Mission Statement The Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of Ogdensburg by their vowed lives, express their love of God through the pursuit of a closer union with God and the dear neighbor. Through the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy, the Sisters proclaim and live this great love in a spirit of unity and reconciliation. History Sisters of St. Joseph Watertown, NY 13601 www.ssjwatertown.org First Foundation in Watertown The Sisters of St. Joseph began in LePuy, France, in 1650 under the direction and guidance of a Jesuit priest, Jean Pierre Medaille. Sisters brought the charism of Fr. Medaille to Watertown and to the Diocese of Ogdensburg in 1880. Presently they serve God and the dear neighbor in the North Country through ministries in administration, education, music, pastoral care, campus ministry, social work, prison ministry, healthcare, and most importantly, prayer.
