JULIE ERIKSSEN BREATHE MANAGEMENT: Laurent Perriot / [email protected] BOOKING: Hervé Cocotier (worldsoulprod.com) / [email protected] Biographie "It is through the duality of her personality that we get an understanding of who Julie Erikssen is. Chic but spontaneous, romantic but determined, she distinguishes herself by the ease with which she navigates with virtuosity between angelic emotion and mind-blowing blues!" Julie Erikssen felt the need for music from a very young age but waited until she was five to begin by studying classical piano and music theory at the Conservatory of Brest. She swore by Chopin's Nocturnes at the time, but while exploring her parents' record collection, she discovered jazz through the albums of Louis Armstrong, Sydney Bechet, or Duke Ellington, but mostly she discovered singing. She was impressed by Ella Fitzgerald's vocal acrobatics and joyful swing, as well as by Chet Baker's elegance. Vocal jazz brought her to gospel and the blues, Her early teenage years were a period of folk and rock, which led her to learn the guitar and give her first concerts at the tender age of 13. She was spotted on the Zenith stage in Caen and signed a contract with Sony Music France under the name of Jody. She released the singles "Dans ce monde" and "Entre l'ombre et la lumière" experiencing the adrenaline of big venues, the filming of big budget clips and being in television studios (The Palais Omnisport of Bercy, the "Fête de la musique on France 2 at the Eiffel Tower, Fort Boyard etc.). With her incessant thirst for discovery, she agreed to work on several projects of soul music, electronic music, hip-hop and African music before forming her first jazz quartet, at last realizing her childhood dream of singing the standards. The best musicians in French swing, such as Franck Amsallem, Laurent Courthaliac and Fred Nardin soon accompanied her and today she performs every month at the Parisian jazz club, the Duc des Lombards, playing the After Hours sessions. She was spotted on the Internet in 2013 by the casting team of the television show "The Voice", and agreed to take part in it. She performed a touching piano-vocal "Underwater", a version particularly appreciated by Mika, the composer, international pop artist and member of the jury. "I am so flattered, I cannot say how happy this makes me" he responded, bowing. She chose to join the team of the artist Florent Pagny and was then "stolen" by another singer, Jenifer, during the "Battles". The show was a fabulous spotlight for the release of her CD "Breathe" and although this extraordinary experience has added to her impressive path, she has kept a true authenticity. For guaranteed emotion, allow yourself to be seduced by her charm and sincerity. Breathe Julie Erikssen is of the generation of young artists whose appeal is obvious. At first sight she is a jazz singer with inherent swing and careful phrasing. But in this three title EP "Breathe" taken from an upcoming album of original compositions, she also reveals herself as a touching "story teller" and melodist. Her poetic universe is presented to us here thanks to a musicality at the service of intimate, sincere, moving lyrics. Her life changed following the loss of a loved one two years ago. She was devastated and went through a bit of a melt down. But she soon managed to refocus her energy and grew stronger, finally starting over. Armed with unlimited positivity, she broke free, ultimately daring, reconnecting with music and suddenly found what she needed: balance. That's when she started writing again, her freedom found at last, her relief, but also the difficult steps in a battle against automatisms and unpleasant trade-offs to free will. Thus "Breathe" is a good summary of the emotions that will be expressed in the album, from disappointment to hope (Breathe) and relief (Blue Skies) to elation (Open).
