delivered and installed. Our installation posed some difficult challenges in regard to the “middle of the night” cut-over in which our
off-the-air time was minimized as well as simply fitting the UPS through undersized doorways and passages just to get it into the

UPS Replacement at WXIX Fox 19
THE SOLUTION:
Due to the nature of the Fox 19
live news programming, the
installation had to take place as
quickly as possible. Advanced
Facilities Inc. assisted with the
installation and it went very
smoothly and was up and
running in a little over an
hour.
greensource Cincinnati suggested
Fox 19 utilize their existing
batteries and bypass/transformer
and pair it with a new MGE
Galaxy 5000 UPS. The new unit
operates on fewer batteries so they
now have 4 extra batteries for
future back-up.
The UPS is a vital piece of
equipment for the operation
at WXIX Fox 19. The UPS
supports the main server
room, critical PC’s Network
interfaces, and all servers used
support live feed while “on air”.
In addition, the fieldwork and
television edits are backed-up by
the UPS supported servers.
THE ISSUE:
Fox 19 was faced with an aging
UPS system. The unit was
beginning to fail, and replacement
parts were no longer available. Fox
19 had recently purchased 48 new
batteries, which was a large
investment they hoped to retain.
