Bjorholm, owner of Bjorvala Bonsai Studio, is a professional bonsai
artist based
bas out of Knoxville, TN. Bjorn was first introduced to bonsai at
the age of thirteen and has since helped found the Knoxville Bonsai Society as
well as co-create the annual Tennessee Bonsai Exhibition. After graduating from
the University of Tennessee, Bjorn became an apprentice at Fujikawa Kouka-en
Nursery in Osaka, Japan where he spent several years working under Master Keiichi
Fujikawa. Bjorn currently divides his time teaching bonsai art in the United States
and furthering his studies and business in Japan.

Doyle owns and operates Nature’s Way Nursery in Harrisburg, PA where
he has been
be at the forefront of Amerikan bonsai since the 1970s. Soon after
receiving a B.S. degree in horticulture from Delaware Valley College of Science, Jim
became increasingly drawn to bonsai and travelled to Japan. Although Jim cites
many acclaimed bonsai artists as major influences, he has combined independent
study of bonsai, horticulture and art to define a style all his own. In addition to
overseeing Nature’s Way, Jim still finds time to teach bonsai, write articles for
national publications and consult on Japanese garden design.

Noelanders was born and lives in Belgium. He has studied extensively
in Japan u
under noted Japanese artists, including Kimura. He has been
recognized by John Naka as having a recognizable and unique style. In his own
characteristic way, he knows how to shape the trees, and show them in a new form
to the world. He teaches in Europe, Russia, Canada, and the U.S. Marc is returning
to this year’s Rendezvous by popular demand.

athy Shaner is internationally recognized for her excellence in the art
of bonsai
bonsai. Kathy’s students are taught to find the “Soul of the Tree” before
beginning any major work on a tree. Kathy spent 5 years as an apprentice in
Toyohashi, Japan where she worked for Yasuo Mitsuya, winner of the Minister of
Education and Kokufu awards. Kathy was the first woman and first non-Japanese
citizen to be certified by the Nippon Bonsai Kyodo Kumaii. She maintains and
designs private collections throughout the United States and is the curator of the
Golden State Bonsai Collection.

eiich Fujikawa, a professional bonsai artist from Osaka, is the secondgeneration proprietor of Fujikawa Kouka-en, Central Japan’s premier bonsai
generatio
nursery. In his early 20’s, Mr. Fujikawa began a 5-year apprenticeship under the late
Saburo Kato at Mansei-en nursery, where he developed the skills necessary for the
design, refinement and maintenance of world-class bonsai. While Mr. Fujikawa’s
professional bonsai career began after completing the apprenticeship, his exposure
to the art spans more than 40 years. Since 1990, Mr. Fujikawa’s works have been
featured annually in the Kokufu-ten, Sakufu-ten, and Taikan-ten exhibitions. In
addition, he has taught the art of bonsai in both Japan and Europe.

has a passion for teaching the art of bonsai whenever and
wherever he can. He specializes in tropical plants but he is able to work with
any material. Erik owns and operates Wigert’s Bonsai, in North Ft. Myers, Florida,
a full service bonsai nursery offering classes from beginner to advanced levels.
Erik captured the Best Tropical Bonsai award at the 1st National Bonsai Exhibit in
Rochester, NY. Erik has had trees on display at Epcot Center and Walt Disney World
for the last six years.
