Knightsbridge started in 2013. The competition was
set up to develop furniture which reflects the
growing need for design lead hospital interiors, which
improve the healing process for all ages and actively

• Patient transfer model benefits from a sturdy push handle
and 75mm diameter braked castors for manoeuvrability.
An adjustable footplate provides support in transit while
an optional lap belt ensures patient safety.

A manual push on the back provides a simultaneous footrest and
back movement
Tilt In Space
The tilt in space mechanism allows you to independently adjust the
position of the backrest and to tilt the chair backwards and forwards
moving the leg rest at the same time avoiding shearing of the back
and the hips. Once the leg rest is all the way down it will rise to aid
in standing.
Single Motor
Kintyre Manual Recliner
The seat and back of this particular mechanism has a fixed angle
that doesn’t change during the recliner movement as the seat tilts
with the back as the footrest is extending allowing the user to have
full and total support avoiding shearing of the back and hips.
Dual Motor
The Dual mechanism has two motors that will independently drive
the back and foot rest but will still bring the chair to a near standing
position. The user has total control of the exact movement to the
angle of recline on the backrest and the footrest i.e. the footrest can
be elevated and the back remain in an upright position. The control is
totally independent of each other enabling the user to achieve their
own individual position of comfort for relaxing.

4 Motor System
This mechanism has been designed and built to cope with weights of
up to 70 stone and severe fluid retention. The rise/recline movement
is controlled by individual motors with the seat lift having 2-motors
that are synchronised to ensure user comfort and safety.
Trendelenberg
The Trendelenberg action allows the recliner to move with
independent back and footrest movement to lay flat on the back
(supine position) with the feet higher than the head by 15-30
degrees.

• Manual recline system incorporates a unique-pull cord
mechanism designed by Knightsbridge which can be grapsed
at any point along the cord and pulled in any direction to
operate the back recline. It can also be pulled on to assist the
patient in returning to the upright position.

Interface Pressure Mapping Trial
Correct posture is one of the most important
factors in preventing the development of pressure
ulcers. Sitting correctly ensures that weight is
evenly distributed and shearing forces are reduced.
The pressure maps below illustrate the
amount of pressure sitting on a conventional
CMHR seat cushion (map 1), compared with
a Reflexion seat cushion (map 2) after a
period of 16 minutes.

Fabric choice is a crucial element in protecting patients, visitors
and healthcare professionals from Hospital-Acquired
Infections. Knightsbridge Furniture is able to offer you a wide
choice of soft fabrics and vinyls specially designed to cope
with the demands of healthcare environments, whilst offering
a broad choice of colours and styles. Knightbridge stock fabrics
meet BS5852 part 2 crib 5 flame retardancy.
Types of fabric
Vinyl:
Vinyl is practical, low maintenance and is available in a wide
range of colours and textures. Durable, fire retardant and
liquid repellent, our stock vinyl ranges incorporate antimicrobial ingredients to kill a wide range of bacteria,
including MRSA and e-coli and are resistant to many common
stains, including urine, mild alkalis/acids, beverages and most
common household stains.
Soft Waterproof Fabrics:
Available in a wide spectrum of colours and designs, soft
waterproof fabrics can be used to create relaxing
environments without compromising the need for
waterproof coverings. Integral anti-microbial ingredients
make the fabrics effective against bacteria (including MRSA
and e-coli).
Soft Fabrics:
Where usage is less severe, soft covers can create a more
domestic environment and offer a wide selection of designs.
Wood Finishes
Choose from our selection of wood finishes (available on all
our ranges unless specified otherwise), which include
Hygiene+ anti-microbial protection to kill bacteria 24 hours
a day.

All visible polished wooden frames are manufactured from European
Beech. However you can select a wood finish to complement your
fabric choice or overall scheme. Alternatively you can supply a
sample for us to match to.
As all products are manufactured to order it is extremely important
that the order acknowledgement is checked for accuracy and that
any discrepancies are notified to our Customer Service Team on
