In variable mode, wiper speed increases as vehicle speed increases (1) Late availability. 14 2000 Hiller Ford Inc. 6455 South 108 Street Franklin, WI 53132 EXCURSION Safety/Secur ity www.hillerford.com BlockerBeamTM bumper Power four-wheel disc brakes Standard on all models Standard on all models • The BlockerBeam is a 4-foot tubular steel bar located behind and below the front bumper. The beam is designed to meet the crash point of lower-riding passenger cars in the event of a head-on collision • Disc brakes help dissipate heat better than drum brakes • Provide sure stops and smooth, consistent brake pedal feel • The beam is engineered to help prevent smaller vehicles from sliding under Excursion in a frontal collision Four-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) • Functional air dam covers the front component and helps improve fuel economy by about 0.5 mpg by providing better airflow under the vehicle Standard on all models • Designed to eliminate wheel lockup in many severe braking situations, under a variety of weather conditions • A 3-foot-long trailer hitch is positioned to offer the same protection in rear-end crashes • The frame-mounted hitch receiver is a nonremovable item • When impending wheel lockup is detected, the system automatically “pumps” the brakes on the locking wheel(s) several times per second, preventing the wheel or wheels from locking and giving the tires added traction for slowing the vehicle • Any modification or removal of the hitch receiver compromises the safety benefit it was designed to provide • The action of the electric pump can be heard as a rapid “clicking” sound, and a faint pulse can often be felt through the brake pedal — this is normal and indicates that the system is operating as intended • Four-wheel ABS also improves steering control while braking If space is available, demonstrate ABS in your parking lot or on an empty stretch of roadway. Apply the brakes quickly and have the customer listen for unfamiliar sounds associated with ABS. Then have the customer test the ABS to familiarize themselves with the normal brake pedal pulsation. BlockerBeam: Engineering drawing Second Generation Driver and Front Passenger Airbag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)(1) Standard on all models • The Second Generation Airbag Supplemental Restraint System, in conjunction with the threepoint safety belt system, is intended to help reduce injuries in certain moderate-to-severe frontal and near-frontal collisions. It is not a substitute for safety belts. Remind customers to always wear their safety belts, and that children under 12 years of age and infants in rear-facing child-safety seats should never ride in a seat equipped with an airbag BlockerBeam: Exposed (lower valance removed) BlockerBeam: Hidden by lower valance (1) Remind customers to always wear their safety belts and place children in the rear seat, properly restrained. 15 2000 EXCURSION Safety/Secur ity cont’d Hiller Ford Inc. 6455 South 108 Street Franklin, WI 53132 www.hillerford.com Adjustable-height three-point front lap/shoulder safety belts Remote Keyless Entry System with driver’s-side door keypad Standard on all models Standard on all models • Adjustable front shoulder restraint height provides increased comfort • Unlocks all doors and the liftgate at the same time • Three-point safety belts are standard for all outboard seating positions • Includes a Panic button which, when activated, sounds the horn and flashes the exterior lights • Adjustable D-rings allow personalized adjustment of front-seat safety belt height and driver’s-side second-row safety belts • Transmitters can be used to lock and unlock doors from up to 33 feet away • Automatic locking retractors (ALRs) are standard on all outboard passenger seating positions to help secure portable child-safety seats (always place children in the rear seats, properly restrained) Keyless entry key fob • Driver’s-side door-mounted keypad allows keyless entry with a preprogrammed personal identification number Have your customer sit in the vehicle, press the button above the safety belt anchor, and move the anchor up or down until the shoulder belt is in a comfortable position. Explain that the specially coded key transmits a radio signal to a small transmitter in the steering column. When the wrong key is inserted, the vehicle won’t start. This is why it’s such an effective anti-theft system. 16 2000 EXCURSION Quality/Reliabi lity/Durabi lity Hiller Ford Inc. 6455 South 108 Street Franklin, WI 53132 www.hillerford.com Ladder-type frame Roadside Assistance Standard on all models Standard on all models Every new Ford owner is automatically enrolled in the Roadside Assistance Program.
