Fresh Air - from the Southwater KJAZZ Studio
Owner Paul Rumsey’s views and comments!
Welcome to the KJAZZ Radio UK Newsletter.
What an extraordinary month September has been for KJAZZ Radio UK. We are now up and
running on our new website www.kjazzradiouk.com. My thanks go out to Chris Murton
(http://www.chrismurton.net) who assisted in this mammoth effort. Not only did we move
websites but a 50 min broadcast was put together featuring the great talent that make up
what is now known as the ‘KJAZZ UK Family of Musicians’, a phrase created by Maurice
Johnson. If you have not already listened then I would encourage you to tune in. The link is
on the KJAZZ Radio UK homepage.
Over the next months the look and feel of KJAZZ Radio UK will change as further
development gets underway. This includes:
- Provisioning for musicians to submit songs directly for review
- A Flash player that will run external to the webpage so the user can browse while the
station plays in the background
- Focus on developing the Community side of KJAZZ Radio UK and the launch of our
Podcasting features.
Are we getting noticed? One of the more remarkable events of the month was that Simply
Red is now following us on Twitter. Might have to tap them up to use a selection of their
great tunes which I think would fit in well with our format. Here are the Twitter Follows.
Rocco & Rahj and Maurice Johnson have also been very supportive and their help has been
very much appreciated over the last few weeks.
At time of writing the evenings are drawing in here in the UK. We had an unexpected
‘Indian Summer’ with record breaking temperatures in the 80’s. This meant nice gardening
weather to finish up the season and nice clear nights to do some astronomy, another hobby
of mine. The autumn colours are starting to show… a nice time to cosy up with a warm drink
and listen to the Smooth Grooves from our talented musicians. Links to them can be found
on the new Musicians pages of the website. I would encourage all readers to check this
area out and support these artists if you enjoy their music.
KJAZZ Radio UK listens to hundreds of musicians, considering not only the song but also the
production quality, and this means that the music KJAZZ Radio UK promotes is something that
has met our stringent listening requirements. So let us do the work and enjoy the music.
Being selective in the music we play means a more pleasurable listening experience and will
build a valued listener base.
Please note the November Newsletter will be delivered late due to some other events taking
place in the timeframe the Newsletter is usually compiled.
Enjoy the developments at KJAZZ Radio UK over the next month. Please listen in and let your
friends know about us. Remember to get out and take time to enjoy the autumnal colours. I
have a hunch that they will be great here in the UK this year.
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't let the noise of others'
opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow
your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.
Everything else is secondary." – Steve Jobs - Stanford commencement speech, 2005
I think the world will miss the passion and talent of this extraordinary human being.
Until next time,
Smooth Grooves

KJAZZ Radio UK New Talent
Welcoming the new artists and bands to KJAZZ Radio UK
We welcome three new musicians to the KJAZZ Radio UK family. Holle Thee Maxwell, Aysha
and Sal Di Maggio.

KJAZZ Radio UK Introduces Holle Thee Maxwell
”THEE” BLACK BLONDE BOMBSHELL…There is only one HOLLE THEE MAXWELL!
Holle Thee Maxwell is a true living legend and we’re pleased she has joined KJAZZ Radio UK.
The first thing that struck KJAZZ Radio UK about Holle
was the similarity to Tina Turner. The delivery and
vocals caught our attention and sure enough it turns
out that Holle Thee Maxwell replaced Tina Turner in
The Ike Turner Band. She has worked with or caught
the attention of many A-list celebrities over the
years. Holle can still hold the audience spellbound
with her exceptional stage presence and delivery.
Listening to her music is truly an uplifting experience
as her positive attitude and love of life comes
through in her delivery and vocals. We’re privileged
to have her on board.
Holle recorded singles under the name “Holly
Maxwell” in the 1960s-1970s for the record labels
Constellation, (Curtis Mayfield’s) Custom Records,
Smit-Whit, and Star. Her songs “Only When You’re
Lonely”, “One Thin Dime”, “Never Love Again”,
“Suffer” and “Philly Barracuda” were regional hits
across the US.
Holle Thee sang her first song professionally at the age of five, studied classical voice and
piano at the age of nine and graduated with degrees from both The Chicago Musical
College at Roosevelt University and The Julliard School in New York City.
In addition to singing soul, rock, jazz, country and blues, Holle also sings in French, German
and Italian. From opera to “Thee” blues (as she likes to call it), Holle Thee Maxwell can sing it
all in a way that is distinctly “Holle”.
Holle recorded with jazz great Jimmy Smith.
Holle also worked with The
Temptations, Johnny Taylor, The Spinners,
The Dells, Fred Williamson, Captain and
Tenille, Reynaldo Rey and many
others. Sammy Davis Jr., Redd Foxx,
Sydney Poitier, Isaac Hayes, KoKo Taylor,
Archie More, Sugar Ray Robinson,
Muhammed Ali, Slappy White, Lou Gossett
Jr., King Curtis and others have all been
fans of Holle Thee Maxwell.
Holle is an accomplished songwriter as well
as an incredible singer. Blues superstar
Bobby “Blue” Bland covered one of her
songs on his critically acclaimed album
Come Fly With Me.

KJAZZ Radio UK Introduces Asyha
If you like Sade then you will like Aysha, who
joins KJAZZ Radio UK from the owner’s old
stomping grounds, Southern California.
Recently nominated for the 2009 Los Angeles
Music Awards for Jazz Artist of the Year, Aysha
was born in San Jose, California but raised in
Santa Barbara. Aysha has a solid history as a
performer. For the past eight years she has
been building a strong solo career, and
independently released her debut CD “Love Is
A Rock”. KJAZZ Radio UK is featuring the title
track from her 2nd CD "Stay With Me”. Already
having three tracks of the eight track EP on
major radio, "Stay With Me" has a very strong
forecast. This new EP has some very special
guests including internationally acclaimed
saxophonists Everette Harp and Gerald
Albright.
Before going solo, Aysha performed with the female group Girls In The Mix. “Girls” opened for
such performers as Zapp w/Roger and WAR. Aysha went on to perform with Ronkat and the
Funklectiks, featuring Grammy Award nominated writer, Ron Spearman. Eight years ago
Aysha made the move to strike out on her own to pursue her solo career, performing in
venues throughout the Los Angeles area. Among these local venues Aysha was invited and
performed at the prestigious BB King’s Blues Club.
Aysha has developed a style that will soothe almost any soul. Her velvety voice is sultry and
smooth with a jazzy edge, and with influences such as Sade, Toni Braxton and Chante
Moore, one can only imagine the vibe. Co-writing the majority of her songs, Aysha has been
fortunate to work with some very successful producers and arrangers such as Monty Seward
(Howard Hewett), Donald Tavié (Lakeside, Norman Connors) and Kevin Dorsey (Michael
Jackson), to name a few. One of Aysha’s most current projects included on her CD is a
remake of Atlantic Starr’s “Send For Me” arranged by Donald Tavié.
Aysha has been featured in several Independent Artist magazines, which include U
Magazine at www.kingsharkentertainment.com in the March 2008 issue, BIG The Magazine
at www.bigthemagazine.com in the September 2008 issue and Nine5Four Magazine at
www.nine5four.com in the October 2008 issue.
CD's are available through CD Baby and iTunes and other fine online retailers.
Aysha is rapidly growing a fan base in and outside of the US. Currently in negotiations to be
signed, it’s only a matter of time before Aysha becomes an internationally known name!
KJAZZ Radio UK Introduces Sal Di Maggio
In late September KJAZZ Radio UK became aware of Sal Di Magio who was born in a small
rural town on the south coast of Sicily.
He moved to San Francisco in the early eighties. Sal and his band specialize in
Smooth Jazz Italian style.
We are very pleased to have secured the right to broadcast two of Sals songs for your
listening pleasure, ‘Sax Argent’ & ‘Autonoise’. Sal owns RDM Productions and is Producer
and Director of the Italian Night Variety Show which plays in the Bay area (see following
picture). If you’re lucky enough to live in the San Francisco Bay area then check out his
show. If not then listen to his great Smooth Jazz Italian style here on KJAZZ UK.
To find out more about The Sal Di Maggio Band or Italian Night Variety show go to

Cinema, a new age/jazz
instrumental CD by Sal Di
Maggio is available from
CD Baby.
‘Sax Argent’ & ‘Autonoise’
are taken from this CD.
Latest News from the Family of Musicians
Maurice Johnson
NEW MUSIC FROM MAURICE JOHNSON
Maurice Johnson is currently recording a new album for release in 2012. "PEACE, LOVE &
JAZZ" is the title and here at KJAZZ Radio UK we eagerly look forward to it. Maurice, like the
owner of KJAZZ Radio UK, has gone back to his roots, music, and is producing what he is
passionate about. KJAZZ Radio is in no doubt that this passion will be reflected in this new
work.
While we wait for his anticipated new CD why not check out his current CD ‘Tonight’
available at Amazon & CD Baby. Move over George Benson because Maurice is on his way!

Rocco & Rahj
ANNOUNCING NEW MUSIC CD'S NOW AVAILABLE FROM ROCCO & RAHJ!!
"SMOOTH SUMMER MIX 2011"
"We put together this collection of the
smoothest tunes from our ’Cool Burn’ and
’Beach Life’ CD’s primarily for
contemporary ’smooth jazz radio’ airplay. This is one of those CD’s you just
can’t stop listening to. From tranquil
numbers like ’Gulf Lady’ and ’Java
Breeze’ to the pulsating grooves of
’Kingston Kool’ and ’South Beach
Samba’, this is truly ’Beach Jazz’ at it's
best. Enjoy a musical summer vibe ’year
round’ with this Smooth Summer Mix!"
"COOL BURN - 2011 REMASTERED
VERSION" (OF OUR PREMIER CD)
"We are supremely pleased with this newly remixed and remastered version of "Cool Burn".
The pristine audio clarity and startling dynamics of this 'super hot' CD breathes new life into all
10 of the original songs, making them sound better than ever!"
Rocco & Rahj’s music is perfect to chill out to. KJazz Radio likes ‘Java Breeze’ and ‘Beach
Life’ and we could go on but safe to say that taking any of the Kings of Beach jazz music for
a spin will not disappoint. Their music is available at Amazon and through their own website
www.roccoandrahj.com
Bickley Rivera
Bickley has contacted KJAZZ Radio UK to let us know she is working on a new album. Bickley
is in the studio working with producer Dan O'Brien, who has worked with outstanding
musicians such as Al Dimeola, Gumbi Ortiz, David Weckl, Rachel Z, just to name a few. No
projected release date, as some songs are still in the composition development stage. One
thing I can reveal, however, is that there will be a few reggae songs included on this
upcoming album, as well as cross-over nu-jazz and chill styles.
KJAZZ Radio UK really likes ‘Pan Funk’. For English smooth jazz fans her music feels similar to
Shakatak but with the unique Carribean rhythm of steelpan blended in. The concept of
adding steelpan drums into a Nu-Jazz song we think really works and Pan Funk is a fine
example of that. Why not check out Bickley’s CD ‘Chillin’ After Five’ which can be
purchased online at CD Baby and amazon.com. You can also order it directly from Bickley
on her website www.bickleyrivera.com. You can hear music from the album on the site. And
you can also check Bickley out on MySpace Music at www.myspace.com/bickleyrivera
In Development
New Station Video Publicity Logo - Chris Murton
As the owner Paul Rumsey mentioned, there are a lot of exciting new features in
development that will improve the KJAZZ Radio UK experience for all. Key themes focus
around the following:
Improving the Musician experience
KJAZZ Radio UK spends many hours reviewing music sites for potential talent to promote. This
will be assisted in the future by the website, allowing musicians to submit content directly for
review and possible inclusion. There are a lot of considerations that go into this project - the
legal aspects of handling the contract between KJAZZ Radio UK and the artist, how the data
is stored, the approval and notification process and the destruction of rejected material. The
benefit will be a quicker way to bring the music to the listener and promote the musician.
Community development of KJAZZ Radio UK
With the recent site move and initial bedding in process underway there is still the
Community side to develop. Fans of KJAZZ Radio UK may have noticed the absence of the
Community section from the new site. We have not forgotten this key aspect to KJAZZ Radio
UK but our energies have focused on the move, broadcasting and the musicians.
However soon we will be looking at the Community side and as mentioned before this will
heavily utilize Podcasting in its content and will evolve into an online magazine type format.
With the BBC announcing cuts potentially to local broadcasting, KJAZZ UK may be well
positioned to capture some of this market.
Commercial Development
We have to pay the bills but KJAZZ has really so far been a labour of love, with support from
silent heroes in the background who have given tips, time and advice. KJAZZ is very much in
the development phase but has already made some extraordinary achievements from an
idea in July 2011 to the development of a website that has a fledgling broadcast stream by
end of September. We have not had the time to focus on this area and expenses have
already been incurred, from a hosting solution to equipment, funded by the owner.
The revenue stream is key to the success of any business, however without a model in place,
ie. the website, it is equally hard to sell KJAZZ Radio UK as an idea to investors, advertisers etc.
KJAZZ Radio UK still has much work to do before we can sell the concept.
There are a number of revenue streams planned around KJAZZ Radio UK and in time these
will be developed. All remain company confidential at this time but will eventually underpin
the financial support of the station.
This leads us nicely on to the next section, Support Us.
Support US
We have developed a few ways for listeners to help KJAZZ Radio UK. Listeners can support us
on our ‘Shop’ page which has a number of stores (pages) and links that tie in with our
affiliate Amazon program. Can’t find what you want in our Shop? Then you can bypass this
and go to our ‘Support’ page and click on an affiliate there. Our affiliate program is limited
but again being developed. Amazon and CD Baby are our initial affiliate programs but like
all else this will develop as the site matures over the next months.
So if you shop online then please go through our links to affiliates to help support us. This is our
primary revenue source and, as another famous UK company says, ‘Every little helps’.
Beyond the UK shores? The ‘Support Us’ page features access portals for all over the world to
Amazon. Additionally KJAZZ Radio UK accepts donations through PayPal.
So tell your friends about our ‘Shop’ and the ‘Support Us’ page and help us bring more good
music and information to you.
