Check out the fitness and exercise classes being offered at your Panorama Hills e-Community Centre, including an exciting new Pilates Fusion class we are introducing this winter. We have also revamped our kids’ dance program with some new offerings and pricing. Be sure to check out all of the details on pages 4 & 5. Registration for 2015 Santa Visit and Sleigh Ride - Saturday, Decem- winter programs begins on Monday, December 8 @ 6:30pm at the ber 20 10am - noon at the Panorama Hills e-Community Centre. Registration will be based on a Panorama Hills efirst come, first served basis. Be sure to read this newsletter for Community Centre all of the program options. Please remember to stay off the ice while we are flooding and to only toboggan in the designated area (hay bales). Don’t forget that on Family Day we will once again be celebrating with a horse drawn wagon ride in the park (weather permitting) from noon to 2pm. Be sure to bring the whole family to the e-Centre and celebrate Family Day on Monday, February 16. If you haven’t done so already, be sure to check out our new website. It is a sleek new look and is mobile friendly. Visit www.mypanoramahills.com to see the new site and remember, to receive occasional email updates on news and happenings at the eCentre or within the community of Panorama Hills, you have to sign up on the homepage. If you signed up to receive these emails prior to July 1, 2014 you will have to sign up again as we adhere to the new Anti-Spam Legislation. PANORAMIC PERSPECTIVES PAGE 2 PLAY SCHOOL PROGRAM The Play School Program at the Panorama Hills e-Community Centre has been hugely successful since its inception 8 years ago. Our loving teachers, the abundant park space, and multitude of activities makes the Play School program at the Panorama Hills e-Community Centre very popular. The bright, spacious room, fully fenced park, and park amenities makes the Panorama Hills e-Community Centre the ideal location for a Play School program. Our play school offers arts & crafts, cooking, baking, science, songs, and story time activities with themes that focus on fostering the developmental growth of your child(ren). Our teachers are experienced individuals who enjoy working with children of all ages. They are loving, dedicated and looking forward to meeting you and your child. Parents Please Note: This is NOT a licensed preschool but rather an eleven week PROGRAM for children ages 3 - 5. Post dated cheques for the ENTIRE session must be provided at the time of registration. Child’s birth certificate must also be produced at the time of registration for age verification. Children MUST be the age of 3 BEFORE the first class AND FULLY POTTY TRAINED - NO EXCEPTIONS. THIS IS A MEMBERS ONLY PROGRAM. NO REFUNDS ARE ISSUED FOR THIS PROGRAM UNLESS DUE TO A MEDICAL CONDITION AND SUPPORTED BY A DOCTOR’S NOTE. Due to the popularity of this program we are NOT accepting registrations for the winter or spring sessions. We are placing children on waitlists at this time. In spring 2015 we will be registering for the fall 2015 session that will be open to all members on a first come, first served basis. Those registered in the fall sessions will have priority registration for the winter and spring sessions. If you would like to place your child(ren) on a waitlist for the upcoming winter and/or spring sessions please contact the Panorama Hills e-Community Centre at 403-226-4FUN (4386). We teach drawing, the fundamental skill of all visual arts. We look forward to an exciting year of classes at Panorama Hills. Our innovative, step-by-step curriculum and engaging subject matter will show your child that drawing can be fun and interesting! During our once-a-week classes, we teach skills that will help them grow, develop and excel while your child creates memories that will last a lifetime. Your child will enjoy ALL NEW LESSONS each week! Pre-School Drawing Classes (ages 3 ½ to 5) Young students are so eager to learn, and a joy to teach. Young Rembrandts instructors provide a nurturing and strong learning environment that expands Pre-schoolers’ image vocabulary as they draw familiar images. We’ll concentrate on the skills of drawing and coloring while we develop fine motor skills, focus, listening, staying on task, patience and spatial organization. Date: Wednesday, January 7 (Wednesdays - 8 weeks) Time: 11:00am - 11:45am Ages: 3 ½ - 5 Cost: $90.00 + GST Elementary Drawing Classes (ages 6 – 12) Our elementary-age curriculum is designed to teach basic to advanced drawing skills, art techniques and vocabulary. We believe that drawing is the bedrock skill required for future artistic success. We give them skills to express their creativity, and believe that all children can – and should – learn to draw. We provide all materials and teach new lessons each week in a positive and nurturing environment, which brings out the best in each child. You’ll see increased art abilities, learning skills, self-confidence and self-esteem. Date: Monday, January 5 (Mondays - 8 weeks) Time: 5:00pm - 6:00pm Ages: 6 - 12 Cost: $100.00 + GST Cartoon Drawing Classes (ages 6 – 12) Learning to draw can be fun, especially when we create silly characters, funny expressions and drawing sequences that tell a joke! This delightful program combines Young Rembrandts’ innovative, step-by-step drawing method with light-hearted subject matter that engages children, their sense of humor, and their vivid imaginations. Date: Thursday, January 8 (Thursdays - 8 weeks) Time: 5:00pm - 6:00pm Ages: 6 - 12 Cost: $100.00 + GST PANORAMIC PERSPECTIVES PAGE 4 KIDS’ DANCE By Artists in Motion Artists in Motions was created by Gillian Howatt and Diana Radcliffe. Together they have over 20 years experience in the arts and provide quality dance education to young children. Their mission is to provide a fun, safe and nurturing environment where children of all ages and abilities can learn, appreciate and thrive in the performing art of dance. Gillian Howatt is the successful studio owner and director of Counterpoint Dance Academy (www.counterpointdance.com). Gillian is a graduate of Ryerson University in Toronto where she attained her Theatre of Canada certificate as well as her Royal Academy of Dance teacher’s certificate. Gillian is also recognized by the Canadian Educational Institution, which meets the Canadian Government’s guidelines of an accredited education facility. Diana Radcliffe has taught alongside Gillian for the past 8 years following a professional tour around the world. Diana played the role of Ariel from The Little Mermaid at Tokyo Disneyland, where she enjoyed interacting with all of the excited young children. Diana has also received many choreography awards and top scoring routines. She is an exceptional teacher with a sincere passion for working with children. Rock with Your Tot: Ages 18 months - 2 years OR 2 - 3 years (separate classes): Parent and tot classes allow parents to be an integral part of their children’s growth and develop in a safe and exciting atmosphere. We focus on developing rhythm, coordination, motor skills, and a love for dance and movement. This dance class is for you and your busy and active tot! ONE PARENT PER CHILD ONLY. Crafty Caterpillars: Ages 3 and 4 years: Offers children ages 3 & 4 a nice introduction to the fine arts as it includes singing, dancing, story time & crafts. Something for everyone & will keep your little one on his/her toes. Our mission is to instill self confidence, creativity, social skills & team work in all of our participants through the many forms of activities introduced in this class. Disney Make-Believe: Ages 3 and 4 years: The magical world of dance is introduced through this enchanting class. Dress up as your favourite princess or prince and dance away to a fairy tale land! This class utilizes the beginning stages of ballet and creative movement while placing emphasis on coordination, musicality, and most of all instilling the love of dance! Non-parented class. Tiny Toes Ballet: Ages 4 and 5 years: This is a wonderful program that introduces children to classical ballet. This class teaches the foundation of ballet, while working on rhythm, coordination, discipline, listening skills, and musicality. A wonderful way to begin a love for dance, and to have fun! Non-parented class. Glee Club: Ages 6 - 9 years: This fun class combines singing, dancing and acting as they come together to create mini musicals from popular TV and Broadway shows! A very popular and fun filled class! Non-parented class. Tween Hip Hop: Ages 10 - 13: This class offers a wonderful introduction to Hip Hop! Dancers will learn the latest moves to today’s popular music! This class is for all kids who love to move & groove and who enjoy a fast paced, high-energy class. Each class will include a warm up, across the floor & a fun combo!!! ABS, BUTTS, AND THIGHS CORE CLASS Shahinda is back with her hour long class specially designed to hit every CORE muscle including lower back & hips! This class is the evolution of Pilates exercises fusing stretching, strength and core postures to enhance your core conditioning. This class moves at a slower pace – allowing time to connect with and absorb each pose. Many options will be given throughout the class to suit all levels. Pranayama (breathing) and meditation techniques will also be introduced. This class will promote stress relief, relaxation and overall wellbeing. It will help them understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and constructively occupied. Upon the completion of this program, each child will to able to: - Identify the consequences of decisions and actions made in daily life. - Follow safety procedures and describe ways to obtain emergency help. - Demonstrate knowledge of how to use 911 correctly through role-play and by stating situations when it is appropriate to call 911. - Review basic first aid procedures. Certification: Each course graduate is presented with a certificate after successfully completing the program. The Canada Safety Council has been a leader in babysitter training since 1970. The Babysitters’ Training Course is the oldest and most recognized course in Canada. Over a half a million young people have been trained across the country. The Babysitters’ Training Course is aimed at young people 11/12 years of age or older. It’s tried, tested and true. Since 2009, a new Software has emerged that is an alternative to PowerPoint. It’s called Prezi. In this 4 hour class, we will go over the basics to creating a PowerPoint Presentation and a Presentation using Prezi to see the benefits of both. Bring your Laptop. It is a Hands On class. Prezi is an online tool, therefore we will all have access to it. If you do not have PowerPoint, not to worry. You can watch and gain valuable information! Please note that as a resident of Panorama Hills/Hanson Ridge you are now living in a community with a mandatory residents association fee which is listed as an encumbrance on your land title. We understand that moving is a big event and you are probably full of questions about your new neighbourhood and your membership in the Northstar Residents Associaton and we would like to help. WINTER 2015 NEWS & NOTES PAGE 12 FAMILY SLEIGH RIDE AND SANTA VISIT SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20 10AM - NOON There is no better way to get into the spirit of the season than enjoying a horse drawn sleigh ride in the park and a visit from Santa himself. Join us on Saturday, December 20 from 10am - noon at the Panorama Hills e-Community Centre for a free sleigh ride, visit from Santa, hot chocolate and seasonal festiveness! Make sure you bring your camera! Please note that if the temperature is below minus 20 with wind chill the sleigh ride will be cancelled. This is a FREE event for members of the Norsthstar Residents Association, but we ask that you please bring a non-perishable food donation for the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank. FAMILY DAY MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16 NOON - 2:00PM Join us at the Panorama Hills e-Community Centre on Family Day for a family sleigh ride, treats, refreshments, onsite entertainment and more from noon to 2pm. Bring your skates and enjoy a family skate on the skating pond (weather permitting) or bring the toboggan. With a little help from Mother Nature the Panorama Hills e-Community Centre is the place to be for outdoor fun for the whole family on Family Day. All outdoor events are weather permitting. Sleigh ride will be cancelled if temperature is below minus 20 with wind chill. This is a FREE event for members of the Northstar Residents Association. A nonperishable food donation for the food bank is greatly appreciated. Registration MUST be done in person at the Panorama Hills e– Community Centre. All registration is based on a first come, first served basis. FULL payment must be made at the time of registration. Payment methods accepted are DEBIT, CHEQUE, and CASH. Please note: CASH is not accepted for HOA Fee payments for security purposes. CREDIT CARD payments ARE NOT accepted. A refund may be requested PRIOR to the start of a program. However, once a program has started refunds will only be issued if due to a medical reason and accompanied by a doctor’s note. ALL refunds will be subject to a $10.00 administration charge and prorated if required. Some programs (Play School, Summer Day Camps, etc.) have different refund and payment policies. Please ensure you read the registration forms carefully and/or ask staff for information.
