NJAC ANNOUNCES All-CONFERENCE

USTER, GARRIS, EVANS NAMED TRI·OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE YEAR
UPPER MONTClAIR, NJ - For
the first time in the history of the New Jersey Athletic Conference, three
players, all with outstanding individual efforts during the 1996 football season, have been named the NJAC
Offensive Player's of the Year. Rowan College quarterback, GREG LISTER !Brigantine) won his second , -•.
con~utive Player of the Year award, throwing for 17 touchdowns and l ,711 yards while being
intercepted only twice during the season. He curren~y stands third in the nation with a 173.6 efficiency - ::

EVANS (Newark) finished the season strong as he won two of the last three players of the week awards
and set a new single season rushing record at WPC with l ,290 yards . Evans averaged 6 .08 yards per.
carry during the season, leading a Pioneers rushing offense thgt averaged 269 .2 yards per game, 14th
best in the Division Ill.
Two-time All-American JEFF BARGIEL (West Paterson) anchored a Montclair State defense that
gave up just 15 points per game this season. The senior had 96 tackles, 26 of which were for losses of
118 yards and 14.5 socks. He stands second on MSU all-time sack list with 53.3 and earning first team
ECAC honors this year as well.
Montclair State's defensive back, RON LEWIS !Long Branch), earned defensive Rookie of the Year
honors with 72 tackles, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and eight pass deflections. The freshman
also ran for over 200 yards in five kickoff returns including a 92 yard touchdown return versus SUNY
Brockport. The Offensive Rookie of the Year award was given to wide receiver WILLIAM SPREARMAN
(Camden) of Rowan College, who caught 21 passes for 540 yards and eight touchdowns. Leading the
NJAC with 60 yards receiving per game, spearman was a major component of the Profs conference
leading pass offense that averaged 223.4 yards per game and scored 19 touchdowns.
ERIC HAMILTON earned Coach of the Year honors as he led The College of New Jersey to a 7-2
record and a perfect 5-0 conference mark. The Lions earned a bid as one of the top 16 teams in the nation

and will play in the national championship tournament this weekend.
