Day 1 Paris, City of Light
Group arrival at Paris airport where you will be welcomed by your guide (flight
arrangements at your own discretion) and coach transfer to Paris. Sightseeing
tour of the city’s classic landmarks : the Champs Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel
Tower, the Invalides and grand avenues. Take a ride to the 56th floor of the
Montparnasse Tower for unrivalled views of the city stretching out before you (an
aperitif at the Tower whilst you admire the views is an optional extra). Check-in
to your hotel in Paris. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2 Heart of Paris and the River Seine
Sightseeing tour in the historic heart of Paris, taking in the Hôtel de Ville, the Ile
de la Cité, site of the very fi rst settlers, and stunning Notre-Dame (pedestrian
access only), the elegant Place des Vosges and the Marais district (walking
tour possible). Free time for lunch then take to the river, on a traditional “bateau
mouche”, to admire the beautiful bridges and monuments near the riverbanks.
The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure, whether it be shopping,
strolling by the Seine or taking in the Champs Elysées. Return to the hotel for
dinner and overnight.
Day 3 Versailles and Montmartre
After breakfast leave for Versailles and a tour of the Royal Chateau with its famous Hall of Mirrors and sumptuous Royal apartments. Free time for lunch then
return to Paris and take the tourist train up to the Place du Tertre, at the heart of
Montmartre, full of portrait painters. The imposing Sacré-Coeur Basilica is just
a few streets away. With its steep stairways, and corners of greenery, the area
still retains a distinct village feel. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 Chambord Castle
Breakfast then set off for Chambord. Lunch at your leisure then a visit to Chambord Castle, one of the largest in the Loire, and also one of the loveliest. Built
by Francois 1st, it’s a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, surrounded by
extensive parkland, though nowadays the hunting grounds are a game reserve.
Check-in to your hotel in the Tours region. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5 Chenonceau and troglodyte dwellings
Chenonceau was home to the ladies of the Court during the Renaissance, and
after breakfast, leave to visit this delightful Castle, its graceful arches spanning
the River Cher in an idyllic setting. Free time for lunch then on to Bourre for a
guided tour of the extraordinary troglodyte dwellings, hewn from the cliff on
three levels, and to learn about quarrying techniques of the prized truffeau stone.
On the way back to the hotel make a halt at a traditional cellar for some winetasting. Dinner and overnight.

Day 8 Côte Fleurie and Cider Country
Continue along the scenic Normandy coast of the Cote Fleurie with its popular
seaside resorts of Deauville, Trouville, and Honfl eur stopping en route to taste
some local cider and calvados. Free time for lunch then on to Fécamp across
the giant span of the Normandy Bridge and via the spectacular chalky cliffs
and chiselled archways of Etretat. The Benedictine Palace in Fécamp is famous
for its artwork and architecture but more so for its unique liqueur which is still
exclusively distilled on the premises. End your visit with a tasting session then
continue to Rouen for dinner and overnight in the region.
Day 9 Dieppe and the Alabaster Cliffs
Tour Dieppe, maritime city par excellence. In the 19th century, aside the thriving
port, Dieppe was one of the fi rst places where sea bathing came into fashion.
Free time for lunch, then stop to visit the little church in St-Valery with its exquisite
stained glass windows by Braque and Ubac, and enjoy the far-stretching views
along the coast. The English style park and gardens in Bois des Moutiers are
home to an exceptional collection of plants and shrubs from all over the world.
Continue along the sheer white cliffs of the Alabaster Coast to St-Valery-en-Caux.
Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 10 Rouen and the Seine Valley
A visit to Rouen old town centre is a delight, thanks to its well-preserved half
timbered houses, and other old buildings such as the Gros Horloge Clock Tower,
and Notre-Dame Cathedral. Free time for lunch then on towards Caudebec en
Caux following the tranquil meanders of the Seine, so loved by the Impressionists. The gently undulating countryside is sprinkled with small villages, country
manors and fi ne Abbeys. Our route takes us via the picturesque village of La
Bouille, St-Pierre-de-Manneville and its 16th century Manor, the Abbey of StMartin de Boscherville, the beautiful ruins of Jumieges Abbey, and St-Wandrille
Abbey founded in the 7th century. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 Villandry Gardens and Chateau d’Usse
Make for Villandry Castle, whose world-famous gardens are the main attraction,
in particular the highly ornamental kitchen garden. On then to taste a local speciality, “Poires Tapées à l’Ancienne” : see how the pears are dried and conserved using traditional methods. Free time for lunch then continue to Usse Castle,
nicknamed Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, with its multitude of turrets, skylights and
chimneys. Return to the hotel via Azayle-Rideau. Dinner and overnight.
Day 11 Vernon, Monet’s Gardens and Van Gogh
On the Normandy border, visit Vernon with its half-timbered houses and Collegiate Church. Monet’s house and gardens in Giverny are a must and our
visit includes the Clos Normand flower garden and the not-to-be-missed water
garden with Monet’s so oftpainted water lilies. Free time for lunch then continue
to the village of Auvers-sur-Oise, source of inspiration for the Impressionist painters, in particular Van Gogh. The river banks, village church and square clock
tower, and the house of Doctor Gachet (famed as Van Gogh’s physician) have
all been captured on canvas. In nearby Auvers, the castle plays host to a superb
show-trail of paintings projected onto the chateau walls, taking you back to the
bygone times of the Impressionist era. Return to Paris, check-in to your hotel, for
dinner and overnight.
Day 7 Caen and the D-Day Landing Beaches
Today we set off for Normandy, arriving in Caen in time for lunch. You are free
to take lunch before our tour of Caen, home of William the Conqueror, taking

Day 1 Paris
Arrival at Paris airport. Transfer by local coach to your 3* hotel in Paris.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 2 Amsterdam
Transfer by local coach to Amsterdam. Lunch then a guided tour of Amsterdam, city of canals, its hundred islets connected by over a thousand
bridges. Visit one of the city’s famous diamond-cutting workshops then
take a cruise on the network of canals (1 hr approx.). Transfer by local
coach to your hotel. Check-in to your 3* hotel in the Amsterdam region.
Dinner and overnight.
Day 3 Northern Holland / Alkmaar / Volendam
Marken
Leave by local coach for Alkmaar to visit the traditional cheese market
(Fridays only) where the bargained lots are weighed and transported
away on wooden barrows. Continue to the Dutch fishing village of
Volendam. Famous for its smoked herring, you may want to see how it’s
done (optional visit). Taste some of the local fish specialities at lunch,
and later visit a cheese farm and clog maker. On to the Marken peninsular and free time to admire the village’s characteristic wooden
houses. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4 Aalsmeer / Keukenhof / Scheveningen
The Hague / Madurodam
Make an early start for Aalsmeer. Free time to experience the largest
flower auction in the world (€4 admission fee payable locally at your
own expense). Next stop Keukenhof Gardens and free time to enjoy
the dazzling floral display. Some 7 million flower bulbs are planted
annually in the park, which covers 32 hectares, including 600 different types of tulip as well as hyacinths and daffodils and myriad
other varieties. Continue to Scheveningen, one of the Netherlands best
known seaside resorts. Lunch then continue to The Hague. Free time to
explore this affluent and prominent city, seat of the Dutch government
and parliament, site of the Queen’s residence and home to numerous
prestigious museums. Finally we go on to the Madurodam miniature city
where you can visit at leisure scale models of all things Dutch: canals,
colorful gabled houses, windmills and other landmarks as well as typical scenes from everyday life. Dinner and overnight.

and Hindeloopen, known for its intricately carved and painted wooden
objects. Lunch in Giethoorn, nicknamed the Venice of the North then
a gentle boat ride on the canals. Return to the hotel for dinner and

Day 7 D
elft / Rotterdam / Kinderdijk Windmills.
Brussels region
Leave for Delft and guided visit of one of the renowned potteries to
watch how the traditional blue and white ceramics are fashioned.
Continue to Rotterdam and lunch, then a Spido Boat tour of the huge
port. Entry to the Euromast Tower or a guided tour of Rotterdam are
optional. Time to journey into Belgium via the famous Kinderdijk Windmills. Short break here for you to admire the windmills at your leisure.
Check-in to you 3* hotel in the Brussels region. Dinner and overnight.
Day 8 Antwerp / Ghent
Make for Antwerp and a guided tour of this ‘city of nobles’, where the
Royal Court once resided. It was also the late home and final resting
place of painter Rubens and is renowned as the world diamond centre.
Lunch then on to Ghent. A busy university town, and birthplace of Holy
Roman Emperor Charles V, Ghent has a charming old quarter which
you can admire on a guided tour. The cathedral houses a famous altarpiece in the form of Van Eyck’s ’Adoration of the Mystic Lamb’ and
also has an impressive belfry tower. Don’t miss the mediaeval Castle
of the Counts of Flanders, and the beautiful Flemish buildings along the
riverfront, the ‘quai aux herbes’. Return to your hotel for dinner and
overnight.
Day 9 Brussels
Set off for Brussels for a guided tour by coach and on foot taking in
the graceful suburb of Laeken, home of the Belgian Royal family with
its beautiful parks and monuments, the Brussels Expo exhibition centre,
the international Trade Mart convention centre, the Planetarium and
Mini-Europe park, all towered over by the extraordinary Atomium, the
Grand’Place with the famous Manneken Pis statue and the narrow
passages in the surrounding ‘Sacred Isle’ district. Lunch then a free afternoon. Two options are a visit to Mini-Europe or the Atomium. Return
to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5 Apeldoorn and the Royal Palace Het Loo
Arnhem
Direction Apeldoorn and visit the Het Loo Palace, a former Royal residence with graceful gardens in the heart of Holland’s woods and
parkland. Lunch then visit Arnhem open air museum and park exhibiting
buildings and objects from rural Dutch life: farms, dairies, windmills,
bascule bridges and much more. Last stop in Utrecht and free time to
explore. A guided tour of the town is optional. Return to the hotel for
dinner and overnight.
Day 10 Bruges
Leave for Bruges. Take in the historic sights in the old town with a
guided tour of Bruges (2h): the tiny, cosy houses of the tranquil ‘Béguinage’ area, Lover’s Lake, Notre Dame Church, the two grand squares
of the Burg and the Markt with its famous belltower. On option is a visit
to a traditional local brewery. Lunch then a cruise on the canals to admire the mediaeval town (30 min). On option is entry to the Chocolate
Museum «Choco-Story». Direction Paris and check-in to your 3* hotel
Paris. Dinner and overnight.
Day 6 Afsluitdijk Causeway / Makkum

Set off towards the Afsluitdijk, an enormous dam built to enclose the Zuider See in the region of Friesland. A chance to discover the picturesque

Day 1 Heart of the Tyrol

The whole day is given over to the Austrian capital including landmarks
such as the Hofburg Palace, winter home of the Hapsburg dynasty, the
Cathedral of St Stephen, and the Austrian Parliament Building. Lunch,
or enjoy lunch and the Vienna skyline at the Donauturm Observation
Tower (optional extra). Continue with a visit to the impressive Schönbrunn Palace, the Imperial summer Residence. Dinner, or if you prefer

Day 2 Innsbruck and the Crystal Town
of the Tyrol (190 km)
Guided tour of Innsbruck, capital of the Tyrol, with its landmark Golden
Roof. Lunch then on to the beautiful little town of Rattenberg, famed for
its crystal and fine glassware. Visit a local crystal manufacturer or, on
option, the Swarovski Crystal Worlds Gallery in Wattens. Dinner and
overnight in the Salzburg region.
Day 3 Salzburg and the Lake District (70 km)
Enjoy a guided tour of Salzburg, Mozart’s birthplace. Explore the old
town before lunch in the nearby lake district. Free time to discover St
Wolfgang then take to the lake for a boat trip to St Gilgen. Time at
leisure to enjoy picturesque St Gilgen and the sweeping scenic views
across the whole of the Salzkammergut region. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4 Melk and the Vienna Woods (320 km)
Guided tour of the massive and imposing Melk Abbey, a masterpiece
of Austrian Baroque architecture overlooking the Danube. Lunch then

Journey along the famous Grossglockner alpine route (open May to
mid-Oct.). From the Franz-Josephs Höhe terrace (2369 m) you can
admire Austria’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner (3.797 m), and
the Pasterze glacier lying directly beneath. Lunch then continue to Zell
am See. Dinner or, on option, a tradition folklore evening. Overnight in
the St Johann in Tirol region.

overnight in the Hanover region.
Day 3 Hamburg, Hanseatic City (220 km)
Leave for Hamburg and lunch on arrival. Guided tour of the port, one
of Europe’s busiest. On to the warehouse district with its pleasing red
brick buildings, many of which have been reconverted into bars and
taverns. The gothic style St Catherine’s Church is one of the city’s oldest
buildings. On option is a tour of the port by boat. Dinner and overnight
in the Hamburg region.
Day 4 Potsdam and King Frederick’s Palace (360 km)
Depart for Potsdam. Lunch then a guided tour of the Sans-Souci Palace
and gardens, built as a retreat for the Prussian ruler and as a mini rival
to France’s Versailles Palace. Entry to the larger New Palace, a great
baroque structure to the west of the park, is included. Continue to Berlin
for dinner and overnight.
Destination Weimar, famous for its cultural heritage and home of
Goethe and Schiller. After lunch, guided tour of the old town, where
you can see the German National Theatre and the Wittum Palace.
Continue to neighbouring Erfurt and a guided tour to take in its preserved mediaeval centre, known for its churches, graceful Renaissance
buildings and especially the unique ‘Krämerbrücke’, or grocer’s bridge,
lined with half-timbered houses on either side. Dinner and overnight in
the Erfurt region.
Day 8 Erfurt / Frankfurt (255 km)
Leave for Frankfurt, seat of the first elected German Parliament and
symbol of German democracy. Lunch then a guided tour of Goethe’s
birthplace whose significant monuments include the Kaiserdom Cathedral, and the red sandstone Church of Saint-Paul where the National
Assembly first met. Dinner and overnight in the Frankfurt region.
Day 9 Frankfurt Palm Garden (25 km)
The ‘Palmengarten’ is a huge botanical garden, the largest in Germany, with acres of greenery and an array of tropical plants and hothouse
species from all the world over.
Day 5 Berlin (50 km)
A day to explore Berlin, in the company of your guide, starting in old
West Berlin with the city’s best known shopping street, the Ku’damm,
and the iconic Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, the Charlottenburg
Palace and the historical ‘Reichstag’, or Parliament Building, with its
new dome and roof terrace. After lunch time for a cruise on the river
Spree then you are free to explore at leisure. Dinner, or perhaps experience a traditional music evening in a local eaterie (option). Overnight.

Day 1 Paris / Brussels (310 km)
Arrival at Paris Orly where your guide and driver will welcome you.
Transfer to Belgium, and Brussels. Guided tour on foot and by coach of
Brussels taking in the most memorable landmarks including the Grand
Place, the Manneken Pis fountain sculpture and the extraordinary Atomium, built for the 1958 World Fair. Check-in to your hotel in the

Day 2 Kindzerdijk / Rotterdam (180 km)
Next stop Kinderdijk. A row of 19 windmills makes for one of the most
spectacular sights in the Netherlands. Built in 1740 to drain excess
water from the Alblasserwaard polders, the windmills are no longer in
use (power-driven pumps now do the job). On to Rotterdam for lunch
then a tour of Europe’s biggest port aboard a futuristic type Spido boat.

Day 3 Aalsmeer / Madurodam (130 km)
Meet up with your guide and set off for Aalsmeer’s Auction House,
the world’s largest flower auction where millions of cut flowers and
plants are traded every weekday. Continue to Lisse for lunch. Visit the
Madurodam model village where all of the Netherlands main towns
and monuments are reproduced in miniature. On to Delft, famous for its
blue and white pottery, and a guided tour of one of the hand painted
ceramics workshops. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4 N
orthern Holland: Hoorn / Medemblick
Enkhuizen (150 km)
Set off for the village of Hoorn in the company of your local guide.
Visit this once prosperous trading port on the Zuiderzee. One Willem
Schouten set out from here in 1616, and rounded the southernmost tip
of South America, naming it Cape Horn (Kaap Hoorn) in memory of his
hometown. Then step on board a steam tram for a journey through time,
meandering through the farms, villages and windmills dotting the West
Frisian countryside, as far as Medemblick. Lunch in Medemblik then on
to Enkhuizen, or if you prefer, take lunch on board the old-fashioned
lake steamer to Enkhuizen, a flourishing herring fishing centre before the
Zuidersee silted up. The Zuidersee Museum is an open-air museum reflecting life in the surrounding villages and harbours. Return to your hotel
for dinner and overnight.
Day 5 Amsterdam (180 km)
Guided tour of Amsterdam in the morning, a capital built on the rivers
Ij and Amstel, with a hundred islets connected by over a thousand
bridges. A visit to a diamond-cutting workshop is a must! A cruise on the

Day 6 Floriade 2012 (40 km)
A free day to visit the fabulous Floriade, an international exhibition dedicated
to flowers and gardening which takes place every ten years. This spectacular

worlds separated by wooded areas; a unique world event! Lunch at your leisure

Day 7 Luxembourg (280 km)
Journey on to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Lunch then a guided
tour of the capital, Luxembourg City, perched high on sheer hills and
cliffs, and transformed over the centuries by the addition of different
fortifications. The Grand Ducal Palace is not to be missed, nor the
Parliament Assembly buildings and square. Check-in to your hotel in
Luxembourg. Dinner and overnight.
Day 8 Moselle / Mainz / Frankfurt (320 km)
Continue via the picturesque German city of Koblenz to St Goarshausen where you embark around midday for a Rhine cruise as far as
Bingen. Lunch served on board, as you admire the pretty lake shore
scenery, villages, vineyards and ancient castles built to protect the valley. You’ll also pass the famed Lorelei rock marking the river’s narrowest
part. Arrive in Bingen around 3pm and on then to Mainz, birthplace
of Gutenberg whom we credit for the Printing Revolution, and with
a notable Romanesque style cathedral. Carry on towards Frankfurt.

Day 9 Munich (390 km)
Set off for Munich with a lunch stop en route. Guided tour of the Bavarian
capital with sights including the Town Hall and its famous Glockenspiel
clock display, the majestic main square or Marienplatz, the rococo Asamkirche church and the Schrannenhalle, a 19th century market hall. Dinner
and overnight in the Munich region.
Day 10 Chiemsee Island (180 km)
Day outing to Chiemsee, Bavaria’s biggest lake, and boat trip across
to the island. Lunch then guided tour of Herrenchiemsee Royal Castle,
built under Ludwig II of Bavaria. An avid admirer of France’s King Louis
XIV, his castle is a replica of Versailles, complete with hall of mirrors,
French style gardens and colonnaded façade. Return boat. Dinner and
overnight.
Day 11 Bavarian Castles / Bregenz (240 km)
Leave for Neuschwanstein. Visit this legendary fairytale castle built by
King Ludwig II of Bavaria, and which served as a model for Disneyland’s
‘Sleeping Beauty Castle’. Lunch then on to Hohenschwangau Castle,
built on the remains of a mediaeval fortress. It was Ludwig’s childhood
home and it was here that he met composer Wagner. Leave for Bregenz.
Dinner and overnight in the Bregenz region.
Day 12 Lake Constance (140 km)
Begin by visiting Lindau Island and the city dating from mediaeval times. Follow
the lake shores to Meersburg where we take a ferry to Konstanz. Lunch then on
to Mainau Island, mainly a garden isle with beautiful parks and gardens boasting a huge variety of species and beautiful lake views. Continue to Zurich.
Dinner and overnight in the Zurich region.
Day 13 Zurich and the ‘Town of Roses’ (80 km)
Guided tour of Zurich whose mediaeval old town, the ‘Schipfe’, is

town which has conserved a distinctly mediaeval feel, and is dominated by its mighty castle. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 14 Q
ueen of the Mountains
and Lake Lucerne (160 km)
Depart for Rigi, ‘Queen of the Swiss Mountains’, sitting serenely above
Lake Lucerne, also called the Lake of the Four Forest Cantons. A rack railway takes you up to the highest point, Rigi-Kulm. From the summit there
is a breathtaking panorama of the Swiss Alps, looking out over 13 lakes
and the Swiss plateau! Lunch then a guided tour of romantic lakeside
Lucerne, taking in the old quarter and its landmark 14th century wooden
‘Kapellbrücke’ or Chapel Bridge. Continue towards Mulhouse. Check-in
to your hotel. Dinner and overnight in the Mulhouse region.
Day 15 Mulhouse / Paris (475 km)
Guided tour of Mulhouse. Admire the Town Hall, a Rhenish Renaissance
style masterpiece, the colorful façades of the historic heart of the city, the
Place de la Réunion with the Protestant St Stephen’s Church and its large
leaded-glass windows dating from the 14th century, the narrow lanes and
passages of the workers district and the Winegrowers Confederation.
Wall murals and ‘trompe-l’oeil’ paintings are another notable feature of
Mulhouse. Leave for Paris. Lunch en route. Arrive in the Paris region at the
end of the afternoon. Check-in to your hotel. Dinner and overnight.
