Chain Counter
User Guide
version 1.00
Introduction
The CC-770 is a chain counter system that can be used to measure the total length of the
anchor chain that is released under water. The system is designed to measure the chain length
for two anchor motors at the same time and it can be fitted to any motor independently of its
torsion direction. System is also fully configurable to match various motors sizes
Connection
The CC-700 consists of the main unit, the LCD/keyboard unit and the six sensors and two
magnets that are installed at the anchor motors. The general connection for the main unit is
shown in the next figure (1). The LCD/keyboard is connected to the main unit via a 16 wire
ribbon cable. If a longer cable must be used, its length should be more than 3m. The CC-770 can
be powered within the range of 9-32 Volt DC. The nominal value for the power supply is 24 Volt
DC.
The CC-700 can be connected to the nuova marea NaviConning system via the RS-422
output. The total length of the chain released for each of the two anchors is then displayed at the
maneuvering menu.

Figure (1): CC-700 general connection diagram
The six sensors should be installed as shown in the next image (2) with an angle of 120
degrees between each other. One of the two poles of each sensor should be tide to the common
(-) pole of the power supply, while the other should be connected to the CC-700 input connector.
The way that the S1-S6 sensors are connected to the CC-700 main unit is shown at the figure (3)
and depends on the type of the anchor motor and its torsion direction. The magnet should be
fixed on the motor leaving a maximum distance of 1cm when it is against each of the 3 sensors.
The length of the arc between two successive sensors should be the same with the length of the
chain that has been released or drawn. This value is a variable that should be stored the CC-700
using the procedure described at the programming section of this manual.

Operation
The length of the chain that is release from the starboard anchor motor is displayed on the
right side of the lower line of the LCD and the length of the chain released from the port on the
left side.
When the power supply is not applied at the CC-700 the value of the length for both
anchor chains is reset to “000.0m”. The user can also reset independently the indicated value for
each of the two anchor chain motors with the procedure described in the programming section of
this manual.
Programming
There are two functions that can be performed from the compact LCD/keyboard that is
supplied with the CC-700 system:
1.Reset of the indicated value for the port or starboard chain counter independently. This
need could occur only when the anchors are up and the indication is not equal to zero.
This action can be performed from the user. To reset port anchor chain counter the user
must press “OK” to enter the setup menu then navigate with the F1, F2 buttons until the
“2. Reset port” menu is displayed and then press “OK” to confirm the reset procedure.
Respectively the user should navigate through the setup menus until the “3. Reset stbd” is
displayed and then press the “OK” button to reset the starboard chain counter.
2. Setup of the value in meters for length of the arc between two subsequent sensors. This
value is essential for the CC-700 to calculate the length of the chain that has been
released and varies for different anchor motors. This variable must be inputed by the
technician that performs the installation and can be found under the menu “1. Arc value”
in the setup menu. By pressing “OK” the installer can rotate the cursor between the 4
digits of the variable and increase or decrease the value with the F1, F2 keys. When the
value is correctly inputed, the “ESC” key must be pressed to save the the data into the
eeprom and then exit to the main display.
The complete functions of the CC-700 keyboard are shown at the following flowchart:
