SCHOOLING POLICY
Hunter Rings: Open schooling is permitted on warm-up days from 10am to 5pm. Each morning during the show,
hunter rings are open for schooling up until 30 minutes before their start time. Each afternoon, hunter rings may
be open for schooling after being rebuilt by the course designer, time permitting.
Main Jumper Ring: Open schooling is permitted on warm-up days from 10am until 4pm. NO OTHER
SCHOOLING OVER FENCES IS ALLOWED DURING THE WEEK. Schooling over the open water only may be
permitted, by request, every afternoon for a brief period, time permitting.
Jumper Ring 2: Open schooling is permitted on warm-up days from 10am to 5pm. Each morning during the
show, Jumper Ring 2 is open for schooling up until one hour before its start time. Each afternoon, Jumper Ring 2
may be open for schooling after being rebuilt by the course designer, time permitting.

OPPORTUNITY CLASSES

Opportunity classes are for entry level riders, and have been developed to create an educational ladder for the beginning competitor. Exhibitors in the opportunity
classes may not cross enter into any USEF rated classes. Horses/riders entered only in these opportunity classes are exempt from the Federation fees and
membership requirements including drugs and medication fee, horse recording and membership. Riders are not required to pay a non-member fee. All classes
will be judged on control of mount, appropriate pace, steering and effective position.

the section will be double-pinned. Entry Fee: $30 per class. All
courses will be once or twice around outside lines.
Championships offered in each section. All classes to count
equally towards the championship and points awarded 10, 6, 4, 2,
1, 1/2. In the event of a tie for Champion or Reserve, the entry
with the most points over fences will be the winner. If still tied, the
entry with the most points in the Eq Flat class will be the winner.

CLASSICS / SPECIAL CLASSES
MINIMUM NUMBER OF ENTRIES: If there are less than six entries at 5:00pm the day before, the Classic or Special Class will be
canceled or combined at management’s discretion.
ORDER OF GO / POST ENTERING: In order to facilitate a starting order, entries into any Classics / Special Classes at this show
must be made by 5:00pm the day before the class is offered. Entries made by this time will not incur any Post Entry Fee and will be
included in the draw for the order of go. Entries made after this time, if accepted, will incur a $25 Post Entry Fee and will be required to
go first in the order.
SCRATCHING: Entries are allowed to scratch any Classic / Special Class up until 5:00pm the day before it is offered with no Scratch
Fees. Scratches made after this time will forfeit the class entry fee unless such scratch is due to injury to horse or rider and a written
note from the official horse show veterinarian or medical personnel is presented at the time of the scratch.
ATTIRE: Formal attire is requested. Proper attire is mandatory.
WEEKS OFFERED: Classics and Special Classes are offered all three weeks unless otherwise noted.

the start of the class. Horses must have entered and shown in at least two other hunter classes over fences in any section at the same
show. Riders may show as many horses as they wish in this class. Formal attire required.
CLASS CONDITIONS: The first round will be a regular hunter classic course consisting of at least ten fences at 3’0” in height with four
option fences at 3’5” in height. The top 12 entries will return for a second round over a handy hunter course consisting of at least eight
fences at 3’0” in height with four option fences at 3’5” in height. Two judges shall sit together and throw one score. After the judges’
score is given, one point will be added for each high option fence jumped without major fault (maximum of four points per round).
Scores from both rounds will be added together to determine the placings. Horses entered in this class will not be required to jog for
soundness. Any unsoundness during the competition will be reflected in the scores from the judges.
AWARDS / PRIZE MONEY: Winners must ride for awards. Trophy and Ribbon to 1st Place - Ribbons awarded through 8th Place.
Prize money divided as follows: 30%, 22%, 15%, 10%, 7%, 6%, 5%, 5%. High Score Awards to be presented to the highest placing
junior, highest placing amateur and highest placing professional.

As per USEF Rule JP148.9, all horses entered in the Grand Prix must be on the competition grounds for the twenty-four hour period
prior to the scheduled start of the class. DESIGNATION OF ROLEX / USEF SHOW JUMPING RANKING LIST HORSE - For each
class in which riders are permitted to ride more than one horse, the rider will designate their Rolex / USEF Show Jumping Ranking List
horse prior to the beginning of the class, and ride this horse first in the competition. In each case, it will be this combination on which
he/she will earn points. For riders who do not designate their Rolex/USEF Show Jumping Ranking List horse prior to the start order
being determined, his Rolex/USEF Show Jumping Ranking List horse will be the first horse he rides in the class. If a rider scratches

Membership Requirements: Before entering the medal finals, trainers and riders must be members of CPHA.
Qualifying: Three (3) points qualifies for the finals.
Restrictions: Riders may not compete if they have won any medal class, equitation, hunter or jumper class with fences 3’ or higher or
any rider who is currently showing at 3’3” or has shown 3’3” in the last five years.
Specifications: First and Second Rounds - The class will be held over a 2'6" course with a minimum of eight fences, no
combinations, and at least two changes of direction. One test of either a halt or trot fence must be included in round one. There will be
two rounds with scores announced for each round and averaged together for the final score. All riders will return for round two in the
reverse order of go. There will be a work-off after the two rounds with the top 4 and anyone within 3 points of the leader or a score of
80 or above using USEF Eq Tests 1-8 (riders will not be asked to dismount or ride without stirrups). Riders will ride for ribbons and
awards first thru tenth and a victory gallop.
Additional: There is to be no contact between exhibitor and/or trainer to either judges or course designer prior to or at the conclusion
of any round without the specified technical delegate or show steward present.
Substitutions: The same horse must be ridden through all phases of the competition. However, due to illness or injury of the horse a
rider may petition to ride a substitute horse. This substitution must be approved by the Appeals Committee consisting of the Show
Manager, the Chief Steward and the Official Veterinarian, who has in fact examined the horse and determined it’s unsuitability to
continue.

In all Hunter championships, the titles shall be awarded to two of the four horses which have acquired the most points over fences.
In addition to these points, only these four horses shall receive points for ribbons won in Under Saddle classes and Model classes.
Ties in USEF Hunter Championships shall be broken as specified in the USEF Rule Book. Others shall remain tied and shall flip /
draw for the awards. Hunter points calculated: 10-6-4-2-1-1/2. Jumper points for all but the final class in each section shall be pointed 10-6-4
-2-1-1/2. The final class in each jumper section shall be a Bonus Point class and shall count 15-9-6-3-2-1. In case of a tie for champion or
reserve, the winner shall be the entry with more points in the Bonus Point class. Equitation points calculated: 10, 6, 4, 2, 1, 1/2. In case of a
tie for champion or reserve, the winner shall be the entry with more points over fences. If still tied, more points in the Equitation Flat class.

General Rules & Regulations
ENTRY CLOSING DATES: Entries must be postmarked by Monday, June 4th for Circuit Opener, Monday, June 11th for Bay Area Summer
Festival & Monday, June 18th for Golden Gate Classic and received within 7 days of the postmark.
ENTRY PROCEDURES:
a) For each horse entered, send only the $50 Entry Deposit, Stall Fees: $175 (North stabling) or $210 (Grand Prix stabling) for each stall requested and
any applicable Jumper Nominating Fee. If hauling in each day, do not include a stall fee.
b) The entry form MUST be completely filled out and include: horse’s name and complete description, all classes entered and all required
signatures (including parent / guardian in the case of a minor exhibitor). Entries that do not conform are considered incomplete and are subject to
a $50 Incomplete Entry Fee.
c) Enclose a check, payable to WCO, BASF or GGC respectively (credit cards are not accepted for entry deposits) that is completely filled out (not left
open) that will be deposited on the entry closing date. You must then bring a signed, open check or a credit card to the show for the remainder of your
fees. NUMBERS WILL NOT BE ISSUED WITHOUT THIS SIGNED, OPEN CHECK OR CREDIT CARD IMPRINT LODGED WITH THE SHOW
OFFICE.
d) Entries received by the closing date and adhering to the entry procedure outlined will have the $50 Entry Deposit credited to their horse’s account. Late
entries and entries made at the show will be charged a $50 Late Entry Fee.
e) Stalls paid for by entry closing date will be $175 or $210. Stalls paid for after entry closing date will be $190 or $225.

USEF, USHJA, PCHA, NORCAL, CPHA and various other organizations have specific requirements for entry and participation in certain or all classes
at this competition. Proof of membership for owners, riders and trainers, USEF Pony and Junior Hunter measurement cards and horse recording
numbers are among the items that sanctioning organizations require. Competitors are responsible for knowledge of the requisite rules and for providing
the required data. Non-member and other fees must be assessed if these items are not available. Competitors may be refused entry into certain
classes if required data is not provided.
HUNTER / EQ FEE: Horses or ponies entered in any hunter or equitation
classes at this show must pay a $35 Hunter / Eq Fee. This fee allows
hunters and equitation entries to add/scratch classes up to 5:00pm the day
before and to school in the rings when available.
HIGH JUMPER NOMINATING FEE: Horses entered in any 1.20m or higher
jumper classes (EXCEPT Mod Jr/Am Jumper) must pay a $75 High Jumper
Nominating Fee. This fee allows jumpers to add / scratch classes the day
before at no charge. Horses entered only in the YJC classes DO NOT
have to pay the High Jumper Nominating Fee.
LOW JUMPER NOMINATING FEE: Horses entered in any jumper classes
below 1.20m (AND Mod Jr/Am Jumper) must pay a $50 Low Jumper
Nominating Fee. This fee allows jumpers to add / scratch classes the day
before at no charge. Horses entered only in the YJC classes DO NOT have
to pay the Low Jumper Nominating Fee.
JUMPER NOMINATING FEE REFUND POLICY: Prior to entry closing
date: 100% refundable; after the entry closing date and prior to the start of
the show - 50% refundable; after the show starts, regardless of whether or
not the horse has shown in any classes, the Jumper Nominating Fee is non
-refundable under any circumstances.
CHECKING-IN AT THE HORSE SHOW OFFICE: Upon checking in at the
horse show office and picking up the horse’s number, classes may be
added, scratched or changed without penalty.
ADDING REGULAR CLASSES: To add a regular class after the horse’s
number has been picked up, you MUST do so by 5:00pm the day before
the class is to be held and you must add it on an Add / Scratch Form in the
horse show office (trainers may complete the Trainer Form). There is no
charge to add classes if done the day before. Same day adds, if allowed,
will incur a $10 per class fee. Absolutely no classes may be added after
they have started.
SCRATCHING REGULAR CLASSES: To scratch a regular class after the
horse’s number has been picked up, you MUST scratch it on an Add /
Scratch Form or Trainer Form in the horse show office PRIOR to the start of
the class (a class may not be scratched once it has started). Telling the
starter at the back gate that you are not going or not showing up will result
in forfeiture of your entry fee. There is no charge to scratch if done by
5:00pm the day before. Same day scratches will be charged a $10 per
class fee.
CLASSICS / SPECIAL CLASSES: May add up until 5pm the day before.
After that time, if accepted, adds will incur a $25 Fee and must go first in
the order. May scratch up to 5pm the day before without penalty. After that
time and same day scratches will forfeit the class entry fee unless scratch is
due to injury to horse or rider and a written note from the official show
veterinarian or medical personnel is presented at the time of the scratch.
TRANSFERS AND CHANGES: The transfer of horses and riders
from one class or section to another will be allowed under the following
circumstances:
•
Transfer is made the day prior to the start of the class or section.
•
Full credit will be given for the scratched class or section, but Post
Entry Fees must be paid on all added classes or sections.
•
There is no charge for exhibitors changing horses in an equitation
class provided the change is processed correctly through the horse
show office.
SUBSTITUTIONS - SAME OWNER: With a vet’s certificate, a new horse
may be substituted for a scratched horse under the following conditions:
•
Both horses are owned / leased by the same owner.
•
The scratched horse has not shown in any classes.
•
The scratched horse pays a $50 Show Scratch Fee.
•
The scratched horse’s stall fee is transferred to the substituted horse.
•
The substituted horse pays no late fee.
•
The substituted horse pays no add fees when initially completing an
entry blank and entering classes, but is subject to all of the rules after
the entry blank is submitted and the number is picked up.
SUBSTITUTIONS - SAME TRAINER: Same as above except the
substituted horse pays an additional $35 office fee.
SHOW SCRATCHES:
•
On or before the closing date of entries, all fees shall be refunded.
•
After the closing date of entries, the Entry Deposit, Stall Fee and
proper portion of any Jumper Nominating Fee are not refundable
under any circumstances.
•
All other fees will be refunded upon presentation of a statement
signed by a veterinarian (or medical doctor in the case of a rider)
stating that the horse (or rider) is unable to perform in the classes
entered (exception: see sections on Jumper Nominating Fee). All
scratches must be submitted in writing to be considered for a refund;
phone call scratches will not be considered. REFUND REQUESTS
MUST BE SUBMITTED BY THE END OF THE SHOW. NO
REFUND REQUESTS WILL BE CONSIDERED AFTER THE SHOW.

STABLING:
•
Whether occupied by horses, feed or tack, North stalls will be
available for $175 each and Grand Prix Barn stalls for $210 each.
First bedding is not included. The stalls are approximately 9’6” by 9’6”
steel framed canvas panels with doors. Stalls paid for late after entry
closing date will be $190 and $225 respectively.
•
The show office handles all stall transactions and charges. Private
transactions involving stalls are not permitted.
•
Management reserves the right to limit tack stalls.
•
Stall fees are not refundable after entry closing date unless all stalls at
a show are sold and the cancelled stall can be re-sold to another
competitor based on the Show Secretary’s waiting list.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE - Circuit Opener: Arrival after 10:00am
Monday June 18th and departure by 8:00pm Sunday, June 24th. Bay Area
Summer Festival: Arrival after 10:00am Monday June 25th and departure
by 8:00pm Sunday, July 1st. Golden Gate Classic: Arrival after 10:00am
Monday July 2nd and departure by 8:00pm Sunday, July 8th. Early arrivals
or late departures MUST be arranged in advance by contacting Linda
McRae at (818) 563-3250, ext. 8 or by emailing her at
[email protected].
FEED AND BEDDING: Feed and bedding orders that are to be delivered
prior to arrival at the show must be mailed in with your entries. These
orders will be dropped in front of your stalls and disputes regarding
quantities will not be permitted. During the show, feed and bedding orders
must be placed before 11:00am for same day delivery. Deliveries from
outside feed companies and inter-competitor / trainer sales will not be
allowed.
GROUNDS FEE: A Grounds Fee of $45 per day will be charged for horses
that are showing that are not occupying a stall. Exception: Horses that pay
regular monthly board to the Horse Park at Woodside are exempt from
paying this fee.
SECTION ENTRY FEES: After showing in the first class of any section
requiring a section entry fee, no refunds will be given for scratching any
classes within the section for any reason.
PRIZE MONEY / AWARDS: Prize money checks will be mailed or handdelivered to the owner within 30 days after the show. NO PRIZE MONEY
WILL BE MAILED UNLESS THE SOCIAL SECURITY # OR TAX ID # OF
THE OWNER OR PAYEE IS LISTED ON THE ENTRY BLANK. All purses
and add-backs shall be divided as follows unless otherwise specified: 1st 30%, 2nd - 22%, 3rd - 15%, 4th - 12%, 5th - 11% and 6th - 10%. Ribbons
shall be awarded to eighth place in all regular classes and classics unless
otherwise stated.
NON-SHOWING FEE: Stalls will be available for non-showing horses only if
the show is not sold out after entry closing date. Horses stabled but not
entered in the show will be charged a $100 Non-Showing Fee.
RV PARKING: A limited number of RV spaces are available for $300 per
show, which includes water, electric and two pump-outs (see office for
pump-out schedule). Self-contained RVs without hook-ups will be charged
$100 per show. Reservations must be made on the entry form and payment
made in full when sending in the entry form.
RNE (Rode Not Entered): Entries that show in a class that was not
properly entered will be charged the class entry fee plus a $25.00 RNE Fee.
Starters are not responsible for keeping you out of classes you are not
entered in.
RETURNED CHECKS: Checks returned by the bank for any reason are
regarded as a most serious offense and will be handled according to the
following procedure: A 10% PENALTY WILL BE ASSESSED FOR EVERY
RETURNED CHECK (MINIMUM OF $50.00). Accounts will be given ten
(10) days to be paid in full with cash or cash equivalent or they will be
turned into the sanctioning organizations for further disciplinary action.
Repeat offenders in a given show year will be turned in immediately with no
7 day grace period.
EQUITATION ENTRIES: Equitation riders must wear the number of the
horse they are officially entered on. Numbers are assigned to horses, not
riders. If a rider wishes to change horses for an equitation class, they may
do so without penalty; however the proper paperwork must be completed in
the horse show office prior to the start of the class. Violations can result in
RDNE Fees, fines and charges being brought by the USEF Steward.
MINIMUM CLASS REQUIREMENTS: A minimum of three entries are
required to hold a class (exception: medal classes with other minimum
requirements). Regular classes with less than three entries may be
canceled, combined or held at management’s discretion. Prize money
classes with less than three entries may be canceled, combined or held at
management’s discretion.

PARKING AND TRAFFIC: All trucks, autos, golf carts and other motorized
vehicles must be parked in designated areas only. Vehicle traffic is a major
safety concern at horse shows. Vehicles must adhere to the maximum
speed limit of 10 miles per hour and must stay on the Horse Park roadways
at all times.
DOGS: Dogs are not permitted to be loose on competition grounds and
must be on a leash or otherwise contained. Individuals must not lead dogs
on a leash while mounted. Dog owners are solely responsible for any
damages, claims, losses or actions resulting from their dogs’ behaviors.
Dog owners failing to comply with this rule may be subject to penalty under
Chapters 6 and 7, as well as issuance of warning cards. In addition, show
management may institute a $50 fine for any loose dogs, per occurrence,
and reserves the right to impound loose dogs and / or summon Animal
Control at the owner’s expense.
CLOSED RINGS: Riders may not enter any ring marked as closed.
CONFLICTS: It is the intention of management to avoid holding rings to
wait for horses and riders. Riders with conflicts must arrange their jumping
order with the starters so that they will not hold up a class. Trainer conflicts
are not considered legitimate conflicts. Starters have the authority to
scratch horses and riders who are not timely or who do not follow their
instructions.
NON-U.S. EXHIBITORS: The legend “U.S. Funds” must be printed on the
face of any check drawn on a non-U.S. bank and used to pay any fees for
these shows. Entries received that do not adhere to this policy will be
returned. No exceptions.
MOTORIZED VEHICLES AND GOLF CARTS: Minors who do not have a
valid driver’s license which allows them to operate a motorized vehicle in
the state in which they reside will not be permitted to operate a motorized
vehicle of any kind including, but not limited to, golf carts, motorcycles,
scooters, or farm utility vehicles on the competition grounds of licensed
competitions. Minors who have a valid temporary license may operate the
above described motorized vehicles as long as they are accompanied by an
adult with a valid driver’s license. The parent(s), legal guardian(s), or
individual who signs the entry blank as a parent or guardian of a minor
operating a motorized vehicle in violation of this rule are solely responsible
for any damages, claims, losses or actions resulting from that operation.
Violations of this rule will be cause for sanctions against the parent(s),
gurardian(s) and/or trainer(s) who are responsible for the child committing
the offense. Penalties may include exclusion of the child, parent(s),
guardian(s), and/or trainer(s) from the competition grounds for the
remainder of the competition and charges being filed against any of the
above individuals in accordance with Chapter 6. Wheelchairs and other
mobility devices for individuals with disabilities are exempt from this rule.
ABUSE: Competitors who abuse horses will be eliminated by the judge and
may be subject to fines and/or penalties. Abuse includes, but is not limited
to, use of the whip four or more times in a row anywhere on a horse; use of
the whip even once in front of the horse’s shoulder; use of a whip so hard
that it leaves welts or marks on a horse’s body.
General Rules & Regulations
MEDICAL WASTE: In accordance with the 1989 Federal Waste Tracking
Act, which restricts the disposal of medical waste, and the rules of USEF,
Bio Hazardous Medical Waste Containers (Sharps boxes) will be provided
in the stable area. All exhibitors and their agents are responsible for the
proper disposal of their hazardous waste.

CROSS COUNTRY COURSES: Trails and galloping tracks are open to
competitors for hacking; helmets required. No jumping is allowed on the
cross country course unless you are a Horse Park at Woodside member.
From I-280 exit at Sand Hill Road and go west.
The entrance to the Horse Park is approximately
one-half mile on your right.
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: Alcoholic beverages of any kind may not be
consumed on the show grounds except when inside of RVs and at
scheduled horse show parties and special horse show functions that are
confined to a specific location.
TRAINER SPLITS: These shows offer a service that allows trainers to
have their tack stall, feed and bedding split evenly among their clients’
horse show bills by completing a Trainer Tack, Feed & Bedding Split Form.
Deadlines for filing Trainer Split Forms will be posted in the horse show
office. Please advise your clients that these charges will appear on their
show bill. Only dollar amounts will be split (not quantities) and totals will
be rounded up to the next whole dollar amount. Uncollected splits will
revert back to the trainer.

PROTECTIVE HEADGEAR: Except as may otherwise be mandated by
local law, the Federation strongly encourages all riders while riding
anywhere on the competition grounds, to wear protective headgear with
harness secured which passes or surpasses ASTM / SEI standards for
equestrian use and carries the SEI tag. It is the responsibility of the rider,
or the parent or guardian or trainer of the junior exhibitor to see to it that the
headgear worn complies with appropriate safety standards for protective
headgear intended for equestrian use, and is properly fitted and in good
condition, and the Federation, Show Committee, and Licensed Officials are
not responsible for checking headgear worn for such compliance.

Grooms may NOT arrive early to set-up stalls and move in
horses. The facility needs this time to clean stalls from the
previous event, deliver pre-orders of feed and bedding and
to prepare the stalls for our event. Early arrivals will be
turned away or forced to wait until stalls are ready!
