Age is just a number for 18 year old rising star Reezy Ruocks. This young talent has
already acomplished quite a feat for someone his age. Between living the life of a
musician and being a student, Reezy has managed to find a balance as he continues to firmly cement his status as one of Brunei’s youngest recording artist.
Q: As an 18 year old artist, how do
you overcome being a
student as well as an entertainer?
A: When I got more involved with
my music, I realised that I had to do
something to create the balance
between my studies and my music. To
overcome the challenges, discipline
has become the main factor that i
emphasize in my daily life. Besides
that, my mom makes sure that I do
not neglect my studies. And my
manager also helps me to make it
easier by giving me a flexible
schedule to work on my music.
Q : How would you describe your
music? Who was your inspiration?
A : My music genre can be a blend
of R&B, HipHop or even Rock but
definitely with a touch of electro
music in it. My strong musical
influences are Michael Jackson and
Kanye Wesy. Then one day, I began
to rap, recorded it and gave it to
Snapp Beatz Records and I got lucky.

artist. I was only 16 then.

‘Having good people to support new
talents and their hard work is a plus
point’
artist in Brunei, do you feel pressured
or motivated in moving forward?
A : Age is not an issue. Having good
people to support new talents and
their hard work is a plus point. My
manager gives me a planned
schedule that I can’t agree more.
Last but not least, I have the full
support of the family and I am just
enyoying the moment.

Q: What are your plans for the
future? Any collaborations with other
local artists perhaps?
A: I am working on 12 tracks for my
debut album now which is expected
to release early this year and
Electro Girl will be in it. Yes, there will
be collaborations with local and
international artists.
Q: Lastly, what would you like to say
to your fans out there?
when is it coming out?
A : The name of the track is Electro

artist from the states). The Music is
composed and produced locally
at Snapp Beatz Records while the

A: I would like to say thank you to all

vocal coach that helps you
get your voice ‘in shape’?
A: I’ve loved singing from a very A:
young age. I was lucky, I guess,
to know where my interests were
from a very young age. I’d sing
anywhere during my free time.
I’d download songs and lyrics
and just sing. It was a form of
release for me. This in fact, led
me to enter singing competitions - P2F being one of them. I
didn’t get into the first two seasons but I was lucky the third
time. Then this whirlwind happened. I didn’t know where I was
going to go with my music, but it
looks like it’s going to be a very
interesting and exciting ride.

Were there any moments
that made you doubt that

you?
A:
This is life! Anything can
happen. We go through our ups
and downs. Of course, there
have been times when I’ve
thought that maybe singing
would not be a career option.
However, I believe in dreams
and everyone’s ability to make
things happen for themselves.
I’m here now so it’s onwards
and upwards as the saying goes.

I wake up and try to live
as wonderful and productive a day as I can because
life is for living, not existing.

Razi
‘our very own rising star’
“ Passion drives you crazy, but is
there any other way to Live?”
When did you first start
singing professionaly?
It was in 2004, when I first joined the Pilihan-Akira talentime
competition hosted by RTB, and won the contect. It was
quite a turning point in my life because from then on, I
realised singing is definitely my forte.
On a personal note, it was like finding myself. I couldn’t
imagine doing anything else than that. Ever since then,
singing wise, I affiliated myself with PhuturePhase productions
and form there, a few of my songs were produced. I also
got invitations from RTB to represent Brunei on MOU projects
(singing) with other countries as well as performing for royal
events and corpotate shows.
What have you been up to lately?
Currently, I’m experimenting and composing my own songs.
My first try in composing was actually for a contest held by
RTB. I composed the song “Damba” last year and I won. It
was a surprise for me because I never had the experience in
composing anything. But winning the competition made me
believe that every artist has their own style that they can’t
compromise.
From then onwards, I made a habit of writing songs in a
journal and even on the notes app on facebook. I jot down
my ideas for anything really. Recently, the Earth Hour
Committee in Brunei chose another composition of mine,
“Experience” and I also won the Avima 2010 awards for the
song “Quench”
Both these sings have their own symbolic meaning.
“Experience” was inspired by the ocean; in the notion that
if we can talk and converse with out experience and what
we’d say. “Quench” on the other hand is actually a love
song to the Almighty. Inspired by my visit to Mecca. I still
can’t believe that I was nominated for best pop RnB act and
best song at Avima’s

Clique’s Tips on how to stay
full longer
by Ilhamina Masri
To prevent overeating, it is important that you feel satisfied throughout your day. Feeling
full is also one of the secrets to stay within a healthy diet without feeling a sense of
deprivation. Some dieters think they have to starve themselves to lose weight, but that’s
actually Cot the right way. Reality is, the less you feel hungry, the fewer calories you are
likely to eat. Here are some pointers to help you feel fuller for longer:
- It is important to stay well-hydrated.
But if you’ve already had plenty of
water to drink, you can also give into
smart snacks. Remember it’s better
to eat something rater than keep
drinking when you begin to feel really
hungry. Liquids do not give the same
sense of satiety that solid food gives.
- Exercise releases serotonin which
helps improve your mood and
decrease hunger. For some, this may
help reduce the number of calories
eaten after exercise. However some
may be tempted to over-eat after
exercising; so pay close attention to
what you eat.
Note: Milk is an exception to this
because it becomes a semi-solid in
the stomach. Therefore it takes more
work to digest milk. The process
elongates the time we remain full.
- Seeing a small portion may make
you think they you are not eating
enough and it’ll leave you feeling
hungry. You can truck the eye into
thinking you’re eating more by
loading up the plate with plenty of
low calorie and nutritional food such
as vegetables.
- Protein fills you up more quickly than
carbohydrates and fats. Protein takes
longer to metabolize and should
comprise to about 15-20% of your
daily calorie intake.
Good sources protein include lean
meats, fish and beans. Nuts are also
good protein source; though they are
high in calories, they are certainly
filling. Enjoy a controlled portion daily
to help you eat less overall.
14
- Planning for a daily calorie intake
goal, taking portions and tracking
your calories slow down your
eating phase. When you eat slowly,
you inevitably eat less. Dining leisurely
allows you to wait for a sense of
fullness to reach your brain. If you eat
too quickly, by the time you get the
signal, you may have already eaten
too much.
The Importance of Eating a Healthy Breakfast
Eating a healthy breakfast is important for many reasons.
Not only does it help you
perform better at school or at work by
improving your level of concentration and the rate at
which you complete tasks, it can also help you keep the
extra pounds at bay.
Eating a healthy breakfast gives you energy and helps to
stabilize your blood sugar which can control your
appetite until lunch time. Plus, going too long without
eating makes your metabolism slow down.
A Guide To Choosing The Right Type of Food

some healthy fats. Consider these healthy breakfast builders.

love & relationships
Oh-No He Didn’t!
Each time a relationship ends, no
matter the reason, there’ll always
be two sides of the story. The men
and the women will have their own
interpretations of the break-up and
both rightfully defending their side
of the story.
The Break-Up
There are a million reasons why a relationship can end. It
doesn’t mean there’s no love left there. Might be because
two people are incompatible, maybe cause they can’t
agree to one thing or maybe even caused by the people
around them.
There’s a sound reason behind every break up, most
happen for a reason. However in other cases, break-ups
are not permanent. They’re just a way for two people to
experience life on their own only to realise who they
belong to at the end of the day.
Whatever the reason, break-ups are never easy. For the
girls, a whirlwind of emotions will invade their day. Each
daily habit will remind them of their significant other in any
way possible.
Break ups can also affect the men. This is the case most of
the time when the man is more committed to the
relationship compared to the woman. It is also the case
when he gets cheated on.
Having said all that, a break-up is a break-up and there’s
not much left to be said. However plenty can be done to
get you through it. Here’s a few pointers from Clique to get
you through the day.
16
Break!
A break is a break. We’re all emotionally caught up
when we come across a break. Sometimes, we should
take a step back, reflect, take in the good and move
forward.
Allow yourself to give yourself a break of your own. Kick
back, relax and enjoy your own company. Treat yourself
with a good movie, or a day at the spa, maybe even
indulge in a tub of ice cream!
There will always be a reason to be emotionaly down,
but don’t let that get the best of you. Instead, give
yourself the love you have given your partner in the past.
You’ll be back on track in no time!
The
Fix Up
Talk it out
At times like these, talking is the only way out. Sometimes
little closure is better than no closure at all. With putting
everything on the table, we feel less the weight and
emotions that have been bottled up inside.
With talking things through, we also learn more about the
other, we know what they’ve been feeling, thinking of and
even going through.
There’s always a possibility for compromise after all the
bickering. Let him know how you feel. You never know,
there might just be a way out of a problem.
