Join us in an engaging hands-on celebration of cultures, as we learn about the various countries represented by the citizens of our own hometown. Minecrafters rejoice! We have the summer event just for you. Join us for four days of Minecraftia as we play on the library server, create Minecraft projects and learn how to mod. Join us for a gaming evening with such favorites as Ticket to Ride, King of Tokyo, Munchkin, Catan and more for teens and adults. Makerspace Workshops What is a Makerspace? Makerspace: Hackathon Makers are a collaborative community of all ages who share a passion for making things and who are engaged in experimentation, innovation and creativity. Our Makerspace merges DIY, craft, art, electronics, programming, math, science and engineering into projects for both young people and their mentors. Our goal is to support and grow the Maker movement in our local community through experimental play. We aim to encourage and enable young people to try new things, learn by doing and build the confidence that comes from guided problem solving. If you dream it, you can do it – at the public library. In this class, children will work on advancing their motor skills and coordination. Children will be introduced to the gymnastics equipment & taught how to properly use different apparatus. Parents will be required to attend this class & assist the coach with their tot for the full 45 minutes. Developmental: Children must be 3 years of age. This class is for children advancing from Adult & Tot, or for those children who have never attended a gymnastics class before. Children will be introduced to gymnastics equipment & taught how to properly use different apparatus. Beginning Gymnastics: Children must be 5 years of age. This class is for children advancing from Developmental class. Proper form will be taught on all apparatus & advanced skill on the bars and beam will be taught. Cartwheels, round-offs & handstands will be introduced. Intermediate Gymnastics: Children will be taught independence with their skills & will begin to perform skills on their own. Children will begin to work on backward walkovers, step skip cartwheels & running round-offs. Advanced floor skills will begin to be taught on the beam as well. Advanced Gymnastics: Children will begin working on their front walkovers, standing back handspring, running round-off back handsprings & back handsprings series. Children in this class will focus on the basics of cheerleading such as jumps, motions, & simple tumbling. The house sits very close to the intersection of the old El Camino Real de los Tejas and La Calle de Norte and was home to many early businessmen, bankers, and political leaders including Thomas J. Rusk, Bennet Blake and William Ochiltree. This hands-on museum includes a fully functioning smokehouse, blacksmith shop and chicken coop as well as heirloom gardens and a sugarcane mill. LaNana Cost: Free The Sterne-Hoya House Museum and Library is an 1830 dogtrot house built by prominent merchant and Texas Revolution leader, Adolphus Sterne. Cost: Free The Nacogdoches Railroad Depot was built by Southern Pacific Railways to replace the original wooden depot and opened on April 3 of 1911. Trails & Lakes Lake Nacogdoches TrailS Lake Nacogdoches is a 2210 acre reservoir located 10 miles southwest of the City on FM 225. There are three pavilions, a swimming area, a fishing pier, & a boat ramp in the west side park. There are also tables, a swimming area & another boat ramp on the east side of the lake. The Nacogdoches trail system is over 8 miles of both paved & unpaved walking and/or biking paths. The trails are equipped with water fountains and emergency phones & patrons are encouraged to enjoy the wooded scenery safely during the daytime.
