Branch Out in
Your Stark Parks!
Summer time is synonymous with Stark Parks. This
year will be better than ever! With new, improved
programs and the addition of rentable stand-up paddle
boards (SUPs) in our marinas, we’re challenging you,
your family, and civic groups to “branch out” and try
something you’ve never done! It’s your summer to
make your own adventures! Make sure to check out
the summer calendar (p.3-5) for program dates and times!

Trail & Park Updates
Fry Family Park (Pike Twp)
Widening of the existing drive
has begun. Construction of a
large parking lot, shelter, and
nature play area will follow.
The park is planned to open
to the public in the fall for limited uses, including hiking and
fishing.
Iron Horse Trail (Alliance)
Crews are completing the trail north to State Steet. Signage and
amenities will be completed this spring/early summer. The
trail is designated for hiking and biking.
Mahoning Valley Trail
(Alliance)
Construction has closed the
on-road connection of the trail
at Rockhill Ave. for the summer.
There will not be a designated
detour route.
Stark Parks’ marinas -located at Sippo Lake Park in Perry Township and
Walborn Reservoir, north of Alliance- have been designated Ohio Clean
Marinas. The goal of the Clean Marinas Program is environmental
stewardship by making marinas and boaters more aware of environmental laws, rules and jurisdictions. Some of the requirements include
proper fish waste removal, the use of environmentally-friendly paints
and cleaning supplies, and drinking water quality.
Magnolia Flouring Mills (Magnolia)
The Magnolia Flouring Mill has been awarded $1 million
from the State Capital budget for improvements outlined
in the preliminary design from 2013. Final design will begin
late summer and construction will begin in the spring of
2017 to address as many of the improvements as possbile
with the $1 million.
Quail Hollow (Lake Twp)
Beginning May 19, the nature center is open to the public
every Thur. 4 - 8 p.m., Fri. & Sat. 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. and
Sun. 1 - 4 p.m.
The Quail Hollow Volunteer Association will offer tours of
the Stewart Manor House June 12, July 10, and Aug. 14
from 1 - 4 p.m. Each tour lasts approximately 1 hour. The
last tour is at 4 p.m.
Sandy Valley Trail (Magnolia/Waynesburg)
Residents can expect to see crews working on the loop trail
in teh center of Magnolia around the former school.
Sippo Valley Trail (Massillon)
A gravel parking lot is being constructed at Skyland Ave. The
lot will include 14 spaces and direct access to the trail.

Friends of Stark Parks is a charitable 501c3.
Proceeds raised through Friends of Stark Parks events will be put towards the
development of Stark Parks efforts to provide quality services to Stark County’s communities.
Jade, a Red Fox, is
Stark Parks newest animal
ambassador! She is five years old
and has spent her life in the
presence of humans, making her
a poor candidate for release back
into the wild. Staff are training her
to follow commands, so she can be
shared with the public at programs
and events. She loves to explore
and play with plush toys, new
scents, tennis balls, and a variety
of dog toys. Welcome to the Stark
Parks Family, Jade!
