Newsletter - Triple Creek RV Park
January 2012 Triple Creek RV Music Park Newsletter This picture was snapped by one of our residents. People come from everywhere and carry the fame of Triple Creek to the four corners of the world. Its really great being part of this life style. Our Favorite Native: Pileated “Woodpicker” We‘re wondering if McDonalds is scoping out Lola‘s cinnamon rolls and thinking about adding them as a featured item as part of their ―home baked‖ offerings. Thanks Lola! Back by popular demand is the Dutch Oven cooking. We will be doing this event on Bluegrass weekend (4th weekend in January). Come watch the boys at play as they use their experience to craft some of the best meals that you can imagine that would come out of an event like this. We have some new folks willing to show their stuff so come join in the fun. Music Schedule: • 1st Saturday weekend: Gospel • 2nd Saturday weekend: Open Jam (Pickin’) • 3rd Saturday weekend: Classic Country • 4th Saturday weekend: Bluegrass • 5th Saturday weekend: Open Jam (Pickin’) unless Special Activity 1 (see Website) planned Thanks to the bands that entertained us on Bluegrass weekend. Just like everyone else, we are being affected by the hard economic times. It has always been a balancing act to keep Triple Creek Jam Shack going in the black, but in recent months the balance hasn’t been so good. The crowds have been good, the shows have been great, the jams have been good, but the balance sheet has been out of balance. Like that cup of coffee? Enjoy the lights being on whenever you need them to be? Like to have the kitchen available? Your donations are what keeps the Jam Shack going. Donate to the Pink Pig when you can. 3 Page 4 Triple Creek RV Music Park You asked for them! Triple Creek RV is now a dealer for Blueridge Guitars!!! And we have a nice selection that will be available at the park starting next week: All are in Superior hard cases with plush lining BR-160 CD-1510 – this one seems to be the favorite of several of our musicians! BR-70 CD-1510 – beautiful gold tuners! As well as great sound – this is the one that Richard Langley has been playing lately! BR-343 CD-1514 – 000-14 Gospel Guitar! Beautiful inlay work! Now available in full-size dreadnaught as well!! (Also in stock!!) Finally finished! Hope to deliver it before Christmas. I ordered the wrong case and I`m waiting delivery on the correct one. Wrong case? good excuse to start another instrument to fill it! The wood is sycamore with bloodwood bindings & back strip. Ebony fret board and peghead overlay. Quarterman cone and Beard # 14 cast aluminum spider. Sounds great! No I`ve not changed my name! The customer wanted his name on the peghead so that`s what we did. I have my tag visable through the "falling leafs" sound hole. Have a great Christmas and Happy New Year! Dale Mitchell 4 Page 5 Triple Creek RV Music Park Eric and Mary Harris have been visiting us for several years now. They just stayed with us for a month and have move on now for the season. They went with Karen to perform on the weekly radio show where we promote Triple Creek and let the surrounding neighbors know more about us. We always look forward to your brief stay, and can‘t wait until you come back next year. Every weekend the phone starts ringing. We have the same questions, and here are the typical conversations that occur weekend after weekend: Q—Are you having music this weekend? A—This is Triple Creek, we have music EVERY weekend of the year, including all holidays. Q—What time do you start playing? A—We have our pot luck supper at 5:00 and we usually start playing around 6:00 when everyone is finished eating. Q—Well, who is going to be there this weekend? A—We never know who is coming, but there is always a group, and we always have fun. Q—What is the charge to get in? A—Just a smile on your face. We don’t charge... Triple Creek on the World Wide Web If you enjoyed your stay here at Triple Creek, please go and post a note at www.tripadvisor.com. We have received many great reviews, but even more comments would be appreciated. The best form of advertisement is from our friends. Return of The Redhead Express They’re Coming! The Redhead Express and Walker Family Band consists of nine members of the Brett and Apryll Walker family. We just know them as family since they have been here several times. Well, they are coming to this area again, and will be performing at Triple Creek! This is a long time away, but we‘re helping them get ready. We want to welcome this group back to our area and enjoy their talents that have been on stage in both Branson and Nashville, and all around 6 the country touring— including a cruise ship back to A l a s k a ! Alisa We will also be talking about the next cruise opportunity from Galveston next January! Just remember the names: Kendra Meghan, LaRae Triple Creek RV Music Park Page 7 Triple Creek “LIVE” on KWUD radio. Radio has often been considered one of the most personal forms of media. It brings the business to the people right in the comfort of their very own homes. Karen is now talking on KWUD radio every Friday morning between 8:30 - 9:00 am. We‘re trying to get the word out about all the good things going on at Triple Creek & the existence of Bluegrass music.. She might even ask you to join her and play some music on the air! Thanks to Oscar Lyons, Charles Glenn, and Dean Bartholomew for doing that very thing on the Friday before Thanksgiving! Karen talks about the specific instrumentation, and how Bluegrass has a distinguishing characteristic of featuring two, three, or four parts harmony. Unlike mainstream country music, bluegrass is traditionally played on acoustic stringed instruments. The fiddle, five-string banjo, guitar, mandolin, and upright bass are often joined by the resonator guitar (also referred to as a Dobro) and harmonica. We hope Alvin‘s Blue grass jokes show up on radio! Mary and her auto harp were here again this year. Just to let you know, we often overlook the most obvious. It was Mary who suggested that we put up the ―White board‖ at the Jam Shack to notify people of times and events. The board is just what we needed, because word of mouth was not always working efficiently. Thanks for a great idea Mary. We have a suggestion box inside the Jam Shack for other great ideas. Please share your thoughts with us. BIRTHDAYS We are collecting birthdays (only the month), so we can celebrate birthday‘s once a month. Sign up next time you are in the Jam Shack. For our monthly birthday celebration, we have cake and ice cream. Our celebration is held after the big meal on Bluegrass weekend. Come join in the fun. 7 Page 8 Triple Creek RV Music Park New Year‘s Eve Party The New Year‘s party and dance here at Triple Creek was an absolute blast. We all danced the night away and brought in the new year as we watched events on the BIG screen. Thanks to Reuben, Brad & Kit for the wonderful dance music they provided for the evening. They are also know as the ―Sawhorse Cowboys‖… Be sure and come out next year as we do it all again. 8 Triple Creek RV Music Park Page 9 2012, the year of the hats Rob walked in with his cute little hat, and soon the entire crowd had to follow. We dug deep, and came out with our most clever creations. Chuck was sporting his that has some 30 years of vintage on it. Doylene was surely looking sharp in her Daniel Boone coon skin cap. It just made for a very interesting evening. 9 Page 10 Triple Creek RV Music Park We hope all of you know Eddy, but did you know that his buddy Leo lives out here at Triple Creek too. Just come out early on the weekend, and you‘ll see Leo pleasing all the kids as they go for rides. Welcome Leo Always remember that we have two 40’ Park Models (mobile homes) available for long or short term rental. They are perfect for a Snowbird, or someone needing temporary housing. Come live with us at Triple Creek. Its Time for those Banjo Jokes Q: What is the difference between a banjo and a South American Macaw? A: One is loud, obnoxious and noisy; the other is a bird. Q: What is the difference between a banjo and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle? A: You can tune a Harley. Q: What is the difference between a banjo and an Uzi submachine gun? A: An Uzi only repeats 40 times. Our Favorite Native: Pileated Woodpicker!! Q: Why does everyone hate a banjo right off? A: Saves time. Notice he is playing a guitar... Q: Why is the banjo player a fiddle player's best friend? A: Without him, the fiddle would be the most hated instrument on earth. Q: How can you tell the difference between all the banjo songs? A: By their names. Q: What is the most seldom heard comment made of banjo players? A: "Say, isn't that the banjo player's Porsche?" Q: What do you say to the banjo player in the three piece suit? A: Will the defendant please rise. 10 Page 11 Triple Creek RV Music Park Ken’s Mobile RV Repair & Service From Mild to Wild 936-239-2014 Ken Coates is available for all your RV repairs. Come stay with us at Triple Creek, while Ken performs your needed repairs. Ken can do just about type of repairs needed on any brand RV, from major to minor. The roof on your RV is a vital piece of protection, and is often neglected. Have Ken check it out just to insure all seams are properly caulked and can keep out that moisture that will cause costly body rot. Ken does a lot of roof replacement jobs, because of caulking that has gone bad. He accepts insurance & warranty jobs too! If you will call Ken and tell him what your problem is, and when you will be at Triple Creek, Ken will come to your site for all repairs. We would like feedback and Bluegrass articles from our readers. Tidbits or article(s) can be: an amusing quote; reviews of festivals or music conventions; behind the scenes reports of bands; technical; RV & campground reviews; or anything you feel would be of interest to Bluegrass enthusiasts. Articles may span more than one issue, and full credit will be given. Thanks to the people that wrote in after the last letter with comments: Dave & Judy Zent—David is doing very well. They are staying well & warm. Dale Mitchell— WOW! This news letter is turning into a real work of art! ( maybe I should say Mark!) And this month it opened right up full of good news about my favorite weekend destination. Ol` "shoeless" Mark will soon be shod as I plan to bring him some shoes since winter seems to be setting in. One thing I noticed: All the notices are prefaced with "Don`t forget----" Do some of you folks have a problem remembering? Yo pickin` buddy, Dale Carl Stump—Stump left a 3 wheeled bicycle here, and we gave it to a local needy couple. We then wrote Stump to tell him about his good deed. ―That‘s beautiful…. I (we) appreciate your thoughtfulness (always have). Anyway, I do miss Texas and am looking to get there before spring. As you know, house in Hinkley is history and I‘m undecided on Cameo. I might trade in for water touring!!!! Who knows??? Gerry Griffin— Thanks Marc! We enjoyed our stay. Everyone made us feel right at home. We'll be back. Lazydouble L Ranch (Tom & Pauline) - Have been trying to get over there to see and visit ya'll. Do you still have my special handicap place ready? Yes, your ―special‖ spot is ready. We keep that spot open year round just for you, so please come fill it again. Doug and Rachel—Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. We hope to come see you soon. Betty & Lloyd Dotson — Hi, This is Betty Dotson, tell JoAnn and Dean "Hello" for us. Love getting your Newsletter, planning on coming up in January when Bill and Lynda are there. BTW, for all of you that don‘t know, Betty and Lloyd live in Silsbee (about 20 miles away). They said they are going to make the entire trip to Triple Creek in one day. Josette Brown—Here are a few jingles—love the newsletter 11 Join Us for Pickin' in the Pines! Dirt Road Jingle — Contest Its time to vote! Pick your favorite. We‘re ready to put the best of the signs up and down the road. Each person can only vote once, but please pick your favorite saying from the following. You can pick one saying for entering the park and another for leaving the park. Therefore, you get a total vote in two sayings. Let us hear from you! After the voting, we will tell you who submitted which of the following sayings. Remember the ol‘ Burma Shave signs along the side of highways typically in groups of 6? Burma-Shave sign series appeared from 1925 to 1963 in most of the United States. Well, its been suggested that we at Triple Creek do the same thing. Therefore please send in your suggestions. The best suggestions will be posted along the dirt road. By the way, this suggestion was made by the Hite‘s at “Signs Today” here in Woodville. They were here one weekend enjoying the music, and Bill suggested we do a little something along the road. Well, lets do it. Get those jingle's sent in.. 1. Original Bass This is the tub bass that Karen saw while traveling in New York State. It is the basic model. Moving the "pump handle" up and down is what gives the bass the different pitches. The neck of this fine instrument is short enough to allow you to set down and play. This item comes in a cardboard box ready for your assembly, which is pretty much straight forward. If you are interested in purchasing such a refined instrument such as this, contact Karen , and she will tell you all the details. Deluxe Model This is the model that Karen has for herself. It can be seen in action here at the Creek almost any time there is music played. 2850 PR 8335 Woodville, TX 75979 Karen & Marc McConnell, Owners Always check our web site for current activities and schedules!!! Phone: 409-283-3799 Fax: 409-283-2244 E-mail: [email protected] T riple Creek is proud to be a member of the Better Business Bureau A special note from Karen & Marc. We appreciate all the wonderful friends that we have met since moving to Triple Creek several years ago. This is the type of life we wanted to live in our retirement, and all of you are making our dream come true. 13 BINGO Are you interested in playing BINGO? We host a ―White Elephant‖ BINGO every Monday evening. Just bring any White Elephant that you have laying around and donate as a prize. Its not only a great way to have fun, but its also a wonderful way to get rid of those little things around the house that just need to go. Triple Creek‘s Work campers Rob & Tonya will be leaving us this month. They are moving on, but we will surely miss them. You will still be able to order those famous pens that Rob makes by emailing him. He will send those pens from wherever they are. We wish them great adventures in their future travels and surely hope that we see them again here at Triple Creek. We know Ms Audrey will certainly miss Tonya, as Tonya was the person who constantly cleaned on the Jam Shack and was picking up trash around the park. Tonya was instrumental in installing more of the flowerbeds that we see around here. The flowerbeds will exist long after they are gone. We will remember you, but you‘ll be able to keep track of your friends through the very famous Triple Creek newsletter. Triple Creek‘s Work campers Please welcome John & Christine. These two came in for a weekend, and now will be staying on as Work campers. They have already been part of almost everything going on, and certainly do fit in. You‘ll love Christine, as her email address is Loves2cook. Now what does that tell you about her? John has some wonderful ideas of things he wants to get done around here, and we welcome his energy. Look for some great things to come! In fact. John is quite the outdoorsman. He and Gery have started work on the nature trail that was in poor shape after the hurricanes. They have started clearing the trail, and will soon start rebuilding the bridges. Look for a wonderful nature trail to be opened up again. If I‘m not wrong, I believe that Charles Glenn initially developed the trail, and will probably have a hand in re-opening it. We can‘t wait for the results. Spring is coming John, get er‘ going! 14 Join Us for Pickin' in the Pines! February 24-25, 2012 Well, here are the two proud mechanics. What you see in the background is the old jeep that has been around here for years, but was abandoned. Well, with a little bit of love, and a few parts, its up and running again. Apparently, this jeep has some Triple Creek history, so its back to life again as it has joined the family one more time. On the first day out, these two ventured the ―treacherous‖ mountains all the way over to the barn and back. They were victorious. Congratulations to both John and Gery on their major feat! http://sabinebluegrass.com/ If you‘re looking for the latest Bluegrass news, check out Sabine Bluegrass, your Information Center for recurring bluegrass and bluegrass gospel music in the Central South. The Sabine Bluegrass Update is a free weekly newsletter with the latest announcements and reminders of up-coming events. You're invited to subscribe. Sabine Bluegrass supports our region's Bluegrass Associations, many of whom are hosts for this site. You are always welcome at association activities, either as a guest or member. Association newsletters provide you much additional information about bluegrass in your area. While you're there, don't forget to sign the guest book. So tune up that old guitar, banjo, mandolin, or fiddle, load up the RV, and head down the road. I'll meet you there. Gerald Block Editor Would you like to attend events at Triple Creek RV, and do not have an RV? You might want to consider contacting: Winnaway Bed & Breakfast Hosts: Susie & Dave Winn (Phone: 409-331-9944) 5681 FM 1746, Woodville, TX 75979 Web: www.winnawaybedbreakfast.com / FAX: 409-331-9906 E-Mail: [email protected] You can thank the work campers for all that they do as well! They are all a big help to keep Triple Creek RV the wonderful place we all enjoy… THANKS! The Winn’s and their family have supported TCRV for years and are wonderful hosts! Camping Discounts—After the last Newsletter went out, we had a request for camping discounts. Well, Triple Creek RV does offer four (4) different discount club memberships. Not only that, but we will give your camping club a discount. If you have a suggestion for a specific monthly discount, just let us know, and we may try it. We appreciate your ideas. 15 FOR SALE , Dudley has a like new 5 th wheel hitch for sale. See him, and he will make you a good deal (see Marc, and he will make you an even better deal just to get it out of the shop). The hitch comes with rails too. $200. HURRY, HURRY, it wont last long. Call 713-851-1262 Welcome to our returning snowbirds! Of course we all know who our mystery star is that was featured in last month‘s newsletter. It was no other than our very own Dean Bartholomew. He and Jo Anne have returned for another year, and we're very excited to have such a celebrity in our midst. 16 GOT BREAKFAST? Ms Audrey puts together this country breakfast every time she knows a crowd is a‘ comin‘. Biscuits & gravy, eggs, sausage, bacon, grits, potatoes and plenty of coffee and juice. She also serves home made jellies and jams. Ms Audrey asks that you support her cooking habit with financial donations so she can keep buying food and cooking. Dudley really likes it when she cooks, so please throw some money in Audrey‘s bucket that is on the counter. Her cookin‘ is mmm, mmm good. CHAIRS FOR SALE The last of the great thinkers We‘re not sure what Gary was thinking about, but he was caught in action here. By the way, we have many of these chairs for sale. Price of the chairs was $5.00 each, but we need to make room, so they are now $1.00. Please see Bob Honey, and he will make you one 'Honey‖ of a deal on the chairs that we have left. Notice, your chair will not come equipped with a great thinker. Marc‘s GREAT PUMPKIN. Well, it all started out as a bet. A friend of Marc‘s bet him as to who could grow the biggest pumpkin. Here it is in the back of Karen‘s golf cart. It‘s a true prize. We plan on getting the seeds out of it and replanting next year. With a little fertilizer, mulch and lots of love, we expect this years GREAT PUMPKIN to be even bigger and grander. Oh and the bet….well Marc won. You see the friend‘s pumpkin patch was invaded by bugs and as the pumpkins were starting to get ripe, the bugs ate the stems and their pumpkins never finished growing. 17 Custom Pens Handmade – one at a time These pens are hand-crafted here at Triple Creek RV Music Park. Other options and pen styles with a variety of wood and acrylic are available. Great for graduation, Christmas, gifts, etc. Laser engraving is also available for personalized items. See Rob McDonald for details. Bullet Pen with Camo - $25.00 Bullet Pen with Antler - $30.00 PROBLEM: The beautiful ―Texas‖ pen pictured above was borrowed from the Jam Shack during the Thanksgiving festivities… If you meant to pay for it and left without doing so, please contact the park ASAP so we can clear up this problem. If you took it with some other intent, you are part of the problem that needs to be cleared up to keep the Jam Shack going! It has never before been an issue to leave any thing at the park in the Jam Shack — instruments, etc. However, recently there have been multiple items turn up missing. We would hate to need to start locking the building and causing discomfort for everyone due to the sticky fingers of a few. IF IT DOES NOT BELONG TO YOU, LEAVE IT ALONE! PLEASE!!! If you see something going on that you feel could be related to this problem, please let Karen or Marc or one of the Workampers know ASAP! 18 FOR SALE AT TRIPLE CREEK Karen and Marc have decided to sell our Airstream Travel Trailer. Its here in the park, so take a look at it. This is a classic Airstream, with its very unique lines. Although we will be selling this, we will still have the two park models for rent. Vintage Airstreams have enjoyed a recent rise in popularity as people look back to simpler, less hectic times—escaping the cheap throw away quality that exists today—seeking instead the high quality ―Machine Age‖ design and craftsmanship of the early Airstreams. Allen said his boat, motor and trailer need to go. Pictured here is what he is ready to sell. Take a look at it, and please realize that if you buy it, you must bring fish here for all of us to enjoy. We keep things like this in the family. Be your own boss, buy your own dump truck. All you gear jamming‘ diesel demons will just love having this beast around the place. Take a look at this workhorse. Its ready to go to your place and start working. You have seen it running around Triple Creek for years now, but we‘re ready to move on to something else. This can be yours! See Marc for a great deal. Here is another Triple Creek maintenance item that we‘re ready to sell. It too is ready to go. Just hook on to it, and start hauling what ever you need. Electric over hydraulic dump makes hauling your load just as easy as turning a switch. Don‘t miss this, as it too will soon be leaving for a new home. 19 I never made a fortune Its probably too late now Oh, but I don‘t worry about that much ‗Cause I‘m happy anyhow As I go along life‘s journey I‘m reaping better than I sowed I‘m drinking from my saucer ―Cause my cup has overflowed Ain‘t got a lot of riches Sometimes the going‘s rough But I‘ve got a friend in Jesus And that makes me rich enough I thank God for all his Blessings on me And the mercy that He‘s bestowed I‘m drinking from my saucer ―Cause my cup has overflowed Oh sure, I‘ve been thru some storms And yes, I‘m sure there were times when my Well, my Faith must have got a little thin But you know what it seemed like One day all at once, those dark clouds broke And that old sun, she started shinin‘ again. So Lord, help me not to grumble and complain About the tough rows I have hoed I‘m drinking from my saucer ―Cause my cup has overflowed And if I should go on living If the way gets steep and rough I won‘t ask for other Blessings ―Cause I‘m already Blessed enough May I never be too busy To help another bear his load And I‘ll keep drinking from my saucer, Lord ―Cause my cup has overflowed Yes, I‘ll keep drinking‘ from my saucer, Lord ―Cause my cup has overflowed. 20
