The Cask interior has been thoroughly charred. When used to age Yamazaki malts, the charred white oak imparts an elegant aroma and sweet vanilla flavour. Smaller than other types, these 180-litre barrels are more susceptible to the surrounding atmosphere and produce whiskies distinctive to the region where they have been aged. • • • • • • No age statement None – chill filtered ABV % : 48% Cask type : Bourbon Wood type : American White Oak Volume : 700ml Yamazaki Bourbon Barrel is a superior single malt whisky made from carefullyselected Yamazaki malts. The whisky is nurtured in Bourbon barrels and stored in ageing cellars in Japan’s Yamazaki and Oumi regions until it reaches the peak of maturity. It is in these regions that nature paints a changing backdrop with a palette of seasonal colours and the warm, moist climate slowly matures the whisky. The result is a distinctively Japanese whisky with an uncommon aroma and smooth, lingering, sweet flavour that only a Bourbon barrel can impart. Try it neat for a taste experience that will last a lifetime. Tasting Notes Colour: dark amber Nose: tropical fruit, vanilla caramel Palate: robust, smooth Finish: slightly sweet, pleasantly lingering Suntory single malt whisky [Yamazaki Puncheon] Product infomation 480L • • • • • • No age statement None – chill filtered ABV % : 48% Cask type : Puncheon Wood type : American White Oak Volume : 700ml Since it began making whisky in Japan in 1923, the Yamazaki distillery has taken exceptional care over the selection of the right casks needed to craft its wide variety of single malt whiskies. A broad range of casks are made by the distillery’s own skilled craftsmen. Among them is the Puncheon, a stout, 480-litre cask which nurtures the new-make spirit as it matures over the years. Inside the oak Puncheon the area of whisky per litre that comes into contact with the wood is small compared with the typical 180-litre Bourbon barrel or 230-litre hogshead. Thus, the natural process proceeds slowly. The unique characteristics of the Puncheon cask make it perfectly suited to the mist-shrouded Yamazaki region. Our expert coopers fashion the edge grain Northern American white oak using time-honoured techniques. The Puncheon is the essential ingredient that gives Yamazaki single malt whisky its unique balance of sweet flavours and deep rich aromas, loved the world over. Bottle at 48% ABV, Yamazaki Puncheon single malt whisky is made to be enjoyed neat. We invite you to savour the rich aromas and sweet coconut and vanilla flavour that only a Puncheon cask can deliver. Tasting Notes Colour: gold Nose: peach, honey, vanilla Palate: slightly sweet, smooth Finish: slightly sweet, clean Suntory Single Malt Whisky Yamazaki [Sherry Cask] Product information Whisky distilling in Japan starts with Shinjiro Torii who made Japan’s first whisky at the Yamazaki distillery in 1923. In the autumn of the following year he put the new-made, pot-still whisky into casks. The first cask to be stored in the Yamazaki warehouse was made from Spanish sherry oak barrels. From this small beginning Shinjiro Torii built the foundations for the high quality Suntory whiskies of today. The sherry cask that has matured this Yamazaki whisky was made from Spanish oak, in Spain, to Suntory’s exacting specifications. The casks are filled with Oloroso sherry and seasoned over three years as the sherry matures. Subsequently, when used for ageing whisky, the tannins and other polyphenols contained in the oak imbue the spirit with a darker reddish hue than is found with commonly-used American white oak casks. • • • • • • No age statement None – chill filtered ABV % : 48% Cask type : Sherry Cask Wood type : Spanish Oak Volume : 700ml The traditional sherry cask is thus the cradle in which all Yamazaki single malt whiskies are nurtured. We invite you to sit back and enjoy its rich, fruity aromas and the excellent balance of sweet and sour flavours, all courtesy of carefully-selected Spanish oak. Tasting Notes Colour: deep bronze Nose: raisin, dried fruit, dark chocolate Palate: sweet & sour, heavy, pleasantly bitter Finish: sweet & sour, pleasantly bitter and lingering Suntory Single Malt Whisky Yamazaki [Mizunara] Product information • • • • • • No age statement None – chill filtered ABV % : 48% Cask type : Mizunara Wood type : Japanese Mizunara Oak Volume : 700ml Yamazaki Mizunara is part of the Yamazaki limited edition single malts series, designed so that whisky lovers may discover the amazing variety of unblended whiskies created by Suntory at the Yamazaki distillery. Suntory began to use homegrown Mizunara, a type of Japanese oak, after the Second World War when supplies of foreign oak were difficult to source. Mizunara was a far from ideal material. Its loose grain and tendency for casks to leak created many problems with timber selection and cooperage. Blenders had few kind words to say about Mizunara at the time. Now, decades later, the hints of sandalwood and aloes wood imparted by the casks are winning the acclaim of overseas blenders and whisky aficionados. We are sure you will enjoy the complex Oriental fragrance and lingering aftertaste of this uniquely Japanese single malt whisky. Tasting Notes Colour: reddish amber Nose: aloes wood, incense, cinnamon, coconut Palate: smooth, with a rich sweetness Finish: richly sweet, with a pleasant lingering aftertaste
