What Makes a Trained Leader?
Adult leaders in units are considered trained and eligible to wear the official “Trained” emblem once they have completed Youth
Protection Training and the training courses outlined below.
Youth Protection Training is a requirement for all registered adults and must be retaken every two years.
To take Youth Protection Training, go to E-Learning at www.myscouting.org.
If you need your BSA Membership ID #, call the Heart of Ohio Council Service Center at (419) 522-8300 , or to link your Youth
Protection Training to your BSA Membership ID #, print and mail your Youth Protection Training Certificate to the Heart of Ohio

BSA’s New Technology & Tools
My.Scouting.org Tools
Through the tools at My.Scouting.org, volunteers have unprecedented access to their information to ensure that their records and the unit’s records
are up to date. The information entered through these tools goes straight into the BSA’s database. While access varies according to your volunteer
position, the unit “Key Three” (the unit leader, Chartered Organization Representative, and Committee Chair) can access these tools:
 Training Manager– Unit Key Three can view a dashboard of Youth Protection and basic leader training status, add leader training, and print
training certificates.
 Organization Manager– Unit Key Three can create and manage a unit’s organizational structure (create dens in packs; patrols in troops; groups
in crews; crews in ships; squads in teams; and other committees).
 Member Manager– Unit Key Three can assign members to functional roles within a unit’s organizational structure, and maintain roster.

Internet Advancements
All units are encouraged to report their unit’s advancements through the Internet Advancement system. Internet Advancement is accessed through
our council website at www.heartofohiocouncil.org or from My.Scouting.org. When first-time unit processors enter, they are greeted by a welcome
page with instructions and invited to log in and accept a confidentiality agreement. Once they have provided some registration information, they
move to an overview page with additional instructions. Returning users skip these steps and go directly to selecting members for advancement.
Benefits of Internet Advancement




Helps in local council certification of Eagle Scout Rank Applications
Records ranks, badges, and awards in accordance with BSA advancement rules
Consolidates data files to reduce or eliminate record gaps when Scouts transfer units
Assures advancement is counted in the Journey to Excellence
If units choose to upload advancement files generated from PackMaster©, TroopMaster©, or ScoutSoft© instead of manually entering information,
Internet Advancement will load the unit's roster and then allow upload of new advancement information. When manually entering ranks, you must
enter each individual's rank in proper sequence. Once everything is done and verified, an advancement report is printed, signed, and provided to the
local council so awards can be purchased.
Because unit advancement processors access data directly from ScoutNET, deciphering handwriting is not an issue. The system also validates
entries against advancement rules and generates error messages when needed. Errors must be corrected before the process can proceed.
Where to Find Internet Advancement Help
Contact your advancement chair or district executive to get your unit ID. If your unit’s password is forgotten or you have a change in the person recording the advancements, your password can be reset. You can contact the council service center and we can reset that for you. The system also
includes a link to Frequently Asked Questions on every page, as well as an indexed help tool that can be searched by keyword or topic.

to learn everything you need to know to have the best popcorn sale ever.
2015 District Popcorn Kick-offs / Trainings:
Who Should Attend: Each Cub Scout pack, Boy Scout troop, or Venturing
crew must send their unit popcorn chair to one of the four training opportunities listed below in order to qualify for the 2% training commission (assistants
are also encouraged to attend).
