Euro Auto Festival BMW Plant Greenville, SC October 19th
September 2012 Volume #11 No. 9 Plan Now for October 7th Concourse in Gainesville www.ngjc.us P.O. Box 1234 Gainesville, GA 30503 NGJC Slalom is Sunday, September 16th Euro Auto Festival BMW Plant Greenville, SC October 19th – 21st Fall Drive Set For Sunday, October 28th Join us on the web! PRESIDENT’S CORNER Greetings to all. Nancy and I hope you are having a fantastic Summer. Our recent drive up to Amicalola Falls was one of the best. Not only did we enjoy the drive but the buffet lunch at the lodge was at its typical best–followed by a snake show by one of the park rangers. I continue to be amazed that more of our club members don’t come out for these drives. They are really missing some great times and company. There is still plenty more to do this year as the weather turns cooler and more comfortable. The All British Car Show in Norcross is September 8th and it may, or not be passed by the time this newsletter posts. Dick Maurys Fall slalom races are scheduled for September 16th at Chicopee Agricultural Center in Gainesville and these events are always a lot of fun to drive or just watch. As most of you know we are now closing in on our biggest event of the year; our annual Concours dElegance scheduled for October 7th at the Chattahoochee Country Club in Gainesville. Believe me, this is one event you (and family) do not want to miss. Please look for the article in this newsletter. If you are planning on attending PLEASE send us your registration forms as soon as you can. Last year Continued on page 2 Euro Auto Festival BMW Plant Greenville, SC October 19th – 21st Submitted by Dave Kirkman This is the seventeenth year that this annual gathering of European automobiles has been held at the BMW plant just North of Greenville, SC on I-85. The EURO, as it has come to be called, is the largest gathering of European marques in the Southeast. The BMW plant serves as the perfect host and background with over four hundred cars displayed on their grounds. This year’s featured marque, for the first time, is Mercedes Benz. British cars, and Jaguar in particular, have always been a prominent part of the show. Friday, October 19th, will feature plant tours and lectures on various car subjects. Saturday, October 20th, is the EURO with a banquet following and Sunday morning has a fun rally. Complete information about the EURO and the Embassy Suites in Greenville that serves as the host hotel, is at www.euroautofestival.com The web site also has on line registration. Fall Drive Set For Sunday, October 28th Submitted by Dave Kirkman Mark your calendars for our annual Fall Drive that will be on Sunday, October 28th this year. Fall is always a spectacular time of the year to get our Jags out as the weather will be cooler and the fall foliage should be at its peak. Final plans are still being made with complete details in the October newsletter. Welcome New Members Paul and Patricia Iaffaldano of Marietta, Allen and Lola Bradley of Landrum, SC, and Joseph and Linda Gondolfo of Sandy Springs and Billy and Frances Veal of Sandersville. Also, welcome back returning member Bill Collins of Suwanee. NGJC Slalom is Sunday, September 16th Submitted by John Baxa Once again the fall NGJC slalom looks at competition that shows only slim margins separating the leaders in a few of the classes that are still open to claims by the quick. As of this writing, Dick Maury’s 38.917 second record still stands as the best time this year for the Green Bomb but Jim O’Dell is only .664 seconds back in the same car in Class H – the ‘71 green E-Type FHC. Also, Jim only needs to trim a few tenths from his time in the XJ6 to get into award territory. Not only can you see some exciting runs by these experienced drivers, you can participate, too. It’s more fun than you would think to navigate the cones over three circuits. You don’t even have to push the limit, just try to have fun driving your Jaguar through some turns all in the confines of a large parking lot! This is our fall slalom. $10.00 to JCNA members and only $20.00 to nonmembers. Orientation and walk-through in the morning and time trials start late morning. Fall Slalom Sunday, September 16, 2012, Training school, 10:00 am Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center 1855 Calvary Church Rd., Gainesville, GA 30501 Directions From Atlanta: proceed north on I-85, then bear left on I-985. Take exit No. 16 and at the end of the exit ramp turn right (east) on Hwy. 53. Go .3 (three tenths) miles to the 2nd traffic light. Turn left on HWY 13 North. Go .1 (one tenth) mile to the first traffic light. Turn right onto Poplar Springs Road and go 1.4 miles, turning left onto Poplar Springs Church Road (Poplar Springs Baptist Church is at the intersection). Go .6 (six tenths) miles, turn left onto Calvary Church Road (large brick house and Chicopee Ag Center sign are at intersection) and follow this 1.4 miles to the Chicopee Ag Center. Turn right into Chicopee Woods Ag Center. Slalom location is in the parking lot on the immediate right. Jaguars For Sale President’s Letter continued from front cover we had 60 cars on the field including two of the rarest E-Types in the country. Patty Engelhorn, our club Vice President and Concours Chairman has been working hard to make this a great event. I cant wait! Pat Looks like Roy is at it again! Page 2 95 xjs with 58,000 miles on it. I paid 19,000 for it in 2004, and have put 10,000 trouble free miles on it. The only problem occurred recently when some squirrels stored acorns it the left blower motor and when I turned on the blower it broke some of the fins off the, well-squirrel cage! Auto cool has quoted me 700 to repair it. I will take $10,500 for the car. It has Michelin xvg tires and is maroon with camel leather interior. I love the car, but as you can tell 10,000 miles in 8 years, I just don’t drive it. It comes with a Jaguar car cover. Page 5 Summer Drive To Amicalola Falls Well Attended Again This Year Submitted by Dave Kirkman Friday it was supposed to rain. It didn’t. Saturday it was not supposed to rain. Well, it did but just a little. A short shower had everyone putting the tops up but they were back down as we started the back roads drive to Amicalola Falls. John Hoffman had helped me do a pre-drive earlier in the week and that proved to be a good thing as we found road construction that required a short change in plans. Ivan and Myrna Ruiz helped lead the gang again as we headed out. The rain shower left the roads a little damp but the air much cooler for a very pleasant drive. Kathy Cundiff and A.J. Thomas; Phil and Karen Ditrolio; Ron Jansen; Pat and Nancy Harmon; George Haldane, John and Judy Hoffmann; John Hollier; Guy Huffman and Mary Lynn King; Bob and Linda Ray; Ivan, Myrna and Christina Ruiz; Joe Newell and his granddaughter joined us for lunch at the Lodge. The sun was out for a very pleasant drive as we all head for home. Getting that concours shine going Page 6 We want you with your car(s) on the NGJC website Submitted by John C.
