A most powerful event! An entire reenactment of a drunk driving crash from beginning to end. The crash, the response, the funeral and then the trial. Thank you to Mrs. Ford, our staff, students, police, fire, Life Flight, SCAT, Judge Ramey and all of the community members that made this experience possible! Our hope is that our students are fully informed and make positive choices when faced with drugs and alcohol. Administrative changes are coming to Southview High School; + Our Athletic Director, Mrs. Susie Felver has been named as the new Assistant Principal at McCord. We are very proud and happy for her, although we will miss her. Susie has done a lot for SV in the last 3 years, most importantly overseeing the construction of the Mel Nusbaum Stadium. As you well know she is a new mother to Henry Robert Felver, and this move will give her more time to spend with her new family. We will miss you Susie!, always remember: once a Cougar, always a Cougar!! + Mrs. Libby McIlwain, NV’s Asst. Principal of Discipline will be SV’s new Asst. Principal of Curriculum for the 2015-2016 school year. Mrs. McIlwain came to Sylvania Schools from Springfield where she was an English Teacher and then the Assistant Principal of Curriculum. In her own words, “there are so many skills that a good administrator should possess, but the skills that elevate an administrator into excellence are the ability to develop a vision, helping others become empowered to meet excellence in their jobs and being able to understand that one is constantly learning and there is much to learn as we work with others to achieve the vision.” State-wide testing returns next week and the students will be taking the end of year tests over the next two weeks. Next week is also the start of our Advanced Placement (AP) testing. We appreciate any opportunity to show off our students academic abilities. There will be no special schedules during the school day and have minimized the disruptions as much as possible. Good Luck students, you will do amazingly! Page 2 Cougar of the Week: Sam Kirshner Mrs. Conover, SV Intervention Specialist, has been chosen Sam Kirshner to be Cougar of the Week. She says that “Sam combines an exceptional work ethic and an admirable sense of humbleness as he continuously strives to accept direction to improve both his academics and personal self. Sam is driven to excel in the classroom and is self-motivated to give academic tasks close attention. Sam’s encouragement, humbleness to share his own struggles, his charming charisma and his ability to relate to a variety of people from all walks of life has made him an asset to my classroom.” Sam is the son of Alan and Suzanne Kirshner. Sam’s favorite movie is Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back. His favorite book is called Battle: A Visual Journey through 5,000 years of combat by R.G. Grant. If Sam could meet anyone in the world it would be Wilt Chamberlain, his favorite basketball player. The desire to meet him originates from time spent reading and talking with his dad. Sam’s plans after graduation include attending Lourdes University majoring in business. Best of luck to Eric Zhu and Palavi Lank who will be competing at the National Science and Humanities Symposium this weekend!
