Park your vehicle on firm, flat, level ground ensuring there is enough space behind the vehicle for the ramp and the wheelchair. 2. Open the rear tailgate. 3. Pull the ramp handle to release the ramp (Fig. 1). 4. Lower the ramp. Fig. 1 8 9 Seat Risers 10 Seat Risers Fig. 1 Fig. 2 Fig. 3 Fig. 4 1. The seat risers when not in use should be stored in the floor housing (Fig. 1). 2. To raise the unit, pull the catch located on the top of the unit (Fig. 2). 3. The cylinder within the unit will help raise the seat riser to the vertical position (Fig. 3). 4. When all the units are in the vertical position, the seat risers are ready to use with the folding seats. 5. To stow the unit, ensure the seat is unclipped and correctly folded, then simply push the unit back into the floor housing. The unit should click into place (Fig. 4). 11 Electric Retractors Electric Retractors 1. Check there are no obstructions inside the vehicle. 2. Turn the electric retractors ON, these are the front wheelchair restraint belts (Fig. 2). The switch is located inside the rear of the vehicle on the left hand side panel (Fig. 1). Note: When the wheelchair is not inside the vehicle, the belts can be stored neatly by being hooked over the pegs (if fitted) at the rear of the vehicle (Fig. 3). When not in use, ensure the retractors have been turned OFF. Fig. 1 Fig. 2 12 If the front retractors are left on for several hours, when the vehicle is not in use, they can drain the battery and your VEHICLE MAY NOT START. Fig. 3 13 Electric Retractors Electric Retractors 3. Position the wheelchair at the foot of the ramp. 4. Open the buckle and attach the retractors, on each side, to the main frame of the wheelchair above the front wheels (Fig. 4). DO NOT ATTACH TO FOOTRESTS and ensure the belts are not damaged or twisted. 5. Switch the retractors OFF. This will engage the ratchet so the belts will go in but not come back out. 6. Move the wheelchair passenger into the vehicle. Stop every couple of feet and pull the wheelchair back so that the front belts tighten on the reel. When the wheelchair is in the desired position, do one final pull back to tighten the front belts. Note: Karabiner style end fixings may also be fitted if specified. Fig. 4 14 15 Winch (Optional) Winch (Optional) Note: The winch is an optional extra specified at the time of order. If you did not order a winch, no winch will be supplied with the vehicle. 1. The winch system is to be used in conjunction with the electric front retractors. Retractor belts are not shown on the illustrations opposite to help provide clarity as to how to attach and position the winch. 2. Position the wheelchair at the foot of the ramp. 3. Attach the retractors as described on pages 12 - 15. Attach the winch, on each side, to the main frame of the wheelchair above the front wheels (Fig. 2). DO NOT ATTACH TO FOOTRESTS and ensure the belts are not damaged or twisted. 4, Ensure the spreader bar, if used, is below or in front of the wheelchair users feet (Fig. 2). Placing the bar above the wheelchair users feet can lead to the bar crushing the wheelchair users feet when they are winched in or out of the vehicle (Fig. 1). 5. Switch the retractors OFF. This will engage the ratchet so the belts will go in but not come back out. 6. Using the winch remote, press the ‘IN’ button to pull in the winch. Guide the wheelchair user into the vehicle. Fig. 1 16 Fig. 2 17 Rear Restraints Rear Restraints 1. Slide the rear wheelchair restraint belts onto the ‘Solo’ floor anchors and twist them round towards the wheelchair inside the vehicle. Follow figures 1,2 and 3. Fig. 1 Fig. 2 18 Fig. 3 19 Rear Restraints Rear Restraints Note: There are two types of rear restraints available, follow the specific instructions for the type you have. A ‘Tongue and Buckle’ style end fixing, see page 12, is also available if specified. Unwin Ratchet System Fig. 1 Fig. 2 1. Lift the ratchet buckle to release the belt (Fig. 1). 2. Pull out enough slack in the belt to attach to the wheelchair (Fig. 1). 3. Attach the karabiner to the wheelchair on each side (Fig. 2). 4. Pull the belt tight to take out the slack (Fig. 2). 5. Close the ratchet buckle to secure the belt (Fig. 2). Unwin Quattro Fig. 3 20 Fig. 4 1. Press the yellow button to release the belt (Fig. 3). 2. Pull out enough slack in the belt to attach to the wheelchair (Fig. 3). 3. Attach the karabiner to the wheelchair on each side (Fig. 4). 4. Press the yellow button again to take out the slack (Fig. 4). If necessary, rotate the hand wheel to tension the belts so the wheelchair is secure (Fig. 4). 21 Fixing The Belts Fixing The Belts 1. The wheelchair passenger must now be made secure within the vehicle. 2. Clip the diagonal belt (green) into the shoulder belt buckle ‘A’ (Fig. 1), 3. Ensure the lap belt (blue) is unclipped from the diagonal belt (green) and feed it, if possible, under the armrests of the wheelchair and clip it into the buckle stalk ‘C’ on the right hand side of the vehicle (Fig. 2). 4. Pass the diagonal belt (green) over the left shoulder of the wheelchair passenger and clip it into the lap belt connector ‘B’ (Fig. 2). 5. Fig. 3. gives an overview of how the belt system should look if used correctly. Fig. 1 Note: The fit of the belts can be adjusted by altering the length of the shoulder belt (pink) Fig. 1. and/or by altering the position of the belt stalk and double inertia reel within the tracking. Tracking not installed on every vehicle. Fig. 2 22 Fig. 3 23 Closing The Ramp Closing The Ramp 1. Lift the ramp to the vertical position and push in the centre to close. 2. Push the handle inwards, ensure the catch mechanism is fully locked (Fig. 2). 3. Close the rear tailgate. Fig. 1 24 Fig. 2 25 Exiting The Vehicle Fig. 1 26 Exiting The Vehicle 1. Release the lap and diagonal belt. 5. Remove the rear wheelchair restraints from the frame of the wheelchair. 6. Remove the rear wheelchair restraints from the floor anchors. 7. Switch the retractors ON and take off the wheelchair brake. 8. Ease the wheelchair forward slightly to release the ratchet on the retractors and then guide the wheelchair out of the vehicle and down the ramp. 9. Apply the wheelchair brake. 10. Remove the retractors, hook them over the pegs and switch them OFF. 11. Lift the ramp and push firmly on both sides to close. 12. Close the tailgate. 27 Vehicle Modifications w a r r a nt y 29 Exhaust System Exhaust System The exhaust system on your vehicle has been modified. The emissions control equipment is all original but the rear silencer and connecting pipes have been changed. The exhaust system has been independently tested to ensure it meets the manufacturers original noise specifications. Should a part of your exhaust system need replacing please refer to diagram opposite (Fig. 1) and the table below. If you require assistance call Lewis Reed parts on 0151 343 5360. They will differ dependant on driving style, terrain, traffic conditions and vehicle load. A new, specially designed, fuel tank has been fitted to your vehicle. The shape of the tank is considerably different to the original to allow for the vehicle conversion, this means the fuel gauge on the instrument panel will read differently to that of the original. For both models, when the fuel tank is full the fuel gauge will read one segment down from full, green dial ‘A’ (Fig. 1). Fig. 1 Due to the shape of the fuel tank, the fuel gauge will drop quickly from reading full to reading 1/2 full. New fuel gauge reading approximations: Caddy Life: Full tank ‘A’ - 46 Litres Fuel warning light on ‘B’ - 7 Litres - 40 Miles Caddy Maxi: Full tank ‘A’ - 56 Litres Fuel warning light on ‘B’ - 21 Litres - 120 Miles The fuel sensor is fitted to the front of the new fuel tank and, as a result, when the vehicle is pointing uphill the fuel gauge will temporarily read low. Equally, the fuel gauge will read high when the vehicle is pointing downhill (Fig. 2). 32 Fig. 2 This is particularly noticeable if the vehicle has been parked on a gentle incline with a half full tank. When you drive away the gauge may move up to four segments before it settles. 33 Maintenance w a r r a nt y 35 Maintenance Maintenance Regularly inspect the wheelchair and passenger restraints for wear and tear, damage and malfunction. To clean the restraints use warm soapy water and a clean soft cloth. Rinse with clear water, leave to air dry. Important: Do not immerse belts in water. Care should always be taken to prevent contamination of all the webbing from chemicals, oils and polish. During bad weather the ramp may develop a slight creaking noise. This is due to salt from road gritting crystallising in the bearings. To cure, simply pour warm water onto the bearings ‘A’ (Fig. 1). DO NOT lubricate. Fig. 1 36 37 Warranty w a r r a nt y 39 Warranty Warranty In addition to the original manufacturer’s warranty, the conversion of your vehicle is guaranteed for a period of 3 years from the date of first registration or, up to 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
