"It is Christmas every time you let God love others through you." -Mother Teresa of Calcutta Thank you! We would like to thank everyone from St. Augustine and Holy Family for your generosity this year, helping the poor and disadvantaged. Through your assistance, many have been helped from being evicted, utility bill assistance, minor car repairs in order to maintain employment, as well as food. Your kindness has been a blessing to many in our neighboring communities, and we would like to thank you and ask God to bless you and your family during this Christmas season and may your New Year be filled with Peace and Joy. Mark your calendars for this night of fun for families from both parishes. Join us for dinner, take a turn in the Bounce House, make a fun craft and play lots of games. Thank you! God Bless you!! Dear Families, We are so grateful for your gift of Christmas care packages to our community. God blessed us richly through your kindness. Most of the new Sisters never met Sr. Paul and Sr. Maureen, but could understand the bond of love that grew over the years of their ministry for all of you in the Richmond / Memphis area. That bond is overwhelmingly evident to us, and brightens our lives and hearts. We pray for a hundred fold return to all our generous extended family we have in you. May God shower you with the riches and gifts that our Savior has come to give to the entire world. Gratefully yours in Christ’s Peace, Sister Marlene Dimmerling, OP Motherhouse Coordinator The Meal, The Man, The Mission At His Feet, Women In Scripture is a powerful drama and experience of Holy Scripture. THIRD ANNUAL MIDWEST CATHOLIC APOLOGETICS CONFERENCE Catholics are constantly being challenged about their faith. Come learn how Catholicism is firmly anchored in Scripture, history, and reason at the Third Annual Midwest Catholic Apologetics Conference on January 16 at Ss. Cyril & Methodius in Sterling Heights. The conference starts with Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Ben Luedtke, followed by talks from four nationally known Catholic apologists: Patrick Madrid, Ken Hensley, Tim Staples, as well as one of our featured speakers at our mission this past June, Steve Ray, with MC Steven Piskorowski. Registration forms are available in the parish office or online at: www.MidwestApologeticsConfere nce.com. You may also register online at https://maciii.eventbrite.com. See large flyer in this week’s bulletin. Save the Date! K of C Italian Dinner Saturday, January 23, 2016 More details to come! Can you sew, knit, crochet or cut squares? You are needed! Holy Family has had a Prayer Blanket Ministry for over 10 years. Their efforts have given many moments of comfort to those in need. We want to thank all of those who have helped over the years. Due to life circumstances, the number of members has declined and we are seeking some new members. The only level of skill is the desire to help others. We create prayer scrappy quilts, afghans, prayer shawls and slippers for those that are struggling with physical and emotional challenges. We meet at Holy Family, on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. It is not mandatory to come each time we meet. If you are interested in joining or you have questions, please call Donna at 810-3923106 or Catherine in Holy Family’s parish office at 810-392-2056. St. Augustine School Page 10 January 3, 2016 Exciting News for St. Augustine School Science Lab! St. Augustine Catholic School Like Us on Facebook The Light Before Christmas ~ Take 2 On Friday, December 18, following the all school Thursday night performance of The Light Before Christmas, the second and third graders traveled to East Harbor Assisted Living Facility in Chesterfield to perform the songs from the program. The residents, as well as the parents, enjoyed the children as they donned their Santa hats and sang the songs from the program including: “Decking the Halls,” “The Light Before Christmas,” and their favorites, “Walk like a Wiseman,” and “Did the Shepherds Wear Shades?”. The children, under the direction of Mrs. Claire Manchik, have been learning and practicing the words and motions to the songs since early October. With so much work going into learning the songs and actions, it seemed a shame to have only one performance. For the past two years, the second and third graders have traveled to East Harbor to spread the Good News of Christmas through song with others. Through your generosity with our “Fund It!” campaign at this year’s auction, we were able to raise $4350 for our school’s science lab! Ms. Savoyard has worked diligently, negotiating and investigating different companies and products to ensure that we get the best possible equipment for our money. After many conversations, we have decided to go with Worthington Direct Company out of Texas. They have been exceedingly generous and have reduced their prices by almost $300 to meet our dollar amount exactly, including shipping fees! With the funds we raised, we are able to purchase six chemical coated lab tables with book compartments, 24 lab stools, and a mobile storage cabinet with a laminate top for storing hazardous materials! The order has been placed and the products should be here in January. We will let you know when the lab is set up and you can come check out our new, updated, and interactive space. Along with the $1400 in new lab equipment we received this Fall through a grant, we will have a fantastic space for kids to learn and increase their aptitude and interest in the field of science. God Bless, Jen Thomson Auction Chair Janet Savoyard Science Teacher Following the performance, the students went out for lunch at Dave’s Pizza Buffet where they were asked by the owner to perform a song for the staff and patrons. Even without background music they sang their favorite “Walk like a Wiseman”. Not only did we spread good cheer to others, but we had a great time doing it! A BIG thank you to Mrs. Claire Manchik for teaching us the songs and to all the parents who chaperoned.
