Maple Road 1707-1711 Livernois Road Troy, Michigan CINEMAS BUILDING NEW THEATRE IN TROY, EXPECTED TO BRING 70 NEW JOBS TO THE AREA MJR Digital cinemas has announced it will build a new movie theatre in Troy in September. The MJR Troy Grand will be located on the southeast corner of Maple Road and Livernois, at the site of a former Kmart store. The theatre is expected to open late April or early May 2014. “The City of Troy is so proud to partner with MJR in transforming the Maple Road-Livernois corner into a first class entertainment destination” Mayor Dane Slater said. MJR is an outstanding Michigan owned and operated company bringing quality entertainment to our community” The theatre will also have other elements of entertainment besides watching movies. In the lobby, the theatre will feature the MJR Studio Bar & Lounge. The company also said that the new theatre will have continuous movie previews playing on big screens in the lobby. There will also be five auditoriums that can show high definition 3-D Films. The MJR Digital Cinema said it is different from “typical” movie theatres. The theatre will include “over stuffed leather-like” lounge chairs that will be three to four times larger than other movie theatres. The 74,000 square foot structure will house 15 big screens and seat up to 450 moviegoers. People can expect some of the company’s old policies to remain the same The MJR company said “MJR’s free refill policy on pop and popcorn, portion friendly, Movie Rewards Program will stay the same. “Troy has great demographics and is the perfect community in which to build a brand new and truly state of the art facility.” MJR CEO and Founder Michael Mihaich said. Amber Apartment Properties is developing a new apartment building two blocks north on the east side of Livernois between Vermont and Birchwood. There will be 35 upscale, luxury studio apartments, aimed at automotive and medical professions. They will include roof top patio access, a full kitchen and washer/dryer in each apartment. Troy is focusing on the Maple and Livernois intersection in 2015, including development of public transportation between this corner and Big Beaver.
