Depart from Kalambaka, drive through the striking plain of Thessaly and the Valley of Tempi, and admire the gigantic figure of Mount Olympos, the highest mountain in Greece and home of the 12 Gods in Greek Mythology. Arrival at Thessaloniki,the second largest and the most vibrant city in Greece. (Dinner and overnight) 5th day: In the morning visit the city that throughout the era of the Byzantine Empire was the "co-reigning" city, second in population and prestige only to Constantinople. Visit unique monuments and feel the glorious Byzantine past in some of the oldest and most characteristic churches of the Christian world as well as in the Museum of Byzantine Culture, awarded with the Council of Europe's Museum Prize for the year 2005. Rest of the day free, to enjoy time in the lively center of the city. (Dinner and overnight) 6th day: Depart in the morning for a unique approach to historical Macedonia. First stop at picturesque Edessa where we see the town's famous landmark, the Waterfalls. Then proceed to Naoussa, to a site of exceptional beauty and importance: Aristotle's School, the picturesque site where the great philosopher taught ‘the doctrines of morals and politics' to Alexander the Great and the Macedonian youth. Then drive to Vergina (ancient Aigai), to live the experience of a visit to the unique Museum, created in the Great Tumulus covering the royal tombs of Macedonia. See the astonishing findings from the tomb of King Phillip II, Alexander's father, and feel the thrill of the greatest discovery of the 20th century. In only a few miles away is Veria (Biblical Beroea) to visit Saint Paul's Bema, and then stroll through the old Jewish neighborhood and the colourful market area. A walk in a city where past is present and around. Return to Thessaloniki. (Dinner and overnight) 7th day: Drive to Pella, the capital of Alexander the Great. See the exquisite floor mosaics of the 4th century B.C. villas, in situ as well as in the new Museum. Then proceed and visit the Archaeological Park of Dion (sacred city of the Macedonians, at the foot of mountain Olympos). After the visit we shall start driving south and through Thessaly, Lamia, Thermopylae (see the Leonidas' Monument) and Thebes, arrive in Athens late in the afternoon. N.B. Day 6 - SANTORINI: After breakfast, you transfer to the port and take the ferry to Santorini. Arrival transfer to your hotel for a 3 night stay. This island offers without a doubt the most spectacular view of the Aegean Sea. This circular island was created after a volcanic eruption about 3000 years ago. You will be enchanted by the crisp white vaulted houses, carved in the volcanic rock such as the city of Fira, situated on the top of the mountain, approximately 300 meters above sea level. From there, you can enjoy the panoramic view of the caldera. The beaches are on the other side of the island, made of black sand or dark pebbles. If you are an archaeology enthusiast, you can go to the Akrotiri site where the ruins of a prehistoric city have been discovered. Day 6 - FRIDAY: After breakfast you are transferred to Lavrion, one of the major ports of Athens. 60 kilometers from Athens, Lavrion is an ancient silver mining center and a bustling port – the city’s silver mines date to prehistory. The giant columns at the Temple of Poseidon were “excavated” in Lavrion, which is also home to the oldest and largest ancient amphitheater in Greece. Day 7 – SATURDAY: Our first stop is magical Istanbul. This is one of the world’s great cities, home to Byzantine and Ottoman architectural jewels such as Hagia Sofia, the Greek Patriarchate, the lovely fountain and gardens of Sultanahmet Square and the incredible Grand Bazaar (61 covered streets!). Make sure to leave time for a cruise from Europe to Asia across the historic Bosphorus Day 8 - SUNDAY: From Istanbul we depart for the white sand beaches of quiet Kusadasi, which are a stone’s throw from Ancient Ephesus and the Terrace Houses, the House of the Virgin Mary, beautiful Sirince Village and the thrilling metropolis of Izmir. The outstanding shopping at Kusadasi’s lively harborside bazaar will entice you, as will Ancient Ephesus, one of the best-preserved, most extensive archaeological sites in the Mediterranean and a mere 19 kilometers from Kusadasi. It was the most important Christian city between Rome and Antiochin the early years of Christianity. Day 9 - ATHENS: After breakfast, transfer to the airport and fly back home (via Athens) Day 9 - MONDAY: We spend the following day in Santorini, whose majestic volcanic cliffs tower above the Aegean. Take a jeep safari into the interior or a cruise to Santorini’s smaller islands and volcanoes. You can also visit the Akrotiri Village excavations, stroll through the lovely hilltop village of Fira, the island’s capital, or just relax in a café in Oia Village and watch a spectacular sunset from 300 meters above the sea. You’ll feel as if you can put your fingertips to the sky. Day 10 - TUESDAY: From Santorini we sail overnight to lovely Agios Nikolaos for an incredible day in Crete. Greece’s largest island will greet you like a long-lost relative.Crete is a wonderland of pristine beaches, hiking trails, rivers and archeological marvels, including the Minoan Palace of Knossos, home to the first civilization in Europe. Don’t miss the scenic villages of the prefecture of Lasithi, the island’s picturesque monasteries and the famous islet of Spinalonga. Crete is easy to love and hard to leave – don’t do it without a bottle of Cretan olive oil, the world’s finest. Try some tasty local wines and relax at charming Tsampika Beach, or stroll the cobbled streets of old city and enjoy an al fresco traditional Greek coffee, strong enough to keep you going through a morning packed with the best of this magnificent island and its 2,400 years of history. Enjoy a delicious lunch on the pool deck or a chilled glass of ouzo and meze at Thalassa Bar, on Deck 10, the Aegean spread before you as we sail for an afternoon in charming Symi and its picture-perfect capital. The mansions of sponge fishing millionaires and shipping magnates climb the hillsides above the harbor at Symi, a protected architectural site since the 1970s. Day 12 - THURSDAY: How about breakfast in fragrant Chios, allegedly the birthplace of Christopher Columbus and almost swimming distance from the Turkish coast. Chios is mountainous, but it offers visitors a stunning array of beautiful beaches. The sturdy Castle of Chios rises just north of the center of Chios Town, beside the harbor: originally a Byzantine fortress, the Genoese rebuilt the castle between the 12th and 14th centuries. At the center of the island is Nea Moni Monastery, from the 11th century, and Kambos, redolent with citrus. Southern Chios is home to the mastic villages, which date to the Genoese occupation. Our final stop is magical Mykonos, an island so lovely it’s been one of the most popular destinations in the world for almost six decades. Its countryside is as pristine as its beaches. Stroll the enchanting cobbled alleys of Mykonos Town to the Little Venice neighborhood then, after the sun retires, rub elbows with the jet set in one of Mykonos Town’s chic nightclubs. It only takes a few hours on this paradisiacal island to understand why it’s loved by travelers from around the world. After a few hours of dancing, we bid goodnight to Mykonos and sail for Piraeus, where you’ll be amongst the first to wish the golden Attic sun good morning. Day 13 - FRIDAY: Morning return to Athens, transfer to your hotel for the last day. Rest of the day free to enjoy shopping. From Rethymnon you can take the most direct route to Chania, continuing along the main coastal highway. Route 2. Drive south out of Rethymnon, following signs to Armeni village, then cross over mountain range before descending to coastal village of Plakias. A beautiful old Mosque right on the waterfront completes the picture as Chania's most recognizable landmark. For a different perspective, drive up to Venizelos memorial to capture sweeping views over Chania, which are especially captivating at sunset. Or for the more active explorer, take a day trip to see the most spectacular landscape in Crete which lies along the Samaria Gorge, the longest ravine in Europe (18km). Clients recognize such events and assume its consequences by agreeing not to hold SKYWAY TOURS responsible. Hotel ratings are provided and established by the Local Tourist Organizations in accordance with local standards and may be different from North American standards. Air conditioning in some European hotels is usually turned off during the off-peak season, unless it becomes necessary due to unusual heat wave. If your package includes a cruise holiday in the Greek Islands and you have recently used a Caribbean cruise, you should be made aware that the accommodation standards are different between the two products. To maintain the quality of services, hotel complexes must regularly undergo maintenance, improvement, renovation work and, in some instances, consider expansion. SKYWAY TOURS cannot be held responsible for any inconvenience caused to the client. Claims: Our services consist of several components provided by independent suppliers. In the event that any component is changed while on tour, our local representatives will try to give you the earliest possible notice and offer alternative arrangements of an equal value. If you utilize these new arrangements, it will be taken as your acceptance of the changes as full compensation of the cancelled or altered services. If you encounter a problem while abroad you must inform us, and our local Agent, immediately so that we may be able to rectify the problem. We will not accept any later claims since the problem may be difficult to rectify once you have returned home. If any matter is not resolved you must notify us in writing within 21 days of the completion of your tour. We accept no responsibility beyond the refund of the unused portion and such refund will be deemed to constitute full settlement. Documentation: All passengers are requested to have a valid passport. Certain countries require that the passport be valid for six (6) months beyond the date of return to Canada. It is the passenger’s responsibility to determine and obtain all documentation required by all relevant government authorities such as passport, visas etc... If the travel documents are not in order the carrier, be this an airline or a cruise company, reserve the right to refuse passage with no refund issued in such cases. Special conditions apply to children travelling alone or with one parent. Please consult your travel agent. Our Responsibility: SKYWAY TOURS acts as your agent in booking the services offered in this brochure, including transportation, sightseeing, excursions, cruises, hotel accommodation and car rentals. The carriers, hotel, car rental companies, cruise companies and other suppliers are independent contractors and are in no way affiliated with SKYWAY TOURS. We are not responsible for changes imposed on us by such suppliers. We are responsible in providing you with the services booked. However, all vouchers and other travel documents issued by us are subject to the terms and conditions specified by the supplier and to the laws of the country in which the services are rendered. In case the services you booked could not be supplied, we will endeavor to arrange comparable alternative services and any resulting additional expense should be payable by you while in the event of any resulting cost reduction should be refunded to you. If a tour is cancelled we have no responsibility beyond the refund of monies paid by you for that specific tour component. You agree that neither us or our affiliates shall be liable for any damage, loss (including personal injury, whether physical or mental, death and property loss) or expenses occurred by an act of God or an act or omission of any other person. In no event is SKYWAY TOURS liable for damages exceeding the amounts of monies paid by you for the services you requested and booked. Printed in Canada: January 2015.
