WORLD UNITED KARATE ORGANIZATION & ASSOCIATED DISCIPLINES The Chairman Cannobio, 14th November 2014 Dear friends, many important events have taken place in these last few months. Now WUKO has a strong and stable structure with a president, Master Iwasa Sei, a chairman and five vice presidents who collaborate and are constantly working for the promotion and development of karate in the world. International situation Wuko has signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Lausanne (Switzerland) in July, along with the most important organizations in the world (ITKF, WKC, WUKF, IKU, WFF and IKOK) for the foundation of UWK, United World Karate. Next year in October, will be held the 1st UWK World Championship in Sao Paulo (Brazil). WUKO, as well as all the other organizations that have signed the Memorandum of Understanding, as of 2016, can no longer organize Championships but only Continental Cups or World Championships. -‐‑ WUKO will organize its own Continental Cups (European, Pan-‐‑American, etc.) when the UWK will organize the World Championship -‐‑ WUKO will organize its own World Cup when the UWK will organize the Continental Championships. Each nation will have in WUKO a delegate who will have to follow the international relations of his country and collaborate with other representatives of world organizations that have signed the Memorandum of Understanding. The WUKO delegate will have to be the representative of all affiliated organizations in WUKO. In the case of a single organization for the nation affiliated with WUKO, the delegate will be the president of the same organization or another person chosen by the same organization. The detailed criteria and unification process is explained in the attached document. Please read it carefully! Financial situation Some organizations have not paid their annual dues. It is not possible to keep within the WUKO organizations that have not contributed to the annual dues. After due verification, we will have to delete from the list all those organizations that have not fulfilled their financial obligations and to be admitted again, they will have to make a further request to the Directing Committee, that will decide only after consultation with the national delegate. The WUKO fees have already been lowered from last year and to come to meet the organizations of certain countries, the Directing Committee has decided to further lower the fees for the nations that have an economy low or lower middle income. The organizations of the following countries will have a reduction of 25% on the first affiliation and 20% on other affiliations: Low-‐‑income economies Afghanistan Gambia Nepal Bangladesh Guinea Niger Benin Guinea-‐‑Bisau Rwanda Burkina Faso Haiti Sierra Leone Burundi Kenya Somalia Cambodia Korea, Dem Rep. Conventions and events WUKO signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the WKC, World Karate Confederation. We report here below as signed by WUKO and WKC: “Given that the World Karate Confederation (WKC) and the World United Karate Organization (WUKO) are two global organizations coordinating and organizing the Federations of every country on every continent with the purpose of promoting traditional and sport karate. Considering the above mentioned, WKC and WUKO agree to cooperate in order to promote the discipline of Karate through common activities, organizing events that give further credibility to the discipline itself. The respective organizations will maintain their sovereignty but will avoid activities that may overlap. So WKC and WUKO for the next four Olympic years, agree as follows: •
WUKO agrees to recognize the organization of the World Championship and of the Continental Championships only to WKC, ceasing to organize its own World and Continental Championships. •
WKC agrees to recognize the organization of the World Cup competitions and Continental Cup competitions only to WUKO, ceasing to organize its own World and Continental Cup competitions. •
WKC and WUKO will promote the organization of joint workshops and meetings, aimed at merging the technical and programmatic lines of the two organizations for a joint development. •
WKC and WUKO undertake to organize and to participate in the technical activities of study and update”.
