Hudson Highlights Term 1
n o s d u H Term One 2016 Highlights Hudson Park Pupils Volunteer at Ironman Hudson Park High School learners helped the Ironman 70.3 athletes achieve their goals by providing energy drinks, water and cooling sponges, with a smile. Based in Turnberry Road, the Hudson students cheered the athletes up the last section of the gruelling hill, and gave them the energy to take advantage of the slope on the way down. It was a pleasure to have the shouts of encouragements from the students, and Hudson also had learners dancing with the cheerleaders, who were fantastic. Well done to the Hudson Park volunteers. They did the school, and themselves proud. Our New Flashy Website The Hudson Park Schools have been working hard to develop a brand new website. We are excited to confirm that it is up and running. Lively workshops were held for Grade 8 learners on the dangers of using alcohol and drugs. No First Term is complete without its celebrations to mark Valentines’ Day. This year, the Grade 9 learners conducted their annual Valentine’s Day project. Each class was responsible for the production of Valentine’s hearts which were then sold to pupils in order to raise money for charity. GRADE 8 ORIENTATION Candle-Lighting Ceremony Our traditional Candle-Lighting Ceremony is held each year to impress upon Grade 8 learners the importance of unity, the sharing of knowledge, and the nurturing of the wonderful potential inherent in each of us. In a hushed gathering in the Centenary Hall, few hearts remained untouched as our head boy and head girl, having lit their candles from the Founders’ Orientation Activities Grade 8 learners were warmly welcomed during a week of activities designed to make them feel at home and to introduce them to the numerous opportunities, in all four Pillars, which are open to them at Hudson Park. Light-hearted touches were added when the ‘freshers’ Day Torch, proceeded to light those held by the prefects. It was then the turn of the prefects to light the candles of the Grade 8 learners, and they slowly made their way from the front of the Hall to the back until the Hall was filled with the flickering glow of over 200 tiny flames.
