Or that the one special picture you wanted didn’t turn out right at all? Learn how to take the best pictures possible from a working professional photographer. Starting with the basics, you’ll learn the fundamentals of photography, including how to operate your camera on manual setting, how to best use automatic settings, how to stop or blur motion, focusing, controlling depth of field, white balance, using flash, and more. This hands on class will include lecture, demonstration and weekly assignments to be reviewed in class. Class includes a Saturday field trip to the Arboretum. In this workshop, you’ll learn what type of light you need, and how to create it. Improve your photographic skills, using available light creatively. Whether you’re photographing people, landscapes, or other subjects, this class will teach you how to use simple elements and principles to give your images incredible impact. In this class, you will learn how to employ the visual elements of line, value, shape, form, mass, texture, and color, and use traditional drawing media: graphite, charcoal, conté crayon and other drawing media. You will also develop perceptual skills, such as eye-hand coordination. You will learn to recognize and create the light source in an artwork and still-life, and create the illusion of three-dimensional space on a two dimensional surface. You’ll begin to understand and articulate perspectives using drawing techniques learned in class. The word “photography” is derived from the Greek words photos (light) and graphein (to draw). It is a method of recording images by the action of light, or related radiation, on a sensitive material. Sign up early for this new class and learn to create a decorative piece of unique art for your home or office. With a few tools and techniques, you’ll learn how to create pictures and patterns through assembling a variety of stones, china pieces, glass and other small pieces of materials. You’ll complete a simple two dimensional project that includes grouting while learning the various ways to cut and position the pieces in order to enhance the movement of your mosaic artwork. Come have fun learning the fundamentals of this interesting art form as you work on two jewelry pendants or one pendant and two earring pieces. You’ll learn how to cut glass, lay it out in creative patterns, and then fuse them together in a kiln to create your own designs. As part of the instruction, you will work on four projects: two scarves, one triangle shawl, and one cap. Homework will be required in order to complete the projects. According to the US Dept. of Labor the need for Veterinary Assistants is expected to grown faster than average by 2018. Now is the time for you to train for a rewarding career as a Veterinary Assistant! As an assistant, you will help the Veterinarian or the Veterinarian Technician in their daily tasks. You will feed, water, and examine pets for signs of illness, disease, or injury; clean and disinfect cages and work areas, as well as sterilize laboratory and surgical equipment in laboratories, animal hospitals and clinics. This course combines 35 hours of classroom instruction with a 24 hour externship to provide you with a complete learning experience. Get the training you need to start your career in this demanding field. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will help the pharmacist package or mix prescriptions, maintain client records, refer clients to the pharmacists for counseling, assist with inventory control and purchasing, as well as collect payment and coordinate billing. This course meets State certification requirements with 182 hours of classroom instruction and a 120-hour externship to provide you with a complete learning experience. You must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or its equivalent. The class fee covers books, supplies, externship, and course completion certificate. These measurements are used to assist cardiologists and other physicians in diagnosing and treating blood vessel and heart related problems. This 70 hour course is designed to provide instruction in Electrocardiography testing procedures and includes lead placement utilizing 12 lead EKG, use and understanding of EKG grid paper, recognizing normal and abnormal EKG patterns in all 12 leads and plotting EKG axis. Learn accounting procedures and terminology that you can put to use for your own small business or to get an edge on the competition for accounting-related jobs. The course includes: the accounting cycle and complete flow of transactions; accounts, journals, ledgers and closing of the books; an introduction to payroll and handling petty cash. American With Disabilities Act Refunds/Transfers Refunds: Full refunds are issued for classes cancelled by GCC. Student requested refunds must be made in writing 3 business days (Mon-Fri) prior to the start of a class and are assessed a $10 withdrawal fee. There are no refunds after class begins! Trips and Tours: Refunds (minus a 20% processing fee) for cancellations will only be given if the space can be re-sold by the office. Medical Career Programs: Refunds must be requested in writing 3 full business days before the first class meeting. A 10% processing fee will be retained by the college. Transfers: To transfer to another class, requests must be received at least 3 full business days before the first class meeting. There is a $10 transfer fee per class.
