2014 PLA Scholarship Winners
The Portage Lake Association named its scholarship recipients
for 2014. Kaitlin Kubisky and Carlos Rivera each won a $1000
PLA scholarship. They were chosen out of several well qualified
applicants for this year’s scholarships. Carlos will be attending
Michigan State University to study linguistics and Kaitlin will be
attending West Shore Community College studying to become a
paramedic.
This is the fourth year the PLA has been able to offer scholarships.
We focus on scholastic achievement as well as civic contributions
with students in the Onekama Consolidated School district. Any
graduating student is encouraged to apply that meets the academic
requirements. Scholarships can be used for any accredited post
high school program including vocational, community college or
university study.
Funding for scholarships comes from our Annual Fundraiser event
which will be held on June 28th of this year and our Pig Out for
Scholarships and Craft Beer Tasting events, which are part of
Onekama Days on August 1st, 2014.
