>>> MANAGER’S MESSAGE
Happy Mother’s Day Vistancia!
By Wendy Mueller, Community Manager
H
appy Mother’s Day Vistancia! For
the moment, we can still enjoy the
mild spring temperatures and the
vibrancy of the desert in bloom! Soon the
summer heat will be here and we will be taking all our activities
back inside.
Speaking of our beautiful spring weather, this is the time of the
year when Arizonans have full use of their beautiful outdoor
living spaces. It is also the time of year when we receive the
highest number of barking dog complaints. For dog owners, a
little barking is a part of your day. For non dog owners, barking
creates a significant nuisance that inhibits your neighbors ability
to quietly enjoy their outdoor spaces. Barking dogs was the
number one problem noted in our most recent resident survey.
Pet owners – please make sure that your furry friends are being
good neighbors. Remember that your non pet owning friends
and neighbors are negatively impacted by your pets protective
exuberance.
Another item of note in this year’s survey was covenants and
compliance. The comments we received were split right down
the middle with half of the community feeling that we have been
too diligent in our enforcement efforts, while the other half sees
our efforts as not enough. We realized from this feedback that
we could do a better job of communicating our compliance
efforts. Presently we average over 360 compliance letters each
month. These range from parking, to trash cans to landscape
maintenance and other issues. Most owners are terrific and take
immediate corrective action. Others require more diligence and
follow up on our part. Each month we will update the website with
the most current information.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out the 2015
Resident Survey. We sent the survey to over 2400 households
but we only had a response rate of 20%! Your feedback and
comments are important to us! Your feedback allows us to modify
our services to make Vistancia an even greater place to live! An
executive summary of this schedule will be posted on the website
for your review. As always, please let us know if you have any
questions.

results.
Vistancia has achieved one of
the most successful periods of new homes sales since 2008
with 129 net sales year-to-date among our three communities –
The Village, Blackstone and Trilogy. Not only is the community
currently ranked the #1 Master Planned Community Arizona by
Ranking Arizona, but Vistancia is leading in new homes sales
over any other master planned community in the Valley. See how
Vistancia’s year-to-date sales stack up:
The Village-58 | Blackstone-19 | Trilogy-52
Since grand opening in 2004, Vistancia has celebrated over 5,000
new home sales among all three communities, with an estimated
12,500 residents. Vistancia currently offers 14 new home
neighborhoods and 9 actively selling builders. New home pricing
ranges from the high $100’s to $500’s with custom homesites
starting in the $130’s.
Vistancia is optimistic about the continued success and growth of
the community throughout the remainder of 2015. The Vistancia
Information Center continues to be the hub for all community
updates and future development, so stop in frequently to get the
latest development information and details.
Located at the guard-gated entrance of Blackstone at Vistancia,
the Vistancia Information Center is open daily 10 AM-5 PM. Call

Welcome to the Beginning of Summer!
By Dan Trudeau - Managing Director of Operations • Horticulturist, SLM
W
ith the latest round of warmer temperatures, we will
begin to see the final push of flowering cycles on our
many varieties of Cacti and desert plants throughout
the communities. Be on the lookout for the beautiful flowers
they provide and the hummingbirds they feed. Thankfully, the
remaining plants are just now beginning to push their summer
flowers. Plants such as: ‘Texas Sage’, ‘Hopseed’, ‘Cassias’,
‘Bougainvillea’ and ‘Lantana’ are all beginning this process.
Along with new flowers come many, many, seeds. This is a plants
natural process, to live on through their offspring. Since we have
desert adapted plants and trees, flower production becomes
a yearly nuisance. Constant litter, only to be followed by bean
pods. Managing your water will help reduce over production of
flowers and seeds.
As our temperatures begin to increase past the triple digit numbers,
conservation of water is going to be extremely important. An
easy way to accomplish this is watering your grass and plants
in the early morning; prior to the sun coming up is best. It will
help replace the water your lawn has used, while allowing the
un-needed water to evaporate before damage can be done from
the high humidity on the soil surface. Another thing to do that will
help sustain your lawn throughout the summer heat is to apply a

balanced, slow-release, fertilizer. Your local nursery can offer the

Care To Know – To conserve the most water set your sprinklers
to complete your watering in the early morning before the sun
rises. .
Remember it is always best to have a plan. If you have any

O
ne concern that has been echoing
in the community is that of the
excessive barking by dogs in back
yards. Vistancia is a pet friendly community
but there are some very important things to
remember as a pet owner and as a neighbor.
1. Protecting the home does not include barking at every
person that walks by on a path behind the home. That is a
nuisance and should not be permitted by any pet owner.
By giving a pet unrestricted access to a back yard in your
absence, you are not able to witness or correct the behavior
when it happens thus neglecting to teach the dog that this
type of barking is not acceptable. You may need to modify
the animal’s environment to limit its exposure to such
barking triggers.
2. Being a responsible pet owner means you have a
responsibility to the pet as well as your neighbors. Some
of the responsibilities to the pet include providing it with
enough exercise and mental stimulation. Failing to provide
these basic needs will cause stress and frustration for
your pet which results in barking and other disruptive or
damaging behavior. Take the dog for good brisk walks
12 | MAY 2015 | VISTANCIA LIVING
as often as possible,
especially in the early
morning and when your
return home from work.
3. Responsibilities to
your neighbors include
picking up and disposing
of pet waste, keeping
your pet on a leash and
making a genuine effort
to control your dogs
barking.
Enforcement of the CC&R’s with respect to barking dogs is
the same as any other violation. If witnessed by an HOA staff
member, a violation will opened and can escalate through the
violation process. If you are witness to a constantly barking dog,
you can fill out a violation complaint form siting the date, time
and duration of the noise nuisance which can also be cause
for a violation letter. It is recommended that Maricopa County
Animal Control be called in ongoing or extreme cases. For more
assistance with barking dog issues and/or mediation, you call the
Peoria Barking Dog Hotline at 623-773-7040.

Vistancia MOMS Club Celebrates 10 Years
By Andrea Moore, MOMS Club President
T
he MOMS Club of Vistancia is celebrating it’s 10th year
in the community. It’s hard to believe that we have been
around almost as long as Vistancia itself. I have had the
privilege of being in the club for almost six years. During those
years, I have met many families in Vistancia and have witnessed
the development of our club and the contributions it makes to
our community.
MOMS Club is centered on
moms and their children to
provide
socialization
and
friendships for both mothers
and children. We have many
play dates and outings for our
members. When I first moved to
Vistancia, I did not know anyone in the community. MOMS Club
has introduced me to many amazing women. I have made some
of my best friends from the club and my children have grown up
with their children and have become great friends as well. It really
is true when you hear members saying that they have made some
wonderful friendships through the club.
The MOMS Club is not only focused on social activities but
community service as well. We have helped many families,
hospitals, and shelters in the area. As a club, we have reached
out to the community to help families that may be going through
difficult times. We often provide meals, gift cards for groceries,
and even gifts to help make the holidays a little more special. We
have also done drives to collect donations for Toys for Tots, local
hospitals, and shelters. It is in true MOMS Club spirit to give back
to our community and help those in need.

If you would like more information on our club or MOMS Club
international, please visit www.vistanciamomsclub.com or www.
momsclub.org for more information. We are also hosting an
Open House on May 1st at the Mountain Vista Park. I encourage
you to come by to meet some of our members and find out more
about what we are about. We are open to all moms whether you
are a stay at home mom or a working mom and we are always
looking for more members and friends!

P
opsicle stick puzzles are a great way to keep your kids
entertained while on an airplane, at a doctor’s office or
while waiting for food at a restaurant. I put the sticks in a

from the growing suburban drug issue. The
canines will be on campus to discover harmful
substances that are on school premises.
The canines will be on campus from April onward, but no schedule
for their visits has been made known. This is an intentional
move, done so that offenders will not have the chance to plan
around the randomized presence of the dogs. Hopefully, the
implementation of these canines will help alleviate the worrisome
influx of suburban drug usage.
The canines will come from a local kennel that has a long history
of training service dogs. According to a letter sent out to parents
by Principal John Croteau, “should the canine sniff a substance
that could be harmful, administration will conduct a more
thorough investigation.”
English teacher Mrs. Miller said, “I think it’s going to discourage
kids from bringing those substances on our campus.”
Administration and staff feel that the canines are going to help
reduce the amount of harmful and illegal substances on our
campus.
Liberty High School counselor Ms. Dyer said, “I think anything
that helps the environment of the school [and] makes it safer
and better for kids is a good thing.” The concern of what the
substances can do to people has grown in recent years because
more and more adolescents and minors are getting involved with
drugs.
A high ranking source within the school who wishes to remain
anonymous added, “I think it’s a great idea. I think it’s a great
idea because it’s a deterrent. And obviously we know that there
[are] things in school that shouldn’t be in school, and hopefully
the canines will find that.”

Disney Bound Once Again!
T
he Vistancia Steel Drum group at Vistancia
Elementary, known as “Iron Pans”,
has once again returned from another
memorable trip, which included a performance
in Disneyland. The students departed Vistancia
Elementary on April 16th and performed on the
Big Thunder Jamboree Stage in Frontierland on
April 17th. This is the second consecutive year they have been
accepted and performed at Disneyland. It takes many hours to
prepare, fundraise, and organize for trips like this, but the memory
of a lifetime for these students makes the effort worthwhile.
(Student) Makenna laird….
Being a member of the steel
drum program has been an
amazing experience. I have
been very fortunate to perform
at Disneyland twice. Mrs.
Carlson has done such a great
job teaching us and creating
such fun opportunities that I will
always remember. Being in the
steel drums will always be some
of my most favorite memories.
22 | MAY 2015 | VISTANCIA LIVING
(Student) Noah Fryberger…
Steel Drums is so much fun
because we get to go out and
perform for many events and
meet people.
(Student) Jacob Webb….
I like Steel Drums because of
our instructor, she knows how
to bring out the best in us.
The students in the steel drum
group are very committed
and motivated, which is
demonstrated by their daily rehearsals at 7:00am at Vistancia
Elementary. They take great pride in knowing that they are
involved in a very unique program that is offered at very few
schools. The “Iron Pans” group is currently the only steel drum
group in the Peoria Unified School District.
“Iron Pans” hopes to continue to have opportunities for trips in
the future, but they also enjoy performing for our community and
surrounding areas. The group would like to thank the Vistancia
Community for their continuous support.
If you would like to learn more about this unique program
you may contact the Director, Julie Carlson at

>>> Lake Pleasant Elementary
How Does Your Teacher Build a Sense
of Community?
Lake Pleasant is a school of choice built on
trust, community, and collaboration. We are
invested in providing meaningful experiences
that promote individual success and a passion
for lifelong learning.
“My teacher treats us like a family. She does
that by knowing when to tease us and make
us laugh every day. She also shares some
funny stories about her life, and we share
ours too. That builds relationships with our
classmates.” -Samantha Campbell, 5th
grade
“My teacher helps build a social contract
so people can be treated the way you want
to be treated. She’s fun, amazing, and very
cool. She teaches us a lot and is very silly.
She also cares for us. She is a good teacher.”
–Ethan Reed, 2nd grade
How does Lake Pleasant foster a sense of collaboration?
“The administrators at Lake Pleasant have
carefully built a team of staff members that
take every possible measure to ensure
open communication and support, with the
common goal of ensuring that each student
has the best chance for success. The key
components that help us foster this sense of
collaboration are trust, a positive attitude and support amongst
one another.” -Emily Rogers, Nurse Asst.
“We have a Leadership Team where teachers and administrators
meet and openly talk about needs. School goals are set.
Professional Learning Communities encourage and allow time
for teachers to collaborate. Teachers learn
new techniques and share with each other
to better instruction and learning for all
students. We welcome and appreciate parent
volunteers. Parents serve on the PTO and
help with school functions, volunteer regularly
in classrooms, and participate in field trips.”
-Beth Austin, Kindergarten
How does Lake Pleasant foster trust?
“The administration, teachers, staff and
parents have been nothing short of amazing!
We have a true community here who are
helpful, respectful, honest and caring. My
daughter is visually impaired and everyone
who has been involved with her at school
has really made everything as easy as it
could be. Her needs are always put first and everyone keeps
an open line of communication. They work together in a team
for the benefit of my daughter. I believe in the saying “it takes
a village to raise a child” and Lake Pleasant has an awesome
village that have earned my trust, respect and loyalty. Thank
you Lake Pleasant for taking care of and teaching my children!”
-Catrina Frost, parent
“As a new community member, my children
and family were welcomed from the very first
day. We are so thankful for the programs,
teachers, faculty, class sizes and mostly the
sense of community that the school fosters.
Our kids tell us all the time that they never
want to leave Lake Pleasant.” -Jason Elliott,
parent

>>> Tee TIME
Let Your Belt Buckle Point the Way
By Greg Ellis, General Manager, Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia
F
rom the time my dad gave me my first
golf lesson, there has been one principle
of the swing that remains steadfast in
mind and in my swing. This should be a given
when swinging the golf club; however, the
majority of golfers today never reach the point of a full body finish.
This fundamental principle is simple; point your belt buckle to your
target so you can make a complete follow through.
One rule of thumb or in this case “rule of the belt buckle” is what
ever direction your belt buckle is pointing at the completion of your
swing is the direction the golf ball will travel. More times than not if
a shot hangs out to the right it is because you have slid through the
golf shot and if you remember to look at your belt buckle, you will
find it is pointed to the right.
The reason that many golfers do not get the belt buckle to the
target is directly related to the sequence of motion throughout the
swing. Amazing how everything always comes back to the swing
sequence. If the swing sequence is out of order the belt buckle will
most likely not make it back to your target and thus the ball will not
make it to your target either.
With this in mind, work on getting the sequence of your swing
motion grooved by having the following occur: the take away begins
with the club, hands and arms starting the swing; followed by a turn
of the shoulders to a point where the torso turns and then finally
the hips turn slightly. This should have the golf club to the top of
the backswing. Now it is time to get the belt buckle moving. You
will begin to rotate the hips first to initiate the downswing. While the
hips are rotating back to the ball and through the torso will follow
the hips; the shoulders will follow the shoulders and the arms, hands
and club will follow the shoulders. By now the belt buckle should
be pointed to your target and the club will now swing down the line
toward you target. If the clubface is square at impact the ball will go
toward the target as well. You may pick up a extra distance with this
swing method too.
Practice this and if you have any challenges with this, please feel
free to contact me at the Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia.
