Ecolabel For guidance when you formulate with our products according to Ecolabel criteria Ecolabel guide Ecolabel is a voluntary scheme established in 1992 to encourage businesses to market products and services that are kinder to the environment. The main purpose of this Ecolabel brochure is to help you formulate cleaning products according to Ecolabel criteria. To guide you using our products, you will find a table containing the following information: • • • • • Active content [%] of our products DID-number for products included in the DID-list part A Calculated value for Df/Tf for products as such (concentration of active matter is considered) Biodegradability of surfactants (readily and anaerobic biodegradability) Risk phrases (R) and Hazard Statement (H) The brochure contains a short description of each cleaning product category and the important criteria for each group, related to our range of products, are summarized below. You will also find explanations and example on how to calculate the Critical Dilution Volume (CDV) using the data present in the table. This document should be considered as a guideline (or living document), which can be changed when additional information is available. Ready biodegradability (aerobic) Each surfactant used in the product shall be readily biodegradable Assessment: 1) DID-list part A shall be used; 2) if not included, at least 60% biodegradability within 28 days in OECD 301, B, C, D, F must be reached b. In all these formulations polycarboxylates (DID-No 116) can be used. The quantity of carboxylates is only limited by the CDVchronic of the product and the content of aNBO and/or anNBO in this final product. How to calculate • The DID-No of the products included in the part A of the DID-list can be found in the tables on the following two pages. The values for toxicity and biodegradability in the DID-list have been used to calculate the Df/Tf (product as is) of those substances. • For the products that are not in the part A of the DID-list, the procedure described in the part B has been used to establish the biodegradability and the toxicity values. To calculate the Df/Tf (product as is) validated test results have been used. • The Critical Dilution Volume (CDV)(i) is calculated for each substance using the following equation: CDV(i) = Weight(i) * Df/Tf(product as is)(i) * 1000 • The Df/Tf (product as is)(i) given in the table is a calculated value for the product as such (active matter [%] is considered). The value can simply be multiplied by the concentration of product in your formulation. Example: your formulation contains 6% of AG 6206 =>CDV(AG 6206) = 6 (g/100 g product) * 0,28 * 1000 = 1680 litres (AG 6206 has an active matter of 75%; the active content [%] has been taken into account in the calculation of the Df/Tf (product as is)(i); 0,28 for AG 6206) If you have any problems to calculate the Critical Dilution Volume (CDV) or if you have any questions, please contact your AkzoNobel sales representative or your distributor.
