Dear Food Bank Friends,
With your help, the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma distributed a record number of meals this fiscal year. Together, we are now providing more than 335,000 meals each week to the hungry and food insecure
throughout eastern Oklahoma. Each day, these meals are going to our neighbors who do not know for certain
how, when or if they will have access to food.
The methods of distribution vary, which is a reflection of the diverse areas we serve. An effective way to fight
hunger in Tulsa might be different than in Pryor or Poteau. Most of the food we distribute will go out through
our network of Partner Programs in the form of groceries or prepared meals. Our 450 Partner Programs work
tirelessly in their diverse communities to meet the needs of those struggling with hunger. Many meals are
delivered on our Mobile Eatery, the Food Bank’s food truck, which takes healthy meals into neighborhoods
where hunger is widespread and transportation is scarce. Meals go to children in our community through our
Food for Kids Program, which includes the Backpack Program, Free Family Farmers Markets and extended school
holiday feeding. Through Senior Servings, almost 1,500 people each month receive food assistance, which helps
them maintain a level of independence and dignity. Meals are also served in cooking classes designed to expand
a low-income cook’s ability to stretch their food budget and prepare healthier meals at home.
There are so many ways to solve the big problem of hunger, it can seem insurmountable at times. But when
you break it down, hunger is an issue comprised of missed meals. Through your efforts this past year, you have
provided thousands of meals to those who would have otherwise gone without. These meals fuel them to go to
school, go to work, serve in our military and ultimately allow them to focus on improving their circumstances.
I know the recipients of these meals appreciate your help. All of us at the Food Bank do, too. Together we are
impacting the lives of so many and making things better, one meal at a time.
On behalf of the hungry,
Eileen Ryan Bradshaw, Executive Director
