I had no previous banking experience. I am now a Senior Customer Service Representative/Consumer Lender. I started taking CFT classes in 2002 and in 2005 I received a Supervisor Certificate and in June of 2012, I received the Bank Operations Diploma. CFT classes have helped me gain confidence and build a strong foundation that has helped me in my current position as a Branch Manager and will in any future positions I may hold. I am looking forward to taking more classes. Although life is busy and in person classes may be hard to fit in, CFT offers online classes and assisted self study classes that allow you to work at your own pace. The instructors are always friendly and helpful. Peoples Trust Company has been very supportive and has played a big part in making this possible for me. I would recommend taking CFT classes to anyone. The knowledge gained is rewarding and worth the effort. “CFT classes have helped me gain confidence and build a strong foundation that has helped me in my current position as Branch Manager and will in any future positions I may hold.” Page 11 SPOTLIGHT ON SUCCESS In Her Own Words: Jodi Browning Kennebunk Savings Bank I started my banking career when I was completing my Master’s Degree in Guidance Counseling at Northeastern. At the time, I worked for a large corporate bank as a part time teller. Unfortunately, the office I was working at closed and a friend of mine recommended Kennebunk Savings and I have been working there ever since. I just celebrated my five year anniversary with Kennebunk Savings. I started as a Customer Service Assistant and quickly moved to a Sales and Service Representative, then an Assistant Branch Manager and now I am the Training Coordinator for the bank. I got involved with CFTEA when I was recommended for our specialized CFTEA Master Teller program, which included becoming a Certified Teller. Since completing the Master Teller program in 2011 I have gone on to complete many certificates. Just recently, I completed my Introduction to Lending Certificate and my Supervisor Certificate. In the future I am looking to complete the new Developing Leaders Certificate. In addition to taking classes, I am also a CFTEA instructor and a CFTEA Council Member. As a CFTEA instructor I have taught a wide array of courses, including Teller Customer Relations, Time Management, and Bank Security. One of my favorite courses to teach is Stress Management, where I have the students make homemade stress balls to take home with them. As a Council Member, I am involved in more of what CFTEA does from a business standpoint. We have meetings about once a quarter where we talk about enrollments, financials and are involved in the future development of the company. We have the meetings usually via conference call and it is a great way to talk to people from different banks and organizations that have a common goal of promoting financial education. CFTEA has been very beneficial to me in my roles on the front lines and in my new role as a trainer. I have taken many classes in which I have collaborated with people from different departments or different banks to gain a more well-rounded perspective. One of the classes that helped me immensely is when I took The Importance of Loan Operations and there happened to be students who were working in lending support staff roles taking the course. It was nice to gain their prospective from the servicing and underwriting side of lending. I felt like I became a better originator because I knew what they were looking for. I am so thankful that I am a part of Kennebunk Savings and CFTEA because they are both organizations that take the time to encourage their people to become more educated and grow. I would highly recommend any CFTEA course to anybody who is willing to learn more about their job or banking as a whole. “I am so thankful that I am a part of Kennebunk Savings and CFTEA because they are both organizations that take the time to encourage their people to become more educated and grow.” Page 12 SPOTLIGHT ON SUCCESS I started my career in banking in May of 2009 at Claremont Savings Bank. I had just finished my first year of college in the field of Music Education, and I was looking to go in a new direction. I was hired at Claremont Savings Bank as a Summer Teller, and in the fall of that same year, I was hired as a full time teller. From the moment that I became a full time teller, I was encouraged by Claremont Savings Bank and my co-workers to start taking classes through CFT. In His Own Words: Zachary Haines Claremont Savings Bank As I progressed through some of the CFT classes, I was promoted to Pro-Teller, and, shortly after that, I was promoted to Head Teller/Customer Service Representative. After almost a year, I transferred to the Call Center as a Customer Care Specialist. Shortly after transferring, I completed the Certified Teller Certificate, but I didn’t want my education to end there. I completed the Supervisor Certificate program, as well as finished the courses needed for my General Banking and Bank Operations Diploma. During that time, I became the Assistant Manager in Customer Care. After becoming the Assistant Manager, I had the honor of attending the Northern New England School of Banking in the fall of 2013. While taking the Supervisor Certificate program, my instructor, Cynthia Stuart approached me with the idea of joining CFT as an instructor. Because I have always had a passion for teaching, I was immediately interested in helping to educate bankers through the wonderful classes offered through CFT, and, with the support of both Claremont Savings Bank and CFT, I became an instructor. Taking classes through CFT opened my eyes to the world of banking. I could immediately see the dedication of the banks that allowed their employees to further their career and education through the courses they offered. As a student, I understood that I was given an amazing opportunity to learn and grow. CFT made my experience even better by offering many courses locally or online at convenient times, while offering a high level of education, taught by those that have worked or continue to work in the field of banking, giving students the chance to learn from real bankers with the most experience. In the coming years, I look forward to teaching through CFT while progressing in my career at Claremont Savings Bank. I owe a huge thank you to both Claremont Savings Bank for wonderful career opportunities as well as CFT for not only a great education, but the opportunity for me to educate others. Page 13 “As a student, I understood that I was given an amazing opportunity to learn and grow.
