performed under identical conditions cooling one
gallon of fluid. By speeding up the cooling process we save substantial energy.
Another major benefit for us is the fact that the product will be used in a hospital environment
and the NANSULATE will prevent the growth of unwanted substances on the surfaces of our
system. During our final tests it was also noted that the NANSULATE prevented sweating
during the cooling process. This had previously been a problem.
Thank you again for your valued assistance and introduction to NANSULATE. It truly is a
remarkable product.
Yours truly
Edward Moore

ISSUE:
Applicator:
A large petrochemical facility needed to prevent corrosion
of carbon steel tanks and stop vaporization of
methanol by insulating tanks efficiently. Methanol (CH3OH)
evaporates at 64.7ºC. When the Methanol reaches the
storage tanks the temperature of the liquid is 15ºC and the
goal is that it should not exceed 33ºC.
The chemical plant is located in the Middle East where
humidity between 75% to 90% makes traditional insulation
materials impratical to use due to their fast absorption of
moisture.
Methanol tanks suffered from corrosion and
vaporization of liquid due to hot climate.
SOLUTION:
A layered application of NanoPrime™ at one coat, followed
by Nansulate® High Heat at 2 coats, and Nansulate®
Top Coat (tinted blue) in one coat was spray applied to the
large methanol tanks
Nansulate® insulation technology was chosen for the the project
for the following reasons:
1- An insulating material with extremely low thermal conductivity
was desired, for maximum energy savings.
Nansulate® stopped vaporization of methanol with
effective insulation properties, and offered corrosion
protection and resistance to moisture penetration

NANSULATE ADVANCED INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS
We used Nansulate paint last year to paint a 5m³ heated stainless steel tank which is positioned outdoors at a
company in Cobden. This tank is used for melting butterfat. We achieved a measurable difference in the
contents of this tank but have lost the actual figures recorded at the time of applying the paint. The outside of
the tank was previously too hot to touch. With three coats of Nansulate applied, the touch was now warm to
touch and there was a visual improvement to the melting efficiency of the product inside. We are very happy
with the performance of Nansulate and intend on using it to paint future tanks.

several times daily.
NANSULATE ADVANCED INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS
Why insulate? Why Nansulate?
Global competition forces manufacturing companies to reduce production costs, where energy and metal
prices are increasing rapidly.
Therefore a good way to decrease production cost is to make maximum use of the energy available and to
install systems with much longer usable lifetime.
We need to use more technology in both insulation and corrosion protection.
It is possible to insulate with conventional materials only to a degree because;
1.
2.
3.
4.
you cannot insulate wet areas,
conventional insulation does not prevent corrosion, sometimes increases it
Useful lifetime of conventional insulation is much less,
application of Nansulate is simple and cheap, but takes a longer time.
conventional systems do not offer long term protection against moisture.
We used Nansulate in our textile dyeing and finishing plant; especially for thermal insulation of dyeing
machines which operate at 130 C. Our aims were
i) with a minimum surface temperature reduction of 70 C,
a) decrease energy cost
b) increase process stability(which would mean increased product quality and decreased re-work)),and
process reproducibility
ii) increase machine metal parts lifetime by increased protection against corrosion
iii) increase usable lifetime of cold water and steam valves
iv) decrease dyeing process times.
In this respect, we are aiming to achieve a minimum of 20% gain in energy consumption, and overall 10%
reduction in unit material production cost.
You cannot buy energy cheaper, but with a good insulation, you can achieve maximum gains.
If you are looking for a solution to insulation as well as corrosion protection, offering long-term usage,
Nansulate is the ideal solution.

Nansulate Translucent High Heat was used to insulate the dyeing
machine. Monitoring a process that takes place at 60 C for a 60
minute reaction time; the steam-based heat-exchanger of the uninsulated machine needed 24 heat-on cycles, whereas Nansulate
machine's heat-exchanger only needed 2 heat-on cycles. Nansulate
also improved reproducibility - helping to keep the color of the fabric
indentical.
Importance of Temperature Stability in Reactive Dyeing Process
In reactive dyeing of cotton, there are 5 important process parameters.
(temperature, pH(acidity/alkalinity), salt concentration, bath ratio, reaction time)
For right-first-time dyeings, and reproducable quality, all of these 5 parameters should be the same, every
time.
Parameters like bath ratio, pH, salt concentration and reaction time is nowadays closely monitored and
faultlessy administered with the use of computerized controllers.
Reaction temperature is closely related to heat losses, as a result the reaction temperature oscillates below and
above the reaction set temperature. This oscillation of temperature causes variability in dyeing so that
reproducibility is quite low. For reproducibility to be acceptable, dyeing machine and piping and circulation
assembly should have proper insulation.
In pipes and certain other parts, conventional insulation is possible. The problem area is the insulation of
dyeing machine itself. It has large areas for heat loss, also it needs to be kept at a certain temperature for a
defined duration. Therefore, it may be possible to have better reproducability by dyeing machine insulation.
We have closely monitored a dyeing process which takes place at 60 C for a 60 minute reaction time; the
steam-based heat-exchanger of the un-insulated machine needed 24 heat-on cycles, whereas Nansulate
machine's heat-exchanger only needed 2 heat-on cycles.
This proves that by proper insulation, heat losses are minimized, it also shows that oscillation of temperature
is decreased.
With a Nansulated dyeing machine, we have observed that the colour of fabric was surprisingly identical to
one another, whereas in un-insulated machine, there is always a small difference in colour.

Nansulate Translucent GP
SOLUTION:
Nansulate Translucent GP was used to coat the ceiling of the attic.
The house was 4000 square feet with extremely high pitch roof line.
The area of the attic was a little over 3000 s.f.
With the heat wave that has been experienced over the nation in the
past month, the owner of the house put thermometers in the attic
monitoring the heat throughout the day. During the late afternoons
with the outside temperature at 104 F, the inside of the attic was 143
F.
The initial application covered 1/3 of the attic with 3 coats and 2/3 of
the attic with 2 coats. The crew returned two weeks later to apply the
3rd coat the rest of the attic. They noted that the temperature outside
was 103 F, (it was 3 hours earlier than the first application and at the
peak of the heat for the attic). The temperature of the attic was 101 F,
a 42 degree drop from the uncoated temperature.
The team continued coating the duct work, the A/C units which are in
the attic, plus the ceiling of the attic. With the third coat over the other
2/3 of the attic now done, the applicators and owner expect even
better heat reduction results.

From Customer:
“I will tell you why Nansulate is so important for solar thermal
installations is not only its great insulating ability of the tanks and
piping, but its overall ability to work in the new high tech solar
thermal installations, where the new flat plate panels are
combined with more expensive evacuated tube panels, which
saves the customer money by lowering the overall cost of the
system, but still boosts wintertime performance.

Evacuated tube panels are 60% to 70% efficient in cloudy
winter weather, whereas flat plate panels only are 10% to 20%
efficient. Since evacuated tube panels are better insulated and
designed to hold their heat with the vacuum, the flat plate panels
are detrimental to this process of retaining heat and unfortunately
act as reflectors of this heat when it is needed to be retained for
maximum heat transfer to take place.”

SOLAR PANELS AND SOLAR HOT WATER TANK
Customer:
Kevin Lagorio
“By treating the flat plate panels with Nansulate we have improved the heat retention of the flat plate solar panels
which allows the evacuated tube panels to transfer more of the heat they produce in cloudy weather to be utilized
by the end user. Furthermore they still can cool down the system and protect the evacuated tube panels if needed.
During a maximum heat exchange the treated flat plate panel was 169.50 degrees F which was the same as the
evacuated tube panels; the non treated flat plate panel was 123.80 F degrees. At night after the panels cool down
they are the same temperature, but it is three to four hours before the treated panel cools down to the same
temperature as the untreated panel.
I am getting ready to have the media come to see my house and Nansulate will be one of the many items featured.
If I did not have the Nansulate I wouldn’t have been able to heat my house since 1/1/08 till today (11/24/08)
without using natural gas or wood pellets. I have included some pictures and your product is in every one of them.
Thanks for a great product, patience, and your support.”
