From Our President and Director Dear Society Friends and Members, As our county famers enter into the busy harvest season, our group too is hard at work fundraising, educating, and planning for our new facility. Thanks to all of you who supported our group at the Fulton County Fair with your time, talents, and treasures. I am glad to report that we have raised over $178,000 toward our million dollar Capital Campaign, and I look forward to seeing you at our banquet in October and our other events throughout the rest of 2015. So, Start shopping at Smile.amazon.com. TODAY! Carl Buehrer, President Teaching local, every-day stories to thousands of fair visitors helped them “walk in someone else’s shoes” and broke down stereotypes and generalities about history. Visitors may have initially entered our log cabin thinking, “life for women was rough in 1865.” But, someone in 2165 might look at our lives today and say, “life was rough when both parents were away from home every day.” We must not try to “improve” a visitor’s experience by hiding, editing, or sugar coating our county’s past. Jane Rupp, our new Manager of Operations Problems and obstacles in each generation have re-enacted the part of Lovina Butler in the Canfield Cabin during Tuesday (Ironing Day) changed and influenced the choices we are making today. To paraphrase Wendell Berry, of the Fulton County Fair. who spoke at the 2015 American Association of State and Local History Annual Meeting in Louisville this month, “Our mission is to explain the inevitabilities that have arisen from man’s imperfect and dark past, in order to make a more relevant and brighter future.” John Swearingen, Jr., Director Museum Hours till Thankgiving: Tuesdays - Fridays 10am - 4pm Saturdays 10am -2pm See Christmas Tour & Santa at the Depot Information for December Hours $4 General Admission $3 Seniors $2 Students Train Depot Tours scheduled through the Museum at closing time Saint Caspar Knights of Columbus Fish Fry Friday, October 2 4:30—7pm A percentage of the proceeds will be given to the Fulton County Historical Society PAGE 2 F U LT O N C O U N T Y P I O N E E R Heritage Alliance Events: Fulton County on Display in Columbus St. Caspar's Fish Fry (FCHS) Date/Time: Friday, October 2, 4:30—7:00pm Location: St. Caspar’s, Wauseon, OH Sauder Village All Aboard!
