NEXT GUILD MEETING
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Saturday, February 20, 2016
Despite our threatening January weather we had a good
turnout at our meeting.
GRACE COMMUNITY CHURCH
Thanks to guild members who volunteered to run
workshops. As I walked around each area people seemed to
be very involved in learning new techniques and or new
ways to use their skills. So thank you Anna, Erika, Sue
Stepp and Pat for sharing and also to those of you who
participated.
On another topic, the scholarship we decided to start up is
totally voluntary option to assist guild members in need. If
interested there will be a collection basket at the back of the
church.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
When planning your quilt for the shelter think children
please use batting and either tie or machine quilt. And if
you want, please put a red heart on it! For the nursing
home: please plan for an adult, both female and male.
NO Batting NO heart!!! Just a top and a backing. Lite
weight corduroy or flannel. The size should be about 3638" wide and about 48" long. Not too wide as they can
get caught in the wheelchair wheels. Community service
sewing is the Wednesday AFTER the regular meeting.
Community service sewing is held at the Kingston Elks
Lodge, 143 Hurley Ave., Kingston, at 9:00 until noon.

way to start the meeting that coincides with National
Quilting Day. Also on National Quilting Day, we will be
collecting nonperishable food items and household needs
such as paper towels, soaps and animal food, for Grace
Church’s Food Pantry. Again, it is hoped that we will all
participate.
The minutes of the previous business meeting, in
November, were accepted as presented. There were no
additions or corrections. Vesta Lawless reported that we
had 71 members in attendance today, with one guest.
Pat Williams, Treasurer, said that WQG had $15,214.42
in our account as of 12/31/2015. Two checks have been
written since then. Pat will give the duties of Treasurer to
Theresa Pabon for the time that she will be away this
winter. Joan Polakoff made a motion to accept the
Treasurer’s report, and Evelyn Urbom seconded this
motion.
Jackie Sittner, Quilt show chairperson, said that the
bookmarks for our upcoming Quilt Show, are at the
printer.
Regina Packard offered empty baskets to members who
will be making Dream Baskets for our Quilt
Show.
Susan Gray said that this month’s clue for the Mystery
Quilt has many Flying Geese in it, but that those
participating can use whatever method they prefer to
make these so long as they come out the correct size.
Theresa announced that the Board had decided that we
will not be purchasing a new sound system.
Susan Stessin-Cohn spoke of the upcoming workshops.
These will be listed in our Guild newsletter and on our
Guild website.
Shirley Swenson made a motion to adjourn the meeting,
and this was seconded by Jackie Sittner.
The Third Saturday in March Every Year!
National Quilting Day - Celebrate!!
Our guild meeting happens to be the same day as
National Quilting Day, March 19, 2016. Read more about
this on the National Quilting Association website:
http://www.nqaquilts.org/nqd/
Similar to last year, the Board agreed that a way to
celebrate this day is to show appreciation for
Grace Community Church for allowing us to use their
facility by helping stock their Essentials
Pantry. As you enter the door, there has been a large
basket for donations. Wouldn’t it be nice if our members
brought in articles on March 19th for this? The list of
non-food items requested are: toilet paper, dish soap,
SOS pads, paper towels, facial tissue, napkins, sandwich
bags, coffee filters, laundry soap, all-purpose cleaner,
hand & body soap/lotion, shampoo, toothpaste, dental
floss, toothbrushes, sun screen, deodorant. Food stamps
and WIC don’t cover these items. Non-perishable foods
are also needed. We are publishing this in our February
newsletter in case you see some nice sales, like buy one
– get one free. A nice way to show ‘caring and sharing’.

Minutes of the Business Meeting of the WQG of
January, 16, 2016
Submitted by Joan Polakoff,
Recording Secretary
President Theresa Pabon called the meeting to order at
10 a.m.
Prior to the reports by Committee heads, Theresa
announced that the MODA CHALLENGE for 2016, 3rd
place winner, is local and will be invited to our March
Guild meeting, along with her teacher. She will be
presented with a certificate from our Guild.
We were all told that in future, we must be careful not to
infringe on copyright laws when using a pattern or
technique in one of our workshops. It is important to
abide by the intellectual property rights of designers or
magazines.
The WQG will be starting a scholarship fund to help pay
Guild members’ dues for any member who is in financial
difficulty. This is to be funded by asking our members
who are able, to donate to this fund at our March meeting.
It is hoped that all of us who can, will put money into the
box that will be at our sign in table. This will be a great
