Included is Italian Night, Yom Kippur Dinner, Yappy Hour (for our four-legged friends), Pink Party, a DOCKtoberfest Party, Pumpkin Carving and Pizza Night for Kids to name just a few. The month’s signature event is coming on October 31 – the Annual Georgia-Florida Pep Rally. We look to your participation in our many member events. Families continue to enjoy the fun and value of Family Night every Wednesday. It’s here from 5-8 p.m., the children’s knee-high buffet is featured along with the Terrace dining menu. The young ones also receive a complimentary dessert. One of the Cub’s Den attendants will lead the children in an activity or craft. October themes include Take Me Out to the Ball Game (October 1), National Wildlife Week (October 8), Let’s Get Fit (October 15), Autumn Leaves are Falling Down! Surf & Turf Night The next Surf and Turf Night is scheduled for Friday, October 18 from 5-9 p.m. in the Mansion. It’s here that members will delight in a Duo of Grilled Black Angus Petit Beef Tournedo paired with one of the following surf choices: Steamed Half Lobster Tail OR Scampi Style Shrimp OR Pan Seared Jumbo Lump Blue Crab Cake The above will be served with Roasted Red Bliss Potatoes & Spring Vegetable Medley of Broccoli, Cauliflower & Baby Carrots. $25 per person with service charge and tax additional. The Terrace menu will also be served. Call 739-7200 for reservations. Club Happenings 24th Annual Georgia-Florida Pep Rally & Tailgate Party Bulldog and Gator fans, are you ready for some football? On Friday, October 31 from 7-11 p.m., Epping Forest Yacht & Country Club will host the 24th Annual Georgia-Florida Pep Rally & Tailgate Party. It’s the only place in town to enjoy performances from both the University of Georgia and University of Florida Cheerleading Squads and their Mascots! Enjoy a delicious buffet, complimentary keg beer and dancing to the sounds of the popular band, KTG. $48 for adults, $20 for children (ages 5-12), no charge for those under 5-years. Our Pride in the Sky The Blue Angels Airshow returns to NAS Jax on Sunday, October 26 and EFYCC members will again enjoy a front row seat to this impressive display of our nation’s military greatness. All are invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets to the Gardens for the noon to 3 p.m. performance. We’ll be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs and serving a variety of salads and desserts as well. Epping members are invited to dine at The River Club this evening. Your EFYCC member number will allow for charges to be applied to your account. In preparation for the Florida-Georgia Pep Rally, the Mansion will be closed for lunch and dinner on Friday, October 31. Reciprocal Club Special Founded in 1849, the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans is the second oldest yacht club in the United States (www.southernyachtclub.org). It has hosted U.S. Presidents, been an important venue for early jazz pioneers, and offered up its clubhouse for Naval operations during World War II. The club has also hosted national and international regattas and produced worldclass sailors, including four Olympic medalists. Tennis News An Invitation to Working Women Here’s a class for those gals whose time is committed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. but still wish to learn tennis or improve their game. The Working Women’s Tennis Clinic offered every Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m., provides instruction on all aspects of the game. On-court drills will emphasize proper strokes, footwork and strategy all leading to actual games. Each 90-minute clinic is priced at $20 per person. TENNIS TIP: Perfect Practice Makes Perfect From Joe Perrone, Director of Tennis Epping Forest Yacht & Country Club Here are a few perfect practice tips that can make your court time more productive. 1. Drill repetitively. Drill shots, hit to targets. Be accurate and precise for better shot making. 2. Don’t focus on the easy shots. Practice the tough shots. When the ball is away, go get it. When it’s out of reach, jump for it. Run – Hustle - Recover. These are building blocks for better court coverage. Tennis for Tots Here’s a Tots Clinic designed to introduce the young ones (ages 4-6) to the game of tennis. In a fun and nurturing environment, the children will learn the proper grip, footwork and basic strokes all certain to add to their sense of accomplishment. Fitness News Think Pink Week The first week of October, the Fitness Center will be bringing attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month by featuring displays and information in the Lobby about prevention, treatments, donations, Foundations, races etc. We invite your visit and participation. Feel the Heal As a convenience to members, the Fitness Center features a team of on-call licensed massage therapists. They are skilled in administering several types of relaxing body treatments such as Swedish, Athletic, Neuromuscular and Hot Stone Massages. Joseph Gibney 38th Annual GATE River Run Planning is already underway for the 2015 GATE River Run scheduled for Saturday, March 14. Start recruiting your fellow Club members to join the fun and run with you. This year, we’re introducing a “Name our Team!” contest. Each GATE Club will select their own Team name for everyone running the GATE. Submit Team name to Fitness Center Front Desk prior to December 1. The winner will receive dinner for two at the Club. And look for coming information on a “Run Club” to assist those in training. The social starts at 5 p.m. and will feature a selection of complimentary hors d’ oeuvres and a member charge bar for beverages. The meeting will commence at 6 p.m. All Epping Forest Club members are invited to attend this monthly event. Fall After-School Youth Sailing EFYCC’s Fall After-School Youth Sailing program is underway. Youngsters (ages 8-18), will be introduced to the basics of sailing by a certified instructor. The emphasis will be on the fun, enjoyment and the self-confidence that results from learning to sail. Take a look at the following program options: Every Tuesday for 10-weeks (4-6 p.m.) $200 per child Every Thursday for 10-weeks (4-6 p.m.) $200 per child Tuesday & Thursday for 10-weeks (4-6 p.m.) $300 per child Add-in Saturday for 5-weeks (noon- 2 p.m.) $ 75 per child A Nod to Sailing History Members Jay and Molly Knight while returning to the EFYCC Marina from a recent cruise aboard their Nordic Tug “Good Call” snapped a photo of El Galeón off the coast of St. Augustine. El Galeón is a 170 foot, 495 ton authentic wooden replica of the Spanish ship that carried 800 colonists and supplies to St. Augustine, establishing the first permanent European settlement in the United States in 1565. Siblings will receive a 50% discount per each additional student sailor. Members may also sponsor a friend! Call the Marina at 739-7150 for details. The next Saturday Night Out for Kids scheduled for October 18, will have a spooky theme as youngsters (ages 4-12) will be making Halloween crafts and watching a fun movie. BODEGA TRIVENTO WINE DINNER On Thursday evening, October 16, Epping Forest will host another member Wine Dinner, this time showcasing Argentina’s much heralded Bodega Trivento Winery. Featured will be four delightful dining courses, each paired with an appropriately selected Bodega Trivento wine. While the Chef shares his food preparation techniques, a wine expert will describe in detail the flavor notes and nuances of each presented wine. The 7 p.m. dinner is preceded by a 6:30 p.m. reception.
