Perhaps you enjoy the challenge of hitting a small ball with a long stick. Maybe you enjoy the beautiful surroundings or spending time outdoors with family, friends and colleagues. Something about getting on the golf course if you love golf is a reward in itself and to play well is even better. For some other folks getting back to the golf course can be a triumph in itself. Consider someone who is rehabbing from suffering a stroke. Once simply enjoying golf with his friends and now struggling to regain mobility and as much normal life as possible. For another after being in a severe car accident just getting back together with friends that he played with on a regular basis helps in the long road to recovery. High school golf starts this week and for the students it is a chance to compete and test their skills. For a few of the more accomplished players it is possibly a chance for a scholarship. At the least it is a chance to make some personal achievements and make friends along the way. Whether winning or losing being part of a team is a good thing and to work together for a common goal is a good experience. For the younger golfers it can be an opportunity to play that their parents didn’t have at an early age. For parents and grandparents the chance to play with children and grandchildren is a great time together. You are never too old to start playing golf. We recently had a visitor to the driving range who will be 3 years old in December. Safety is of utmost importance when young people are around golf. If you can golf safely maybe you are never too young to start also. Best wishes for your golf season. If you would like help with your golf game please contact me at [email protected] and find me at the Fern Hall Inn Golf Course and the Lakeland Golf Club in Fleetville. The resilience and longevity is impressive enough as is the expansion of fiber optics and broadband service that brings the local communities faster and better internet and video services. NEP Telephone also gives back to the community in a big way. Should you attend virtually any community event you will notice their presence. Recently completed, the Festival of Lights featured fireworks that were sponsored by NEP. Also, the Thompson fireworks were again sponsored by NEP. If you have had the opportunity to visit Kennedy Park lately you will have noticed many improvements. There is now a Wi-Fi hotspot at the park and additional lighting of which NEP was instrumental in providing also. One of the highlights of the summer is the Harford Fair. Free Wi-Fi is available there, again thanks to the folks at NEP. Through fishing derbies and car shows NEP contributes and sponsors these and many events which enhance the quality of life in our com- munities. In conjunction with the Lions Club, the Forest City Library is also a recipient of donated labor and services. Not that far away will be the Christmas season and you will notice the NEP service vehicles and employees hanging the Christmas lights and banners not only in Forest City but in many communities. NEP CEO Steven Tourje said he enjoys supporting programs for the younger people. NEP has been a loyal sponsor of the junior golf programs at both Fern Hall Inn and the Elkview Country Club. A casual golfer himself, Mr. Tourje and his father also enjoy rallying their antique car on rather long journeys across the United States. An employer of 42 women and men, NEP is one of the pillars of our community in many ways. If you have ever needed help from one of their service people, you undoubtedly have found them to be very knowledgeable, professional and courteous. Thank you NEP Telephone Company for all you do for our community. Wishing you a Happy Birthday and many more to come.
