Center, you will be struck by the great individuals and teams honored by this organization over the past three decades. Indeed, our collection of plaques is, in itself, an area history of sports. To continue our success, we rely on individuals like you. Your continued input is essential. You can nominate a sports team or an outstanding athlete by writing a brief account of accomplishments and mailing it to any of the two dozen persons on our Board of Directors. Keep a few things in mind. No individual has ever been inducted into this Hall simply on the basis of a great high school career. Your nominee should have gone on to an impressive college or professional career. Please give this some thought. Have we missed an individual or a team? If so, please bring our oversight to our attention. 2 KURT PEGLER Fr. Jim Clement Master of Ceremonies The Reverend James Clement is Assistant to the Rector in Peoria’s St. Paul’s Episcopal Church now of the Diocese of Chicago. A native of coastal South Carolina, Fr. Clement received an undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston, in addition to completing coursework at its graduate school in conjunction with The Citadel. His first two of three years of seminary were in England, completing studies at the College of the Resurrection and the University of Leeds, West Yorkshire. He concluded seminary at Nashotah House, Wisconsin. Through the years, Kurt's covered the Major League Baseball postseason, the NCAA Final Four, PGA and LPGA Tour events, NFL, NBA and NHL games along with NASCAR races. But he still contends his favorite assignments involve reporting stories about the local prep, college and professional athletes in central Illinois. He's been a finalist for the best downstate sportscast award presented by the Illinois Broadcasters Association every year since 1993, winning the honor in 1994, 2003 and 2004. He has also done playby-play work for local broadcasts of Missouri Valley Conference men's and women's basketball games since 1993. Kurt has called the state tournament boys and girls basketball finals, volleyball and baseball for the Illinois High School Association TV network. Fr. Clement has served the people of the Episcopal Church in Illinois since 2007 and has been involved in various aspects of providing pastoral care, including Stephen Ministry, Seafarer’s Ministry – Port of Charleston, hospital chaplaincy, and a summer placement with a parish in South London. At St. Paul’s Fr. Clement provides leadership in the areas of youth and family ministry and the incorporation of newcomers into the church family. His general duties include preaching, teaching, liturgical leadership, and pastoral care. 3 Best Wishes to all the 2013 Inductees & Tri-County Award Winners PRIME SIZZLING STEAKS SANDWICHES CHICKEN SEA FOODS • NOW FEATURING PRIME RIB • 2232 WEST GLEN PEORIA, IL PHONE 691-4731 OPEN 11:00 a.m. for Noon Lunches Monday-Friday - Until 2 p.m. Dinners 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.: Monday-Thursday 5:00 - 12:00 Midnight: Friday-Saturday SANDWICHES - DINNERS - COCKTAILS BANQUET FACILITIES AVAILABLE FOR UP TO 150 PEOPLE 2929 COURT ST. As Director of Proctor Recreation Center, Harms observed the need for all youths to experience participation in sports activities, and not just the few who excelled. He, therefore, adopted a firm policy which assured that all youths would have an opportunity to play in games of the various sports controlled by Proctor Center. This plan met with much success and certainly with acceptance by parents whose children became more interested in sport activities at Proctor and consequently made good use of their free time. Neve carried through this policy when he was appointed Superintendent of the Peoria City Recreation Department which later became part of the Peoria Park District. In addition, he also developed a system of recognition for all youths so that each young person could feel good about his or her efforts. This kind of interest in all youths regardless of ability came from a most competitive and outstanding athlete. Neve was a four-sport player at Manual High School and a three-sport letter winner at Bradley University. He was a member of the 1929 Manual High School State Championship Basketball team. 7 NEVE HARMS MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD WINNERS FROM RECENT YEARS 2012 2011 2010 2009 2008 2007 2006 2005 2004 2003 2002 2001 2000 1999 1998 1997 1996 1995 1994 1993 1993 1993 1992 1991 1990 1989 1988 1987 1986 1985 1984 1983 1982 1981 1980 1979 1978 1977 1976 1975 1974 1973 1972 1971 1970 1969 1968 1967 1966 Dana Davis Bert Sanders Glen McCullough Mike McCoy Steve Kouri Russ Platt Garry Trotter Dr. B.
