Each event celebrates the past and the future by bringing together some of the top talent in New York City to perform music, dance, and share their creativity to appreciative and discerning guests who dress-to-the-nines and enjoy bespoke cocktails in classic New York venues such as The Players Club, Edison Ballroom, the Copacabana, Empire Hotel Rooftop, The DL, Rebel, and Galapagos. The tradition of great salons from the past have been reinterpreted for the modern world by pulling from a creative community of friends and colleagues who come together to share, collaborate, and showcase their incredible skills in an atmosphere of oldschool glamour with an up-to-the-minute appreciation of the finest talents in vintage-inflected music and performance that New York City has to offer. Over the years The Salon's events have received press from the Wall Street Journal, Time Out NY, Metromix, Huffington Post, Newsday, MTV, NY, and WBGO Jazz FM, as well as international press and write-ups from the blog-o-sphere. Time Out NY called The Salon one of “The four big event producers on NYC’s booming Jazz Age scene…” (http://www.thesalon.biz) Baby Soda Jazz Band is on the forefront of a new movement loosely known as street jazz; with an eclectic set of influences ranging from 30’s era swing, New Orleans jazz, and southern gospel. The ensemble doesn't desire to recreate the past, rather they bring the concept and joy of the music to the present. Baby Soda is an adaptable and ever changing group made up of New York's finest musicians; featuring trumpet, trombone, clarinet, banjo and the unique one string box bass. (http://www.babysoda.org). Jessy Carolina & The Hot Mess is a New York City based ensemble specializing in American music from the late 1800's-1930's, primarily jazz and blues reminiscent of The Ziegfield Follies, The Great American Song Book, and early medicine shows. The group features Jessy Carolina on vocals and washboard, Jerron "Blind Boy" Paxton on piano, banjo, and vocals, Jordan Hyde on guitar, Jay Sanford on bass, Mario J. Maggio on clarinet and saxophone, an Satoru Ohashi on trumpet and trombone. (http://www.jessycarolinahotmess.com) The Grand St. Stompers, a project of rising young trumpeter Gordon Au, is a swinging-hot traditional jazz band with modernist tendencies - rooted in New Orleans yet flowering in the futurism of New York. The band is a direct product of Gordon's experience living in New Orleans as a fellow of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance, directed by Grammy-winning trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard. With one foot stomping in vintage tradition and the other in modern style, the Stompers delight audiences with everything from Louis Armstrong hits and New Orleans favorites to exciting originals, covers of famous classical themes, and even their own joyous adaptations of Disney, TV, film, and pop music. Their appeal to both young and old – to both swing dancers and sit-down music lovers, has earned them a devoted and diverse following in their hometown of New York City. (http://www.grandststompers.com) The dapper DANDY WELLINGTON has been the Salon’s Master of Ceremonies for the last two years, starting with New Year’s Eve Eve 2009 at the Players Club, and 2010 at Rebel NYC. He sings, he dances and he always looks sharp! (http://dandywellington.com) Burlesque has long been a part of The Salon, and the evening wouldn’t be complete without the talents of some of New York’s loveliest burlesque dancers. We proudly present GAL FRIDAY and LEGS MALONE.
