General Instructions
Read all instructions before beginning.
All seams are ¼”.
Fabric & Yardage
Blocks:1 Graphix 3 Snack Pack (314G3)
2-7/8 yards gray solid (160-9810)
Backing: 1-3/4 yards of coordinating fabric
Binding: 1/2 yard of black solid (160-9804)
Batting: 60” x 66”
All fabrics shown in the cover quilt are from Paintbrush Studio’s Graphix 3 & Prairie Cloth
collections. Yardage to make a quilt using the same fabrics shown in the cover quilt are
shown in box above. The total above includes the fabric for the pieced back.
Quilt Top Construction
From the gray solid, cut 40 strips 2 ½” x width of fabric.
Sew one long edge of a Snack Pack strip to one long edge of a gray strip as shown below.
Press to the gray side. Repeat for all other 2 ½” strips to make 40 pieced strips.
Slice your new pieced strips into 4 ½” blocks. You should get at least 8 blocks from each
pieced strip. Trim selvedges off one side of pieced strip before cutting 4 ½” widths.

Separate your blocks into the 10 different color sets shown below & on the following page.

Using a design wall or flat surface, lay your blocks out into rows and columns to form the
zig-zag pattern. For each run of stairs, use only one of the 10 color sets.
Once you are happy with your arrangement, sew the blocks together in rows. Press the
seams in opposite directions from row to row.
After all the rows have been completed, sew the rows together to create your quilt top.
Press your seams in one direction.

Quilt Back Construction
18 ½” x 60” rectangle of coordinating fabric
12 ½” x 60” rectangle of coordinating fabric
Use a design wall or flat surface to arrange the remaining blocks in 15 rows of 9 blocks.
Once you are happy with the placement of your blocks, sew them together into rows.
Press to one side, reversing the pressing direction from row to row.
After you have completed the rows, sew the rows together to form one patchwork section
for the middle of the backing. From your coordinating backing fabric, cut 2 rectangles:
One rectangle - 12 ½” x 60”
One rectangle - 18 ½” x 60”
Sew the rectangles on opposite sides of your pieced section as shown above. Press to
complete the 60" x 66" quilt back.

Finishing
Layer the backing, batting, and quilt top to create the quilt sandwich. Baste and quilt as
desired.
Trim the excess backing and batting off of your quilt to square it up.
From binding fabric, cut 6 strips of fabric, 2 ½” wide x WOF. Cut off the selvedges. Piece
the strips together along the short ends to create one long strip. Press the seams open.
Fold the binding in half with wrong sides of long edges together. Press.
Align the raw edges of the quilt with the raw edges of the binding. Sew the binding to the
front of the quilt. Wrap the binding around the back of the quilt and hand stitch it into
place, mitering the corners.
