The Sinnissippi Foundation serving our communities
A message from the Sinnissippi Foundation Board of Directors
Dear friends of the Foundation,
It has been heartening and touching to
see the outpouring of support you have
given the Foundation in the past year. You
have recognized that it is these challenging
economic times that also see
the greatest need for those
who might otherwise have to
do without.
It has been equally
heartening to see the number
of lives the Foundation has
been able to touch because
of your generosity.
Without your support,
a family might have gone
without heat or might not have found safe
housing. Without your support, a family might
not have enjoyed a holiday meal. Without your
support, an individual may have gone without
vital medications or the treatment they need.
Through your generosity, the Foundation
has been able to make a commitment to
improving the health of children and families in
our communities through significant support of
the Community That Cares Project (CTC). There
is also now
a CTC Project Fund that donors can

directly support. This ground breaking project
is blazing new territory in the collaboration
of agencies and coordination of care for
children with social/emotional needs. CTC has
been instrumental in helping parents get the
information and support they need to improve
their overall family wellness.
The Foundation was able to
establish a second new fund in
2014, the Jim Sarver Education
Fund, which will allow
Sinnissippi Centers’ clients to
obtain their GED. Achieving
this step will allow them to go
on to further their education or
advance in their employment.
As you read the pages of this annual report,
you will see what has been accomplished
through your support of the Foundation and
what you can look forward to in the months to
come.
Thank you again for helping the Sinnissippi
Foundation meet so many needs. Together, we
will continue our mission: Helping individuals
and families, and increasing awareness of
mental health, substance use and other

The Community That Cares (CTC)
Project continues to help kids and
families
live
healthier,
happier
lives.
CTC’s
major
funding
source,
Children and families are the center
a 5-year
of the CTC project
grant,
ends in December 2015. In 2016,
CTC will rely heavily on donations
to continue their work. Recognizing
the importance of continuing the
project, The Sinnissippi Foundation
has partnered with the community
to raise funds to support CTC. In
addition, the Foundation established
the Community That Cares Project
Fund as an option for donors to
designate their support.
CARING More Than Ever
A record level of requests were
received in 2014 by the Foundation
to meet the emergency needs of
individuals and families. 133 CARES
Fund requests were granted, totaling
over $15,500. CARES requests help
to provide safe housing or prevent
eviction, help individuals obtain vital
medications, or keep the heat on
during the cold winter months. Since
2008, when requests began to rise
rapidly, there has been an increase
of over 500% in funds distributed. The
Foundation has been able to keep
pace with the requests thanks to the
generosity of donors and sponsors.

Nearly 150 individuals attended
the annual Wellness and Recovery
Celebration held at Sinnissippi
Centers’ Dixon office. Sponsored
by both Sinnissippi Centers and
the Sinnissippi Foundation, the
annual Wellness and Recovery
Celebration is held each September
during Recovery Month. Those
who are in recovery from a mental
illness, a drug or alcohol problem,
their family members and other
supporters, as well as families seeking
wellness all enjoy attending the
annual celebration. Speakers tell
their unique stories of recovery to
encourage others to seek treatment
and to continue their recovery.

Celebrating Milestones
The Sinnissippi Foundation’s annual
Expressions Art Sale and Reception
and the art gallery where it is held,
The Next Picture Show, celebrated
a common milestone in 2014. It was
the 10th Anniversary year for both
the Foundation’s art fund raiser and
the gallery. It was a wonderful first
ten years together. Expressions offers
paintings, photographs, and other
genres of art for sale. The pieces
are donated by local and regional
artists. In addition, there is a wide
variety of silent auction items up for
bid. The 10th annual Expressions was
notable in another way: The event
raised more funds than in any other
year, nearly $17,000.

A Wonderful Gift
The Sinnissippi Foundation’s Holiday
Appeal received a wonderful gift:
Donations increased 66% compared
to the previous year. The appeal was
sent to individuals, organizations, and
businesses just prior to Thanksgiving.
Historically, donations continue to
arrive through early spring. To date,
the 2014 Holiday Appeal has raised
just over $8,800.00. Some of the
increase can be credited to the
newest funds of the Foundation; the
Community That Cares Project and
the Jim Sarver Eduction Funds.

A popular cultural event was revived,
in part, due to the support of the
Sinnissippi Foundation. The Taste of
Fiesta was held on September 6, 2014,
in Sterling.

A Few New Faces
In 2014, the Sinnissippi
Foundation welcomed three
new board members: Jon
Berens, Carol Nieman, and
Paula Sherman. All three
are active in community
volunteer work. Berens is also
the President/CEO of Northern
Illinois Cancer Treatment Center
located in Dixon. All three have
been welcome additions to
the board. Board members
are often seen participating in
Foundation projects and events.
Getting More Active
The Sinnissippi Foundation
has gone through a period
of change. Beginning in early
2014, the Foundation’s Board of
Directors began meeting more
frequently and engaging in
more strategic planning. There
has been a renewed focus
on being more active in the
direction and the day to day
activities of the Foundation.
Helping to Afford Care
One initiative supported by
donations to the Foundation
is the Client Fee Assistance
Program. Even with coverage
under the Affordable Care
Act, some individuals still
cannot afford some, or all, of
their treatment. Through this
program, Sinnissippi Centers’
clients can receive additional
services. Ongoing care is key
to maintaining mental wellness
and avoiding crises.

11th Annual Expressions Art Sale and Reception
The Expressions Art Sale and Reception is a very special event of the Foundation. It showcases
art from local and regional artists and features a wide variety of silent auction items. The night
of the reception is especially fun with artists, sponsors, Foundation supporters and others in
attendance. We often hear, “There’s something for everyone at Expressions”. There is no cost
for admission to Expressions.

23rd Annual Sinnissippi Foundation Golf Open
Each August, golfers gather for the much anticipated Sinnissippi Foundation Golf Open. The
36 available foursomes usually fill up by the registration deadline. The Foundation’s wonderful
crew of volunteers go all out to make sure everyone has a great day supporting the
Foundation. A registration form will be available on-line at www.sinnissippi.com in March.

7th Annual Gardenstock Art & Music Festival
Just two days after the Golf Open is another opportunity to enjoy a great day of fun and
sun. The annual Gardenstock Art & Music Festival features local, regional, national, and even
world famous musical talent. In addition, there are dozens of artists’ booths. Gardenstock
is organized by, and held on the grounds of Distinctive Gardens in Dixon, Illinois. Proceeds
benefit the Sinnissippi Centers’ Youth Garden Project. The festival is best described as an
event for all ages where you can relax and enjoy a day of music and art. Admission is at the
gate on the day of the event and is $6.00 per person, $1.00 for kids 12 and under.
