HOW IT WORKS
An electric fence only becomes a circuit when there is contact
between the fence and the ground at the same time, ie; when an
animal touches it. The energiser sends an electrical pulse to the
fence at 1 second intervals which is carried along the conductors.
If an animal touches the fence it is acting as a switch allowing the
pulse to travel through it to the ground and back to the energiser
via the earth rod, thus completing the circuit and giving the animal
a mild corrective shock.
MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER
The Energiser
Your energiser must have enough energy to power
the whole length of your fence arid to deliver a
shock if an animal touches rt. We recommend that
you choose an energiser which will power your
fence in the worst conditions.
The Earth Connection
Often overlooked it is the most important part of
your fence after the energiser as. if not installed
correctly the animals will not feel any shock.
Depending on the type and conditions of the soil
it may require several earth rods linked together to
achieve an efficient earth connection.

The Insulators
Broken or cracked insulators can cause accidental
power leakage from your fence which again will
result in little or no shock being felt by an animal.
Conductors must never be tied directly to wooden
fence posts or rails.
The Conductors
The tapes, ropes and polywires contain wires
made from either stainless steel, galvanised steel
or tin-plated copper. The number and type of
these wires can make quite a difference to the
performance of your fence. Tin-plated copper has
the least resistance and is the best conductor of
electricity followed by galvanised steel second
and then stainless steel which has the highest
resistance of the three. It is important to select
the right conductor for your particular fence and
we recommend that you study our guides before
making your choice.

CHOOSING YOUR ENERGISER
The effectiveness of an energiser varies according to the
length and condition of your fence, the quality of earthing,
the amount of vegetation and of course— the weather.
Consider the following before making your selection.
1.What is the actual length of the fence?
(ignoring the number of lines required).
2.What will the ongoing conditions be?
Low Vegetation: Very little or no vegetation - well maintained,
professionally constructed with good quality conductors
and insulators.
Average Vegetationg some vegetation on the line,
ageing fence but in good order.
Heavy Vegetation: Older fence, heavy vegation, some broken
insulators, exposed to bad weather.
3.What power supply is preferred?
D-Cell, 9v, 12v battery or mains powered.
If you are concerned about the ongoing maintenance of your
fence then for complete peace of mind choose an energiser
to power your fence in poor conditions. You may also want to
allow for future extension of the fence.

This range gives an ideal solution for portability
either at home or away - with four different
models to choose from you will not be lacking
in power on your fence! Variable power * allows
even the most powerful of the range to emit

recuperation of any unused energy on the line

The Number, Height & Spacing Of Electric Fence Wires
There is no definitive rule s5 to the number of wires needed on an electric fence, nor the heiht
and spacing they car be set at as each site can be unique and animals do vary in size and
temperament. Often, a single electrified wire is enough to contain a docile animal.
II an animal does pass through an electric fence it is usually because either a) it did not touch
any electrified wire dr there was insufficient power on the fence to deter it. In the first
instance you would need to increase the number of wires on the fence, arid in the second you
would need to check the quality of the earthing, the power of the energizer arid the type of
conductor you are using.
When enacting a fence for your animals consider where the animal is least insulated, or where
current is most likely to he able to penetrate then- fur and set lines accordingV
