CHICAGO GOODMAN THEATRE
Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden defined beauty standards for
the first half of the 20th Century. Brilliant innovators with humble
roots, both were masters of self-invention who sacrificed everything
to become the country’s first major female entrepreneurs. They were
also fierce competitors, whose 50-year tug-of-war would give birth to
an industry. From Fifth Avenue society to the halls of Congress, their
remarkable rivalry was ruthless, relentless and legendary—pushing
both women to build international empires in a world dominated by
men. Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole go head-to-head in this
World Premiere musical about two legendary women who forever
changed the business of beauty. Don’t miss this World Premiere musical

THANK YOU
As my son drove me through the North Gate and along Carillon Drive,
I was HOME and the tears came quietly – 5 weeks medically away
from Carillon and your great people is a long time – it is great to be
home.
Thanks to everyone for your prayers, your lovely cards, the telephone
calls, beautiful flowers and the Super handmade poster that so many of
you signed. It created quite an event in the hospital and rehab center as
I had it on display in my window!
I am progressing well and still doing rehab. Thanks again for your
loving thoughts – you lifted my down time to the highest level
Anne McAleavy
THANK YOU
To my dear Crafty Crafters – Thank you for the most beautiful hand
made shawl and for all my dear friends in Carillon for all the cards,
sympathy and love shown to my family, Charlie and me. Charlie knew
so many of you as I do. We both love you all. Charlie still loves you
even in death.

CLUB NEWS & VIEWS
SUPPORT GROUP MEETING FOR
CAREGIVERS, FAMILIES, AND ANYONE
LIVING WITH ALZHEIMER’S and
DEMENTIAS
TIME: 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Third Thursday of the Month
At The Ceramics Room in the Club House
If you are caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or a related Dementia,
you are invited to join our support group. Here in a friendly supportive
environment you can participate in discussions geared toward the
needs and interests of individuals who are caregivers, family members,
or friends of someone with dementias. It is a chance to learn more
about dementias and what to expect along the way.
Those with the dementia are also welcome if they are able to sit in the
discussions and benefit from the group. They do not have to enter the
discussions if they are not comfortable or able to do so.
Our support group is an opportunity to learn from and share with
others who are experiencing the same situations in their interactions
with someone with dementia. A support group helps individuals
understand that they are not alone in their situation and that others
do understand and can often offer suggestions that may help. And it is
comforting to know someone will listen and understand.
For more information please call the facilitator ARLENE ALBERT at
815-744-6770.
In the Midst of Grief
The journey of grief after loss is one of life’s most difficult experiences,
but we don’t have to walk alone. If you are grieving the death of a
loved one, please consider joining Carillon’s bimonthly support group
for bereaved adults and discover the healing process within a safe,
supportive and confidential environment. The group will provide
time to share stories, process emotions, learn new coping skills and
self-care practices. The sessions are facilitated by Heartland Hospice
Bereavement Counselor and Carillon resident, Kathy Jarman.
CARILLON CHORUS NEWS
The Carillon Chorus directed by Faylene McDowell and
conducted by Laverne Budilovsky, rested for a week in May,
2016, after an explosive, musical trip across the FIFTY, NIFTY,
UNITED STATES. ( We hope you liked our show!)
June is time to concentrate on preparations for celebrating our
country’s birthday, The glorious 4th of July!! Patriotic melodies
floating through the halls of Carillon Club will inspire many
passing listeners to “sing along”! And of course, remind folks to
buy their tickets in time for the Honor America Breakfast!
The Carillon Chorus is always looking for new singers to join
our lusty group! If you love music and want to help us sing, just
stop in on Thursday night or call a Chorus member to see about
becoming one yourself!!

Words to Move You
America is not just a power. It is a promise.
It is not enough for our country to be
extraordinary in might; it must be exemplary
in meaning. Our honor and our role in the
world finally depend on the living proof
that we are a just society.
Nelson Rockefeller
Carillon VFW Post 12059 participated in the Loyalty Day Parade
in New Lenox on May 1st along with numerous other veteran
organizations from the area. It was a cool day but we had a good time
and tossed bubble gum to the children along the parade route. We go
to this parade every year and it goes on, rain or shine. Our members
look forward to this event every year and really enjoy the day with all
of the children.
Carillon VFW Post 12059 has two important dates for members to put
on their calendars. The first date is August 7th at the American Legion
Post in Lockport. That day we will be holding our Annual Picnic which
is always a good time for all of the members and their families. The
second date is October 1st.. On that day we will be holding our 10th
Anniversary Party in the tent at the Links Grill. Mark your calendars
and prepare for two nice events. There will be more to follow as we get
closer to those two dates.
Carillon VFW Post 12059 made two trips to the Manteno Veterans’
Home this past month with the generous donations from the Carillon
Community. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and your kind wishes
for our veterans.

THE
CIVIC CORNER
Deep in the Heart of Taxes
Have you been disappointed in your property tax bill? Do you think
your home is valued higher than it should be? Would you like to see if
you can lower your property assessment (and your taxes)?
The Civic Committee will help you assess your chances of a reduction
and help you prepare to ask the assessor for a reduction. It’s your home
so you must do some work. But for a little time on your part you
could reap a lot of money or, if all is fairly assessed now, the comfort of
knowing you are being taxed fairly when compared to your neighbors.
Email: [email protected] or call (815) 372-3775 for more info.
Upcoming Events
Mark your calendars!
Shred Day – August 27, 2016 – Watch for the announcement.
September 8, 2016 – Organ Donor Awareness Forum
September 29, 2016 – Meet the Candidates Forum for the General
Election

Flag Day – June 14, 2016
In the United States Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates
the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on
that day in 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/flagacts%-28unitedstates%29
The week of June 14 is designated as “National Flag Week.” During
National Flag Week, the president will issue a proclamation urging
U.S. citizens to fly the American flag for the duration of that week.
Did you know….
When a flag is so worn or is in such condition that it is no longer fit to
serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed in a dignified
manner? VFW Post 12059 of Carillon holds a ceremony each year on
Veteran’s Day for just that purpose. You can bring worn flags to VFW
Post 12059 of Carillon meeting on the first Wednesday evening of any
month.

THE NEEDLEWORKERS
The Needleworkers meet on Tuesdays from 1:00-3:30 in Club Room 3.
Anything you wish to create with a needle, the group does: knitting,
crocheting, cross-stitching, needlepoint, sewing, some quilting, etc:
Some have joined our group just to socialize, get interested in a craft
and now have busy hands also.
The first Tuesday of the month finds the Needleworkers enjoying lunch
at different local restaurants before meeting at the clubhouse.
If you are moving or no longer doing needlework and need to dispose
of your “stash”, there are several groups that could find homes for your
items, putting them to very good use. You could bring them to Room
3, (the Library) on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:30.
If you are interested in working on any project that uses a needle, come
join the group. Members have knowledge of many crafts and even
though they do not teach, they will gladly try to help with any stitching
problems. For information please call Sandie Denklau 372-0558 or
Phyllis Taylor, 886-4789.
Stained Glass Group
Are you looking to try your hand at something new?
Everyone is welcome to stop by the ceramics room and see if learning
the art of stained glass could be something you would be interested in.
See how easy it can be to start by making a flower, butterfly or bird
suncatcher. A suncatcher would be perfect to hang in a window or even
in the garden in the spring.
There is no cost for you to join The Stained Glass Group and the
materials for your first project will be provided.
Stop in on Thursday or Saturday mornings between 9:00 AM and
12:00 noon and visit with The Stained Glass Group and check out the
many projects class members are working on. We are a friendly group
and would love to have you join us.
YOUNG AT HEART SINGLES
This month’s general membership meeting will be next Monday, June
6th at 7:00 PM. Come and bring a friend or meet a new friend, have
some dessert and coffee and find out what’s happening! We often have
a trivia game, word search or another surprise game and you may go
home with a treat or a prize!
Our 1st Summer event is Saturday, June 18th. A vintage fashion show
will be presented by the Gingham Tree Resale Shop and the Auxiliary
of Good Samaritan Hospital. Tickets for the social are $15.00. This
is an early afternoon program. The menu will include a salad bar with
a chicken breast, cole slaw, potato salad and rolls. Coffee, wine and
soda will be served. Seating by table number will be at 12:30 PM
on Saturday and luncheon will be served at 1:00 PM. Our fashion
runway will come to life at about 2:15 PM.
Check your calendar and make a note! This social is one of the very
few that is earlier on both the calendar and the day; and the tickets
will be available for less than 2 weeks. So, gather your friends and
neighbors and reserve your seats together. The tickets will be on sale at
the evening meeting on June 6th. The last day to RSVP is on Monday,
June 13th. We will be in the clubhouse for a last minute sale between
10 AM and noon on that day. If you cannot purchase your ticket on
either of these dates, an accommodation may be made thru Dianne at
815-293-0278.
Just a reminder, your $15.00 check for the 2016 dues can be paid at a
meeting or in the drop box in the office. All single residents are invited
and welcomed to our monthly meetings and our socials.

Notes from
the Marketing Committee
Newcomers
Our enthusiastic Carillon Newcomers Committee is making plans
to host another Newcomer Gathering on Friday, June 10, in the
Carillon Clubhouse from 7pm to 8:30pm.
As always, all of our friendly committee members are looking
forward to meeting you.
Our group consists of fairly recent move-ins who really enjoy
welcoming others and helping them discover the extra “spice of life”
in Carillon. That’s our gig – making you feel welcome in this little
corner of the world. You will find smiling faces, lots of information,
and really good homemade treats. The committee is REALLY good
at supplying treats!
So please mark your calendar and come to the clubhouse on Friday,
June 10.
Just an RSVP to Sheila Peebles will do the trick: sheilapeebles@
sbcglobal.net or (815) 886-8665
Website, carillonhoa.org
If you have not logged on to the Carillon website, please do. You
will find all sorts of good information there. And if you sign up for
the Message Board, the CAMA office will send you short notices of
doings and changes to schedules as they happen.
Also, be sure to complete your profile page. There you can enter
lots of information that will enhance your ability to keep in touch.
If you need help, Jim Arends of the Marketing Committee will give
you assistance. Contact Jim at [email protected] or (815)
267-0010.
Remember . . .
Don’t forget the Links Grille. It is open once again and would make
a great place to have coffee or “whatever” with a friend or colleague.
You can’t beat the location!
Barbara Erickson,
Marketing Committee

Crafty Crafters
We all know wool comes from sheep, but how many sheep does it
take to make a blanket? None! Sheep can’t crochet or knit. Did
you hear about the cat who swallowed a ball of yarn? No, what
happened? She had mittens. What happens if you dip a skein of
blue yarn into the Red Sea? It gets wet.
Pretty corny jokes, I
admit, but I bet they got you to smile.
All the ladies at Crafty Crafters are smiling, laughing and talking as
we prepare crocheted and knitted items to be donated to charities.
And we are especially excited about some of the new items we are
going to have at the craft show. Come see us every Wednesday,
from 12:30 to 3:00 in Club Room 2. No skills needed. We can
teach you. No materials needed. We can get you started on a
project with hooks, needles and yarn. I like to think of Crafty
Crafters as a sharing and caring group. And we would like to share
with you.
In addition to working on craft show items, we also donated 10
puppy pads to humane societies, 12 afghans and 1 baby hat & scarf
set to the Carillon Women’s Club for their annual baby shower,
10 lap robes to Hospice and 24 nursery hats and 2 lap robes to
Presence St. Joseph. Pat Halik of Canterbury donated baby afghans
and yarn. Lois Shields (Andover), Sonja Krotz (Aberdeen) and
Hetty Ghalii (Bristol) donated yarn.

WOOD Shop
The machines in the woodshop are busy during the morning hours
by the men in our community. They work on items for themselves,
for the craft fair and in repairs for the residents. If you have an item
that needs some TLC, please bring it to the Woodshop during the
morning hours to see if it can be repaired by the men.
The women’s woodshop group has been in existence for 11 years.
We have made many items for ourselves and for the craft fairs. We
have a wonderful time together and are looking for more women
to join us. You don’t need any experience, just a desire to create
something in wood with your hands. Our instructors are very
helpful and anxious to share their expertise. We meet Wednesday
afternoons from 1:00-4:00. If you are interested in joining, please
call Sandie Denklau 815-372-0558.
As mentioned above, the men and women woodworkers are
creating items for the Carillon Craft Fair, which is held in October.
They are gathering new ideas to work on to sell at the fair. There
are currently wood items in the shelf unit outside the woodshop for
purchase. Handmade items make wonderful birthday, anniversary,
thinking of you gifts.

OUR GUARDS NEED YOUR HELP
Several recent emergency situations have highlighted the need
to update our on-file information for the Guard’s office. All
residents are asked to provide their current phone numbers
– both land lines AND cell-phones. In addition, please list
your preferred “emergency contacts” (two names would be
sufficient). Please include their first and last names, plus home
and cell-phone numbers. If you wish to indicate your personal
relationship with each contact, (i.e.) son, daughter, etc., that
would also be helpful.
Transponder Users
Another serious problem was brought to our attention. If you
use a transponder when you come through the entrance gate,
please remember to come to a complete stop. If your vehicle is
moving, the signal cannot be completed. On several occasions,
an entering vehicle kept moving even though the gate had not
gone up - AND - the car broke through the gate. NOT GOOD!
Linda Teilhet did a wonderful job with the April Andover Luau.
It was a well-attended event, and possibly the best gathering we
had in ages.
Bocce starts this month. Fell free to join in for a good time with

Happy June Everyone: Remember Flag Day on June, 14th.
May was a very busy month for our Ashford neighbors. A
number of the ladies had the pleasure of taking a trip to the
South. Carol Roman went with the Road Scholar tour group
to Arkansas. There they saw the Little Rock School, where our
integration started in 1957, the Clinton Library, Eureka Springs
and the Crystal Ridges Art Museum in Bentonville, AK. Joan
Gutowski went on a trip to the Gulf Shores where she was able
to visit her daughter Janet in Fairhope, Alabama. She toured the
Naval Rocket Museum, took a trolley ride through Savannah,
Ga and visited Tybee Island. While she was in the area, she was
able to see her niece at the University of Alabama. Jo Scofield
and her grandson Nick also went to Mexico and had a great
time.
Dick and Esther Morley celebrated their 60th (not 61st)
anniversary with family members from several different states
and close friends. Our 3 daughters and their families planned,
prepared, and set everything up. The grandchildren all had a
hand in it and carried out their jobs to perfection. They feel very
blessed that God has given them 60 wonderful years together.
Congratulation from your family in Ashford.

Everyone had a great time at April’s Card Party. There were a
lot of single game winners. What fun! Our next card party
is scheduled for November 12th. Thank you to everyone who
supports our game.
IMPORTANT DATES: (1)“Meet in the Street” is scheduled
for Friday, 6/17 at 5:30PM. No agenda, just food & visiting.
(2) “Christmas Party” is 12/4. (3) H.O.A. meeting 6/15 at
7PM. (4) TOTT news deadline 3rd of each month.
AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Tom Kelsh was on an
Honor Flight April 13th. He was very impressed with how well
Chicago Honor Flight was organized. There is a “Chicago”
ambassador for each veteran. Upon arrival at D.C. there is an
ambassador escorting each of the 100 veterans. Each ambassador
& medical personnel pay their own airfare & expenses. He
said they saw many memorials & sights; Arlington, WWII,
Nurses, Lincoln, Vietnam, Korean. The Korean Memorial was
very moving. (Tom spent his 20th & 21st birthdays at the 38th
Parallel). Below Tom at the Korean Memorial. Tom has so
much to share about his trip.
It was once believed that exercise was simply a means to an
end…to lose weight. But studies have shown that the benefits of
staying fit and active go well beyond simple weight loss. Physical
activity and regular exercise have proven to decrease the risk of
heart disease, and can also decrease your risk of stroke, colon
cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure. If the overall health
benefits weren’t enough, living an active healthy lifestyle at every
age, helps increase energy and even helps increase the overall
happiness in your life.
Exercise doesn’t have to be boring. It doesn’t have to be the thing
you dread doing each day. The key to a successful fitness regime
is finding something that you love.
STAY FIT AND ACTIVE….…LIVE LONGER

Happy Belated Mother’s Day to all our lovely mothers,
grandmothers, stepmothers, and great grandmothers! I hope
you enjoyed your special day.
Agnes and Jack Clines proudly announced the birth of their
first great grandchild. Marley Kaci was born on 4/23/2016
and weighed 8 lbs. 7 ounces.
Pat Fitzpatrick’s son Jim is now hiking the Appalachian
Trail. He has already completed 246 miles and is heading to
Damascus, Virginia.
Snowbirds, Cindy and Jim Petersen, have returned from
Florida after five weeks only to leave again after a few days
home, for California. Jim will visit a nephew, a graduate of
West Point. After three tours of duty in the army he is being
promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. It is a custom to have a
relative or someone special pin your bars to your uniform in
the ceremony. It is extra special this time, because Jim and his
nephew are both combat veterans. Congrats to all! You make
us proud!

A hearty Bristol welcome to new residents Michael and Sharon
Brodzky, who now live at 13646 Redbud Drive. We hope you
enjoy living here as much as we do.
The following residents are experiencing health issues: Dick
Cherney, Charlotte McCabe, and Joanne Hunter. Our
condolences to Nancy Wons on the death of her husband
Kenneth Wans. A note is always appreciated.
I am thankful for ........
...the clothes that fit a little too snug, because it means I have
enough to eat.
...the spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it
means I’m capable of going the distance.
...all the complaining I hear about our government, because it
means we have freedom of speech.
...the lady behind me in church who sings off key, because it
means I can still hear.
...the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours, because
it means that I am alive to live another day.
Life begins at 40 but so do fallen arches, backaches, faulty
eyesight, and the tendency to tell a story to the same person
three or four times. Make today count. Make it a good day.
Show a little kindness to a neighbor.
Be grateful.

BUCKINGHAM
Happy Birthday to: Camille Jacques – 6th and Alice
Ragosta – 9th
Please join us in welcoming our newest Buckingham residents,
Larry and Elaine Wisniewski. We are very excited to have
them as our new neighbors and wish them many years of health
and happiness in Carillon.
Both were born and lived in northwest Chicago and attended
the same elementary school. They’ve been married more than
50 years and have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. Their son’s
family of 5 lives in North Carolina and their daughter’s family
of 4 lives nearby in Aurora.
Larry and Elaine have lived in Chicago, Addison, Naperville
and New Hampshire. They like to read, do puzzles, and winter
in the south. They are looking forward to the many activities
offered here. Larry has already volunteered to help with the
Buckingham landscaping team.

Cambridge
RESERVATIONS: Maryann Skopek 815-886-4077
Two Cambridge residents, both former board members, have passed
away. Charlie Angela was our treasurer for many years, and Phyllis
Lindahl was our long-time secretary. We extend our sympathies to
their families and friends.
You may be able to save some money on your homeowner’s insurance
policies. Our Association’s insurance covers the outsides of all our
buildings, so make sure you have a Townhome or Condo policy.
Talk to your insurance agent and change to this less expensive type
policy if you don’t have it already.
The Cambridge Bridge Club played May 2 at Ann Hinshaw’s
home. Winners were Nancy Wurmle, Ann Hinshaw and Barb
Pennington. If you play bridge, we invite you to join us. Please
call either Ann Hinshaw at 815-886-0825 or Joanne Barczak at
815-886-7498. We look forward to hearing from many of you
bridge players.
To keep our Cambridge section of Talk of the Town interesting,
how about letting me know something funny that happened to
you that you still remember, even though it may have occurred long
ago? Or maybe relate a kind act that meant (or still means) a lot
to you. You don’t have to email; a phone call will be fine. If I can’t
answer the call, just leave a message.
Patty Palmer, Jo O’Halloran and Betty Donaldson announce the
next ladies’ lunch! Mark your calendar for Tuesday, June 21 to be
at Cracker Barrel just N of I-55 at 11:30. Call Patty at 219-3845872 by June 20 to RSVP or to request a ride to the luncheon.
We need volunteers for a committee to take care of decorating our
two Cambridge entrances. This is not a job that can be done be one
or two residents; we need a full committee of 4-6 people in order
to reduce the amount of time and energy each member will have
to spend planting, weeding, trimming, etc. A larger group should
also give us more landscape ideas. Please consider helping, and call
Irma at 815-886-1676.
June is another busy month: National Doughnut Day, Flag Day,
International Picnic Day, Fathers’ Day, Juneteenth and International
Yoga Day. Enjoy!
Remember, let me know about something funny or something
kind that happened to you that you can’t forget. Please contact me
with items for the July issue by Sunday, June 5.
Thanks!

A FEW HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MAY 5TH HOA
MEETING
There were 44 people in attendance.
Please be sure your preferred access list is updated with the
security gate people.
Half of the roofs in Canterbury have been replaced so far.
Fifteen trees (mostly ash) have recently been removed in
Canterbury.
It is recommended that for safety reasons, dryer vents be cleaned
out every 2 years. If you need your dryer vent cleaned, you can
call Claudio Perese at 331-220-1028. They charge between $20
and $60.
There are now natural gas leak detectors/alarms available. They
cost about $40 and can be purchased at hardware stores.
There were some complaints regarding lawn care. If you are
having a problem with the landscapers, you need to contact
Dawn Schwartz of Foster Premier as soon as the problem
occurs. The landscapers are responsible for lawn cutting only.
Lawn repair, reseeding and watering is the responsibility of the
homeowner.
All catch basins in Carillon are treated for mosquito control and
paid for by CAMA.

in check cashing fees. Gina at Foster Premier will help you take
care of it. Thank You!
The next Ladies Luncheon is July 19th
As I write this column the roofing project is going well. The
landscapers are cleaning up nicely and Carlisle is looking good!
Please park your cars as far from the driveways as possible when
the roofers are working on your building! Especially the sixpacks!

I’ve learned…
That just one person saying ‘You’ve made my day!’ Makes my
day!
That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most
peaceful feelings in the world.
That being kind is more important than being right.
That no matter how serious your life is, everyone needs a friend
to act goofy with.
That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.
That under everyone’s hard shell is someone who wants to be
appreciated.
We certainly appreciate our friends and neighbors who assemble

CHELSEA
Happy June, everyone! We welcome its warmth accompanied
with special celebrations of graduations and weddings! (Those
seemed to fill up my May calendar too though, as schools and
others schedule events earlier each year.) School’s out till August,
and we wonder what happened to Memorial Day and Labor
Day stop and start times? Flag Day is June 14 so fly our colors
proudly! And honor fathers on the 19th!
June 2016
Our big event for June is the annual Chelsea picnic this Saturday,
June 4 starting at 1:30 at the Douglas Circle. This special time
gives us a chance to meet and visit with our neighbors to enjoy
good food and friends! Bring a dish to share and your choice
of beverage. And if it rains on our picnic, we’ll move it to the
Clubhouse rooms 1-2. Contact Lil Greenburg at 407-1254
with any questions. We look forward to seeing you there!
We hope you can make our Annual Meeting Thursday, June 2
at 7 pm at the clubhouse. We welcome your input as well as new
volunteers to assist our board and help with various activities.
Chelsea men will enjoy their monthly breakfast at Larry’s Diner,
Lockport and VanDyke, in Plainfield on Tuesday, June 7 at 9
am. And our ladies plan to meet for lunch at 11:30 on Thursday,
June 16, so check the enclosed flyer for details. Fellowship and
food at these gatherings is always fun and enjoyable!
The Annual Carillon Health Fair opens June 22nd from
8 am-1 pm at the clubhouse. Look over the many wonderful
options provided free for us and sign up this week June 1st-3rd
from 3-6 pm. Each resident can do 3 screenings and 3 services.
It’s a great way to catch up on your “to do” list.

Among our neighbors, Elaine Hudzik is in Rosewood Care
Center in Joliet for care after her recent knee replacement so
a card or call would be great! And welcome to newer residents,
Carol Arneson and Wendy Smogor!
Tip of the Month: Please check your emergency contact
information at the security office and complete a new form
(available at clubhouse) if necessary. With shifts to cell phones,
many numbers have changed, and it’s crucial that security have
your correct contact info if and when needed.

Finally June is here with all its sunshine and promise. It wasn’t a “bad”
winter but it is still nice to be able to open windows to feel the summer
breeze. There are several special days in June and I chose three for some
thought:
6/6/44
US and allied troops invaded Normandy. This was the
largest air, land and sea invasion in history. Historically, it was the
beginning of the end of WWII. (As a side, I’ll bet we have some exservicemen right here who remember it well).
6/14
Flag Day
6/19
FATHERS DAY. This had a slow start. Advertisers
were behind the move to honor fathers the same as mothers. WWII
initiated the thought that fathers day was a way to honor American
troops and support the war effort. By the end of WWII Fathers Day
was a national institution. In 1972 President Nixon made it a national
holiday. Economists estimate that Americans spend more than $1
billion each year on Fathers Day gifts. HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO
ALL THE DADS, GRANDPAS, AND GREAT GRANDPAS.
DIRECTORS MEETING REMINDERS:
CAMA has asked that all residents remember that the golf course cart
paths are for golfers only. No private golf carts or walking your dogs is
allowed on their paths.
The Architectural committee asks that if you have a request to do any
homeowners improvements please get those requests to the committee
at least a week before the board meeting. The Board meets the first
Tuesday of each month and the committee needs time to review and
make their recommendations by that first Tuesday.
GOLFERS:
The 2016 Dorchester Men’s Golf Season is underway. The weather has
not been totally cooperative but that hasn’t stopped us from playing.
The “Shot of the Season” so far was a Chip-in Birdie on the seventh
hole by Chuck Zbrozek on May 5th. Also welcome to Don Bendis
who has joined our group this year.
CELEBRATION TIME:
Gloria Hainsworth and Lan Henderson from Sycamore Drive were
married on February 10, 2016. They hosted a reception for family
and friends on May 22nd and are planning an Alaskan getaway this
summer. CONGRATULATIONS!
Lessons on Empathy.
1. Today I interviewed my grandmother for part of a research paper
I’m working on for my Psychology class. When I asked her to
define success in her own words, she said, “Success is when you
look back at your life and the memories make you smile.”
2. Today, after my 72 hour shift at the fire station, a woman ran up
to me at the grocery store and gave me a hug. When I tensed up,
she realized I didn’t recognize her She let go with tears of joy in
her eyes and the most sincere smile and said, “On 9-11-2001, you
carried me out of the World Trade Center.”
Please keep your items coming.
