From the President’s Desk
July has come and gone, and it’s still hot. I hope everyone is
enjoying their summer in spite of the weather.
July was a busy month for most of us. Sunday, July 4th, there
was a car show in McAdoo, hosted by the Anthracite Region
AACA. Mopar Madness took the Club Participation award again
this year. Some of our members won trophies, as well.
July 8th thru 11th was the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals. If you were
pre-registered, you could drive right into the show field without
stopping at the registration tent. That made entering the show field
much easier. We had several members take home trophy plaques
and Celebrity Picks. None of our members won the give-away car
or the engine, but the show was very enjoyable, and while the heat
was intense, we only had a little rain late Friday night.
July 17th & 18th I attended the PA Jeeps All-Jeep Show in York,
PA. More on that later in this issue.

Das Awkscht Fescht is coming up on August 6th through 8th in
Macungie Memorial Park.
Our next Mini-golf club event is scheduled for Tues, August 17,
tee off time 7 p.m. at Genetti’s. Another Club event for August is
“Night In The Country” at Northwestern Rec. Park on Saturday,
August 21st, raindate Aug 22nd. We will meet at 3:00 PM at the
Upper Macungie Park along Route 100 in Fogelsville, to cruise in
and park together. This is always a great community event,
featuring fun and games, good food, and some of the best
fireworks you’ll see. So come on out and join us for an evening of
fun. The car cruise fills up fast so get there early.

“Keep your motors cool”
June 27, 2010 (Sun) – Parma Pizza Summer Cruisin‟– 5925 Tilghman St, Kuhnsville
Parma Pizza, Kuhnsville, held their 1st summer cruise on June 27th with Elvis impersonator
Davy J as D.J. and performer. There were around 30 area cruisers who attended with
raffles, prizes, food, beverage, and ice cream specials all day, and with appearance by
Elmo for the kiddies. Parma’s cruises will be held the last Sunday of the month during the
summer months; next cruise scheduled for Aug 29, weather permitting.
July 3, 2010 (Sat) 3rd Annual L.V. Grandprix Rally for the RAACE Charity Show
649 S. 10th St, Allentown (RAACE Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to
eliminating the epidemic of child sexual abuse by raising public awareness)
Around 40 cruisers on a very hot & humid day showed up for this event (8 of them were our club Mopars). A
few of us spend some time inside the Grandprix, watching a few on the road course track. Cost per adult for 1
race is $17; 3 races @ $53 and so on. The highlight of the Show was the live music performed by the well
known local band “Flirtin’ with The Mob”, an 11 pc band with 2 main singers, with sounds of the 60’s,
70’s, and 80’s. The band has a 4 piece horn section, which includes 3 saxophones, 1 trombone, and Mopar
Madness member Larry Meixner on his trumpet. If you haven’t had the opportunity to hear this band in
person, you really are missing out! They are Grrreat!!! (Larry is the 4th one from the left in the photo below)
The show included dash plaques, goody bags, door prizes, top 25 awards, a 6 ft. trophy Best of Show award,
and a $100 award to the largest club participation. Of the 25 top plaque awards given at the show, 5 went to
the following Mopar Madness members: Wayne Clark, Josh Clark, Lamont Grim, Mike McHenry,
and Snip Reinbold. The Club Participation Award in the amount of $100 was also won by
Mopar Madness of the L.V. “Congratulations” and “Thank You” to the MMLV members who did
attend for a really good cause.

July 4, 2010 (Sun) – 25th Anniversary McAdoo Car Show – Hazleton PA
Even though McAdoo was not originally selected as one of the Club’s “go-to events” this year, a few of us
decided to attend. It was another hot day, but, it felt good at our usual spot under a large shade tree at the
playground. This year they placed a couple “For Sale” cars up in that area, but, they did not hinder us one bit.
Most people know that this annual show is held by the Anthracite Region of the Antique Auto Club of America.
Some of this year’s trophies were again sponsored in memory of deceased members of the Club. Once again,
Mopar Madness was the winner of the $25 club participation award. MMLV club members who won
trophies on that day were as follows:
 Class 1958-1960 1st Place = Snip Reinbold with his 1960 Chrysler Windsor 383
 Class 1961 – 1964 1st Place = Mark Souders with his 1962 Chrysler 300H

July 9-11, 2010 – All Chrysler Nationals – Carlisle
Fairgrounds
“It’s Like a Heatwave” or “Burn Baby Burn” is what immediately comes to mind at
this year’s Carlisle Event; especially Thursday, with the heat index around 102. The high
humidity finally broke a little on Friday. Thursday, only a few ventured on the Fairgrounds OR
attended the annual Carlisle Kickoff cruise event in the late afternoon, held by Mopar Rebellion
and sponsored by Cumberland Valley Motors in Mechnicsburg. George Hitchens and his

grandson, Jake, spent most of Thursday in the blazing heat, setting up a truck load of parts at Carlisle’s flea
market area. Fortunately, their efforts reportedly did pay off during the weekend.
At least 37 members, plus more with family, were spotted
sometime during the days event this year. Many club
members stayed again at the Days Inn-Carlisle and many
spent their afternoons cooling off in the pool. Evenings
were spent in a circle near the pool, talking about the day’s
events, while enjoying beverages and snacks. The best
time to browse the fairground flea markets & vendors, or,
take in the building exhibits was during the mornings and
then sack out under the tents by noon or 1 pm.
Friday and Saturday, some of the ladies enjoyed foot and
body massages offered in the Oasis Tent. Friday afternoon
a few ventured over to the Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way (formerly know as the South Mountain Dragway) where
Bob Zelko, tried out his 2009 Dodge Hemi Challenger, Derek Murashak and his Neon & former member Herbie
Hottenstein, all once again participated in the Trophy challenge.

< Pic at left is Mr. Norm Kraus around 1960. Mr. Norm became known as the "King of Hi
Performance." Norm revolutionized how performance cars were sold and went so far as to create such
vehicles as the prototype 383 Dart that became the prototype for the factory 383 Dart GTS, and, in
1968 he developed the first 440 Dart GSS that became the prototype for the factory M Code 440 Dart
GTS, both of which were later put into production by Chrysler. Along with Gary Dyer, he pioneered
"Funny Car" racing to keep his performance department on the leading edge without directly
competing at the drag strip with his customers. With this kind of commitment offering the most
powerful Dodge’s in the country, it’s no surprise that Mr. Norm’a legacy endures today. In 1963, he
became owner of Grand Spaulding Dodge in Chicago and later expanded the dealership. In 1972, Mr.
Norm created the Supercharged 340 Demon GSS, a super high performance muscle car that offered big block power in a
small package. In 1974, Grand Spaulding Dodge became Number One, the largest volume Dodge dealership in the world.
In 1977, Mr. Norm sold his ownership in Grand Spaulding Dodge. In 1989, he was inducted into the Mopar Hall of Fame.
In 1996, Mr. Norm was inducted into the A/FX Funny Car Hall of Fame. In 2004, he introduced the Mr Norm Sport Club.

July 17-18, 2010 (Sat-Sun) 15th Annual All Breed Jeeps Show – York Fairgrounds, PA
Exclusive Jeep Show-n-Shine – Write up & pics submitted by Club Pres Mark Souders
My son, Matt, and I took our Jeeps to the All-Breeds Jeep Show in York, hosted by PA Jeeps Club of
York, PA. Matt in his „87 Wrangler and I in my „79 CJ7, left early Saturday morning and headed for York. We
arrived at the fairgrounds to find a huge gathering of all types of Jeeps. By mid-day Saturday, there were 625
Jeeps of all shapes and sizes, ranging from a few military Jeeps built by Bantam, Willys, & Ford, all the way up
to brand new Wranglers and Grand Cherokees. There was also a rare Forward Control Jeep pickup built

around 1957 or 58. There were a few full size J10 and Gladiator pickups, and a nice all-original Comanche with
47,000 miles. There were also many vendors selling almost anything imaginable for Jeeps. We saw some neat
customizing tricks and some unusual tricks, as well. There were food vendors also, but unlike Carlisle, their
prices were reasonable.
The most popular spot on the show grounds was the obstacle course. There was a dirt course with a log
bridge, some steep inclines, and a mud hole big enough to swallow a Toyota. After the courageous navigated
the dirt course, they could climb the rock course. They said a stock Jeep could climb over those rocks, but it
really looked rough. Matt actually took his Jeep through the course without breaking anything. My Jeep stayed
on the show field where many Jeepers were filling out their Participants Judging forms.
Sunday morning was similar to Carlisle – participants lined up to check out the winners list. Much to my
surprise, my Jeep was selected first place in the CJ7 Stock class. There were so many great looking Jeeps
in my class, I was shocked that I got a trophy, let alone first place. There were a total of twelve classes, and
each class was divided into stock, modified, and extreme. Each division had first, second, and third place. All
the first place winners had to park in a separate section for pictures and were lined up for the winners’ parade.
After the parade, there were door prize drawings. The prizes included Jeep accessories, gift certificates, highlift jacks, and winches. A lot of high dollar stuff.
The PA Jeeps Club put on a first rate show. Their members were very well organized and they executed a
great show. If you have any interest in Jeeps or are curious about
the Jeep camaraderie, this is a show
you can’t miss. The weather was hot
and the Jeeps were cool.
