Dear TASIS Friends,
The Gala on April 25th is a special evening prepared just for you! All proceeds will
benefit our wonderful Campo Science building. This event not only brings us together
to celebrate and have fun but it also underscores our unity and strength as a
community. I am very proud to announce that one of the science labs will be named
the “TPA Middle School Lab” in honor of the TPA’s exceptional support and
contribution to the school.
I invite you to browse through this booklet to see all our sponsors, who have been

ILLUSTRIOUS ANCESTOR
Situated just in the middle of
the homonymous estate, the
villa La Lomellina was built
around 1620 by the powerful
Genoese family lomeilini,
from whom it takes its name.
During almost four centuries,
only three families have
owned the estate.
The last being the one of Count Edilio
Raggio, Marquis D' Azeglio, the great
grandfather of the current co-owner.
A very successful business man, Count
Raggio gave a new impulse to wine
production at La Lomellina, that started

“The photos Debbie Harry and Wendy Whitelaw are part of a series of
40 portraits called Figurines which were taken from 1977 to 1984 on the
roof of my loft situated between Broadway and Bleecker Street in New
York. Many of the most interesting female characters in this work
animated the cultural and nocturnal life of 80s New York, and Blondie’s
Debbie Harry and Wendy Whitelaw are a perfect example”.
Both works were on show in the exhibition: “Edo Bertoglio. Ring flash”,
curated by Mariuccia Casadio, May - July 2014, Cortesi Gallery, Lugano.
“Figurines (1978-82) is an extraordinary collection of portraits featuring
iconic figures from the New York punk/new-wave scene. By observing
the lineaments, expressions, and permutations of the female face, Edo
Bertoglio has borne witness to his era and told his own story. In his
portraits of young urban idols of the late Seventies and early Eighties
finds a fascination with identity that has evolved through the stages of
a life spent in Paris, London, and New York. It is a full immersion in the
magic and mores of the different generations, cultures, and scenes that
the Swiss-born photographer has documented in his pictures”
(Mariuccia Casadio in “Edo Bertoglio. Ringflash”, catalogue of the
exhibition, Cortesi Gallery, 2014).
Edo Bertoglio was born in 1951 in Lugano, Switzerland. After earning his
degree in film direction and editing from the Conservatoire Libre du
Cinéma Français in Paris, he moved first to London, and then in 1976 to
New York, where he remained for fourteen years. He worked as a staff
photographer for Andy Warhol’s Interview, documenting the artistic and
musical life of figures from the downtown scene of the Seventies and
Eighties such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Debbie Harry, and John Lurie,
and his pictures appeared in the leading fashion, music, art and pop
culture magazines. He directed the films Downtown 81 and Face Addict.
He moved back to Lugano in 1990, where he continues to work as a
photographer and documentary filmmaker.

Gioni David Parra was born in the province of Pisa in 1962. He is a
painter, sculptor and scenographer. After years of technical and
thematic research and refinement, he has found and established
his own very personal pictorial language. This visual language is a
complex one, and sometimes many different techniques make up
a single work. His approach is often formalist, and the play with
reliefs suggests an overlapping between painting and sculpture
that constitutes the work.
Parra currently lives and works in Lido di Camaiore, Viareggio, in
the province of Lucca. He has worked with many prestigious
galleries; several of his works are in Italian museums and
foundations, and also in international collections. His work has
been shown in galleries across Italy, as well as in Berlin, Bangkok,
Moscow, London, Lugano and New York.

Christine Streuli is a successful Swiss artist living in Berlin. In 2007 she
represented Switzerland at the Venice Biennial and in 2014 she took part
in the Sydney Biennial. She had solo exhibitions at Helmhaus Zurich
(2009), Kunstverein Oldenburg (2009), Museum Marta Herford in
Germany (2010), Kunstmuseum Luzern (2013) and Haus am Waldsee,
Berlin (2013).
In the context of contemporary painting she holds a special position:
she operates with a multifaceted sign language that draws on the most
varied sources from art history to Pop culture. Using symmetry, reflection
and repetition, the artist develops patterns and ornamental structures.
The multilayered composition of her paintings derives not only from the
superimposition of these elements, but also from the deliberate
combination of different painterly approaches. Streuli is not a classical
artist painting in the traditional way: she rarely paints with the brush. She
often uses transfer techniques, as stencils, sprays and decalcomania.
Despite this transposition and the meditative distance created, her
paintings are very direct and emotional, not least because of the signs
and the daring coloration.
Monica De Cardenas founded her gallery in Milano in 1992. In 2007 she
opened a second gallery in an old Engadin house in Zuoz / St. Moritz
and in 2014 a gallery space in Lugano. She represents international
contemporary artists such as Stephan Balkenhol, Alex Katz, Gianluca Di
Pasquale, Markus Raetz,Thomas Struth and others.The current exhibition
in Lugano is a solo show by Christine Streuli, lasting until May 30th.
