We initiate an active learning process through joyful and creative activities in which pupils will learn from the partners and make different approaches to the same problems. It is a common aim to enable as many young people as possi2 ble to make the experience of an intercultural exchange and to renew the spirit of twin cities. . The communication in the mother tongue will be strengthened throughout the complete project since all the preparations for the planned activities will be in the native language. First when it comes to a contact with the partners of the foreign countries by e-mail, phone, face-toface or by doing translations or mediations, the communication in foreign languages will be supported School presentation - germany The Vogelsberschule Schotten , shortly VBS Schotten, is a Cooperative Secondary School. Our schoolforms are the mixed ability classes (class 5 and 6), the grammar school (8 year curriculum), the secondary modern school and the Hauptschule. We have 14 classes in the grammar school, 8 classes in the secondary modern school, 5 groups in the mixed ability classes, 3 Hauptschul classes, 1 SchuB class, 1 intensive class and a cooperative class. In the SchuB, intensive and cooperation classes are students who are not easy to educate. So we combine their learning with working. We also have lots of migrants in school in school because in our town there is a special institution for young women who come from Africa and the Eastern countries. Our school is situated in the heart of the Vogelsberg, near Frankfurt where you can find e.g. the "St. Paul`", the meeting place of the first German Democratic Parliament, 1848. The first step for the students is getting to know each other. They will help to prepare the first meeting and they will have their first contacts. By using the English language they will improve their skills and use it in action. The students will present their development and results in school to improve the sensibility concerning their traditions and a common work without frontiers. Our area ….. The officially recognized climatic spa lies from 168 to 773 m above sea level on the western slope of the Vogelsberg Mountains. Nearby are Hoherodskopf (764 m) and Taufstein (773 m), the two highest peaks in the High Vogelsberg Nature Park. Schotten is a tourist town thanks to reliably high snowfall in the winter and hiking opportunities in the summer in the extensive forests. Watersports are also possible on the Nidda Reservoir. In the outermost northwestern municipal area is the source of the river Nidda, a favourite destination for hikers. Archaeological finds from the Schotten area reach back to the New Stone Age. Several barrows bear witness to prehistoric times as do the "Alteburg" and "Wildhauskopf" ringwalls, whose building date is unknown. Schotten had its first documentary mention in 778. The "Horstburg", a local castle near the constituent community of Rudingshain, may have stood in connection with the town's founding. There were digs at the ruins in the 1970s, and they were interpreted as having been a Carolingian royal court. Schotten is said to have been founded by Irish-Scottish monks. The great Gothic Liebfrauenkirche ("Church of Our Lady") was built in the 14th century. In the Middle Ages, Schotten belonged to the Eppstein and Trimberg noble families. The Rhenish League of Towns, in a feud with these families, captured the town and destroyed the walls and the stately home. From 1403, Schotten belonged to the Hessian Landgraves. The current stately home, the Schottener Schloss, dates from this time. It is named after Kőrösi Csoma Sándor, who was a great Hungarian traveler, explorer. His ambition was to find the ancient homeland in Hungarians in Asia, in today‟s territory of China. He did all the way on foot, and learned the languages of the people he met on his way. So, he was able to speak some 16 languages. Our school is a primary and secondary school. It takes children of 6-19 years old. Primary education is eight years long in Hungary, secondary education takes four years. In this project, we mainly plan to involve the secondary school students, the ones between 14 and 19. We have some special classes. In the primary school, one class specializes in learning singing and music. This has long traditions. The other special class is a language class. Following the skills of our namegiver, we also try to do our best in teaching and learning languages. In our district, our students have the best results in language skills of all the schools. We take part in many out-of-lesson activities. This is our third Comenius project and we are really happy to be able work together with so many foreign schools. Our area... Budapest Our school is situated in Budapest, Hungary. We live and work in the 17th district of Budapest, which is in the suburb, in a quiet, peaceful area. The district was formed from three small villages and became a part of the capital in 1950. This is why you can find a combination of city life and country life here. There live about 80,000 people here, in an area of 54.86km 2 , which makes our district the biggest on in Budapest. More and more people decide to move here because of the peace and clean air. The history of the district goes back to 1067. However, the area became desert many times during the history. A lot of German and Slovak people came to settle in this territory in the 18th century. Today, some families still keep their national traditions. Sveti Sedmochislenitsi Secondary School – Targovishte, Bulgaria The main school building Our school has 166 years of history. Of natural resources clay, peat, gravel, sand, therapeutic mud and mineral water can be found here. You can always come here hiking, camping or having a time of your life. Häädemeeste is one of the place where the first Estonian large sailing ships were built. For first two have been put up monument. Also, there are 5 churces and 3 museums. There are four different explanations for the name - Häädemeeste Young lads here used to be so kind that they carried water for the cattle to the cow-sheds on Sunday mornings, helping the girls who took care of the animals. Two brothers, who lived by the brook, were always kind to people passing by. So they used to remember visiting 'the good men'. People are talking that once upon a time a foreign ship sank near the coast of Häädemeeste while a storm. People in the ship barely escaped from death. Coastal people helped castaways and those gave this place name Häädemeeste. In English it Another attempted explanation refers to an analogy to the name of Gutmann Cave in Sigulda, Latvia. It sheltered outcast lepers who were called „good people‟, maybe due to folk tradition – it was a taboo to call bad things by their real names. Lepers have also lived on the shores of Häädemeeste Brook. Love Denise“ Lisa: “From Comenius I expect that I can learn from other countries and about their life.“ Alex In my opinion, carrying out such an important project like the Comenius one is a very important activity because it gives us a lot of opportunities: knowing different realities, foreign nations can make us new and better people. I have a sentence in my mind: “We are the citizens of the world”. Looking at the world with John Lennon‟s eyes (“Image if there is no country and no religion too…”) I think we can try to make this dream true. I like people without prejudices. And I would like to go on with this project since it gives everyone the opportunity to take part to a higher spirit initiative. Not only respecting the other countries but also improving our self-consciousness. Ylenia I believe that the Comenius is a beautiful project because we can know the traditions and the differences between the various countries. In the past years it was a way to interact with other students and for this I think that this year the project will be fun in the same constructive and positive spirit. Miriam I hope that, with this project, I can learn foreign languages better, but also cultural differences and European values. In addition, I believe that this project is very interesting for us because it helps us communicate in a group using other languages and exchanging ideas with each other. At the end of this experience, we can just get more and more aware of ourselves, our culture and the ones of the partner countries. Sara I think that this project is very interesting. It is an opportunity to know the others countries better and have an idea of the differences that are in the world. It is important to know the cultural and linguistic differences of the rest of Europe. It is also an initiative that improves the knowledge of English as a global language and teaches how to work in groups. 20 Class 3 RIM – ITC “VITTORIO VENETO-SALVEMINI” Latina Our expectations about the current COMENIUS PROJECT I hope that will be a great experience! And when the Comenius project starts, I will meet nice people and make some new friends. I think that all of us will have a lot to learn from this project. It will be very interesting if we study something about the culture and traditions of all the other partners, but of course this is just my opinion. When all gets over I wish that each country could express its own opinion about the whole project. Ana Maria I think the Comenius is a project that helps boys and girls to improve their English and interact each other on an international level in order to become better citizens of the future. Fabiana I think that the Comenius is one of the most exciting projects we will carry out these years because it is a valuable way to learn English and to meet new young people from other countries. It is also a way to exchange information between us so that we can also know a lot of things about different cultures. I wish I could go on with this project and visit other places not only to speak English better but also because I believe it is a wonderful experience to carry out. Angelica I expect from Comenius project to get in touch with other people, to learn about other cultures and customs and to travel to other countries. I can‟t wait longer! Alessandra I think this project as well as being useful to improve English language can be a nice way to create new relationships even outside Italy; from these, also some beautiful friendships could start. These friendships can continue after the end of the project. Erika Since I have never participated in a Comenius project, I have high expectations. I hope to develop knowledge and understanding of the diversity of European cultures and languages, and their value. I would also like young people to acquire the basic skills needed for life and necessary for their personal development, employment and for an active European citizenship, through educational activities during the duration of the programme, with the use and the improvement of foreign languages. Olga I hope the Comenius project will be a wonderful experience, I‟m very excited and I am looking forward to meeting the students from other countries and know each other. I would like to improve my English having fun and becoming more aware of the importance of a European conscience. Cristina The next two years I hope the project will let me know more about other cultures, over all about other countries‟ customs, for example the food and what they do during their free time. Knowing these countries through their eyes would be wonderful! Giulia From this project I expect to learn foreign languages, how to make placements in schools or enterprises and to participate in other initiatives aimed at promoting the objectives of the Long-Life Learning Programmes. Francesca B. I believe that this project will be very interesting because we are students of different nationalities but all with a common purpose. The thing that unifies us, even though we are of different nationalities, is the wonderful ENGLISH language, and I hope that this project will go ahead because it is really GREAT. Gaia I am very happy to take part to this incredible experience like the one of the Comenius Project. Our school has already carried out other European projects but I believe that this one will be particularly important because the subject is essential to understand our past and plan a better future. Ioana The Comenius is a new project for me. I expect to deepen knowledge about the other participating countries. I'd like to communicate with the students of other countries also by chat, learning about their customs. I would also love to go and visit their towns and cities. Finally, I hope to improve my knowledge of English in all its forms. Francesca S. I believe that the Comenius Project is a constructive experience because it's a cultural change for everyone. From this experience I think that I can learn about local languages, local people's customs and traditions. I hope to do this experience, I'm so excited and I look forward to completing it in the best way. Giorgia C. This year I hope the Comenius Project will be successful again. I would like to go abroad but I know that there are some people who deserve to take part in it. In any case, I will try to do my best! Alessia I think it is a beautiful experience because you can face different subjects that are not on our textbooks, but which are present in real life and you can also learn that there are different points of view and even different languages and cultures. Roxana My expectations for this project concern the knowledge of a country in all its aspects, particularly the historical and cultural ones. It is an interesting project, it enables us to learn about the events that led to the development of a country, perhaps putting them in comparison with ours. Federica In my opinion this project will be a great experience for me. I am not so good at speaking foreign languages but this will be a wonderful opportunity to do a lot of efforts in order to improve my skills and to meet different people. Arnold 21 Expectations from our students GREECE When first mentioned that we are going to apply for this project, our students just heard about it and nothing else. Things changed altogether when we informed them that the project had been accepted. Our students changed attitude and from then on they have always been asking about it. I want to khow new people and i want see a new country. I will konw a new traditions and a new family. I will see new places. I will make new friends and I will see a new school. Iurascu Rozalia VII A 22 When our teacher told me about the project I was happy to be involved. It was an opportunity I will never meet. It is my chanse to know other children and to see how they learn, how they live. I hope they will become my friends and I will keep in touch with them. Moisa Fernando VIII A This project was for me an unique chance to meet new people, to know the culture of a civilization, to my understanding regarding the English language and to make friends from another country. Since I was told that I would go in Greece, I began to make all sorts of ideas about how the child will be home and where I will stay for a week. I knew about Greece that is a beautiful country, with wonderful places where history has written many pages … Chircea Georgiana VIII A Comenius project offered me the opportunity to visit another country which has a lot of different things as compared to Romania. For example: culture, history civilization and their way of organization. It was an opportunity that I would not have thought, but that was came true. This project was for me the best thing that happened to me. Irina Dumitriu VIII A I've heard many good things about this project and I am very pleased that I will participate with other children and a new experience called Comenius project , look great drag the mouse: leaving one day to visit a new country for me, to be able to see how it is in another country to Romania , a completely different culture and customs to see, we will visit a new school and you learn new ways to teach her , to make new friends , will know a new family, will know a new family. I hope to attach the country that I visit family in which you stand. Will be a new experience that will help me to know in depth Bulgaria. Musteaţă Bianca Denisa VII A I believe that this project was very helpful because I could see my English skills and what I have seen only in movies before. I had too high expectations because I was not in any Comenius project and did not know how it will be. But in recent days were becoming increasingly impatient. Livadariu Elena VIII A I can say that I have had high expectations from this project since I considered it a complex one and with obvious achievements. I wasn‟t wrong in this regard, I was more than satisfied. My main desire was to improve my English, but first of all, to realize what level I have and where I have to work. Secondly, the curiosity to see how Greek life is , to see the beauty of Greece and, why not, to tie friendships. I am proud that this project has confirmed these expectations and I visited beautiful places like the Acropolis, Mycenae citadel, Aegean, Monastiraki and I stayed in a great family who made me feel at home. I am very happy that I have participated, I will always repeat the experience and I advise all those who have the opportunity not to refuse. Costin Andreea VIII A My main expectation from this project was the discovery of the Greek way of life and, at the same time, and interaction with them. Visiting monuments and places of historical importance was also a fulfilled wish. I was absolutely delighted with everything I saw. The Comenius project has met all my expectations and I am very pleased. Teacher, Carmen Tesu Expectations about the project FROM ITYALY First group: Caponera Ilaria, Morelli Ilaria, Veronica Lombardi, Tari Francesca, Grottoli Francesco, Quagliotto Andrea. ”As soon as our English teacher presented the project we liked it very much and we were curious to start it. We need to do this experience to meet new people all over Europe. Second group: Calvagna Valerio, Matisse De Santis, Luca Fregnani, Simone Iaboni, Matteo Frateloreto “For us it‟s the opportunity to know different cultures and traditions” Third group: Polyanskyy Vasyl, Vecchione Claudio, Tranquilli Emanuele, Pietragalla Gian Marco, Milan Davide, Mauro Pasquale “For this group it is very important to know people and cultures of other countries” Fourth group Marika VenturI, Fabiana Zio, Genco Emanuela, Marina Tufo, Sarallo Federico : “This project is very important because we can communicate and learn foreign languages, see new places and help us to become better European citizens.” 23 Taking part in that program for the first time was a surprising by great experience for me. I met people from other countries with the same interests and worries as me and, even for a very short time, I got acquainted with their cultures. The exchanged ideas about education, society needs and ways of living even in difficult conditions. My colleagues from the other schools behaved like we had been friends for years, and this, I thing helped a lot to enjoy all the activities held by the professors of the school in Hungary. Quite a nice example of democracy, don‟t you think? I experienced a nice change along with the colleagues of my school as well as the foreign ones. Through Comenius program I had the opportunity to expand my ideas about teaching and come in touch with people I didn‟t know before. It‟s true that we are all the same people of our globe and with Comenius , we benefit from coming closer to each other. Thank you Argyro Georgatou Unfortunately the day of our departure has arrived … We are leaving early in the morning, and so, we would like to say a few words. First of all the head master of our school the 2nd Vocational Lyceum of Peristeri -Mr. Mouratidis, our beloved – believe us-co-coordinator and friend, Mrs Theodoropoulou , Mrs Dimitriou and me, would like to tell you we are quite honoured to be elected for this Comenius Program. We want to thanks Hungarian colleagues for their kindness their hospitality they really tried very hard to make us feel like at home and we think they managed it. We also need to thank all the other colleagues for their warm welcome. And last but not least we think that we all have given a very good example of democracy. Don‟t forget that democracy comes from the Greek word „‟Δήμος’’which means the people and „‟κρατώ’’ which means set the rules for every body. And during these five days we have set the rules democratically. So, since time flies very quickly- from October till January-it is quite a short period, we are waiting for you with anxiety to give you a warm welcome and a very big hug Thank you Konstandina Theodoropoulou, Argyro Georgatou, Christos Mouratidis I liked the first day in host‟s school – students had prepared presentations of all the partners. My favourite was about Estonia – students sang in excellent Estonian, and they had drawn pictures of our national hero Kalevipoeg (Kalev‟s son). I also loved the presentation of Bulgaria. We could visit almost all the famous places in Hungary. Raimu Pruul The first mobility to Hungary was wonderful and well-organised. Our International company was friendly and supportive. I felt like among old friends I haven‟t seen for a long time. It didn‟t matter that I met them for the first time. The views from the Gellert Hill onto the Danube and nocturnal Budapest, the visits to the Parliament and Herend‟s Porcelain Factory were the most memorable moments for me. I enjoyed walking along the shore of Lake Balaton. The House of Terror was quite depressing but that was the aim – not to forget the atrocities of the past. Unforgettable moments were also with primary class pupils who had prepared a display on Estonia. IT WAS SO LOVELY! And the ring game „Kes aias“. I couldn‟t believe that Budapest was even more beautiful than in the pictures. I had the time of my life. Eeva Noni I was quite impressed by the warm welcome ceremony at the school; I would never have imagined small Hungarian school children sing a song in Estonian. What is more – they had practically no accent! Their teacher must have done lots of work. An extra bonus was the hotel in the centre of Budapest. The city itself gave an impression of its glorious past and grandeur. I also admired my colleagues who could work out the long days full of activities and impressions. A traveller‟s guide said that Hungarians know no word for „cholesterine“. This may be true, or, they may ignore it. Anyway, desserts were the heaviest I have ever had (but also the most delicious ones). Viktor Koop I loved the stay in Hungary – every moment of it. On the first day when we could take part in the music or PE class, I liked the teacher who worked with her pupils with such a care. I enjoyed the Hungarian food as well. And I have never experienced a musician standing next to my dinner table playing the violin – it was very exciting. Rene Kurm 24 Alex Thank you !
