ure, it’s a cliche: everybody loves a parade.
An appreciative host of spectators who lined
the streets of downtown Brownwood Saturday
morning surely loved the colorful Brownwood
Feels Like Home Grand Parade, expressing approval for the 43 floats, more than 100 vehicles,
marching bands and dozens on foot who passed by.
Parade Chairman Rick Phelps decided that the grand
marshal for this year’s parade would be law enforcement,
in honor of the late Sheriff Bobby Grubbs and the other
law officers who have died this year.
A pickup with a placard bearing Grubbs’ name and
a caravan of law enforcement vehicles helped lead the
parade away from its staging area in the Bank of America
parking lot and on Clark Street. Representatives of the
U.S. military and World War II re-enactors were among the
parade’s participants.
The parade began at 10 on a morning that couldn’t
seem to decide if the weather was going to be pleasant or
hot. The day would cool off later in the afternoon as rain
fell, but the morning weather seemed to trend toward the
warm side.
While a few spectators commented on the increasingly
warm morning, no one seemed to mind as vehicles, floats
and participants on foot traveled down the narrow downtown streets.
As participants made their way back into the Bank of
America parking lot at the parade’s conclusion, Phelps had
some announcements: The Sisters on the Fly entry was
awarded first place, followed by Kids Inc. with a second
place award and Brownwood Nursing and Rehab with third
place.
Phelps stepped forward to greet participants as they
entered the parking lot. “Hey, thank you for coming …
hey, good job, band … thank you, Scouts, for coming. You
looked great.”
A float carrying Early Middle School cheerleaders passed
by Phelps. “Hey, did y’all have a good time?” Phelps called
out.
Phelps received a one-word answer: “Yeahhh!”

There was little activity at Brownwood
Regional Airport that morning as airport
employee Kyle Almand radioed that
he would be driving a city-owned Ford
Crown Victoria along a portion of the
airport’s longest runway.
The 46-year-old Almand had a fairly
simple task: replacing burned-out light
bulbs in the PAPI (Precision Approach
Path Indicator) lights at both ends of the
runway. The lights assist pilots who are
landing on the runway.
Almand noted the airport’s three wind
socks — one in the grass near both ends
of the long runway, and another one in
the grass near the middle of the runway.
“It’s not unusual to have all three of
them off,” Almand said, noting that they
could all be indicating slightly different

Fat Loss
As you will see below, we are losing muscle every year of life
after the age of 25. We are becoming fatter as people and a
nation. According to the newest statistics over 81% of America is
overweight(over fat). This is not a good thing.
At Abstract we help our clients lose as much as 22 lbs. of fat in
only 8 weeks! This is a huge change when you understand that
10 lbs. of fat is the size of a basketball. Through proper exercise,
diet, motivation and accountability our clients lose on average 2

New Lean Muscle
As we age we lose muscle,in fact, according to research, we lose
it at a rate of 1/2 a pound a year. That is a loss of 5 lbs. of lean
muscle per decade. This loss of muscle drops our metabolic rate
by 7% every 10 years. Ever wonder why you seem to eat the
same or less as you did when you were 25 but the fat still comes
on? What is the answer to this old problem? Less calories burnt
because we have less lean muscle. By the way, this is a factor of
disuse not aging.
Our clients will see a change in their bodies very quickly. In fact,
usually within 6-8 weeks(if the client comes in with the right
attitude)most will see an increase of 3 lbs. of lean muscle. New
muscle will make a very dramatic change in not only how they
feel but also on their metabolism. This new muscle will equate to

People after the age of 25-30 begin to lose bone at a rate of 1%
year. In just 10 years we will have lost 10% of our bone density.

epidemic, this is called Osteoporosis. Thats the bad news.
